  • I'm so sorry about your dog. I'm a "dog parent", so I fully understand how heartbreaking losing them is. They are never with us long enough!
  • Wow, that's a terrible accident. Glad you're still around! I love pho too, but try to focus on eating the broth and meat and only a pitiful bite or two of the noodles at the end.
  • Think of it this way, the low loss or stall in Week 3 is something most of us experience (I didn't lose an ounce for 9 days in my third week!), so this might just be a run of the mill Week 3 slow down, though 2.4 pounds is pretty good!
  • I had very infrequent heartburn pre-surgery - never when I wasn't heavy and usually when I over did it on sugar or had a lot of tomato based food. Maybe one or two days every month or two. My surgeon didn't think that would be a problem. He also fixed a hiatal hernia during my surgery. I haven't had any problems since…
  • Exercise has little impact on weight loss. You may have just hit a stall, but @jcavanna2 gives good advice.

  • Not much! Chunkier food and real food feel very different.
  • I found this online from John's Hopkins, which is a trustworthy source of information: http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/johns_hopkins_bayview/_docs/medical_services/bariatrics/nutrition_sleeve_gastrectomy.pdf According to them, gummy vitamins do not contain all the vitamins and minerals a VSG patient needs. And the hard part…
  • Welcome to the other side!
  • Do research the band thoroughly before you get one. While some are happy with theirs, many have had to have them removed due to slippage or eroding holes into the stomach. And many get them revised to a sleeve or bypass. My surgeon won't do them anymore.
  • I know a few people who have had a lot of help from therapy plus the medication Vyvanse, which is prescribed for Binge Eating Disorder. Best of luck to you!
  • @Aztec4Life Here is the cite: Moizé V, Andreu A, Flores L, et al. Long-term dietary intake and nutritional deficiencies following sleeve gastrectomy or roux-en-y gastric bypass in a Mediterranean population. J Acad Nutr Diet. 2013;113(3):400-410. This is the article that referenced it as well as other studies showing…

  • Studies have shown that vitamin and mineral deficiencies in VSG people are similar to what is seen in gastric bypass patients at 5 years, probably because VSG folks think they are exempt from needing to take vitamins. While we don't have changes to our intestines, we can easily be deficient in iron, folate, B12, and D.…

  • The urologist I saw after my kidney stone a few weeks ago said at least 80oz a day (but everything caffeinated or not counts). So much different advice! But I'm going to listen to the one that can help me avoid the excruciating hell that is another kidney stone :-) I use an app on my phone called iHydrate. It reminds you…
  • I'd never been in the hospital when I had my surgery. The not knowing is nerve wracking, but you'll do fine! My blood pressure before surgery was 144/86. After it was 106/70! I was just so nervous beforehand, but it was not a bad experience at all.
  • I started going gray really early and have been coloring it since college - 25 years. At this point I get it done every 2.5 weeks because it grows so fast... nuts I know. But at my last appointment, it hadn't really grown at all. It must be the surgery/weight loss (I,m 8 weeks out today). I've also noticed that my scalp…
  • I wrote my reply above about 3.5 weeks ago. Things keep getting easier. No regrets.
  • Don't pack a lot. It didn't hurt nearly as much as I thought it would. (But the IV hurt and the vein in my hand still does more than 6 weeks later) Work getting in liquids afterwards like it's your only job. Being dehydrated feels terrible and it's hard to catch up once you're there. Walk lots. Pain meds cause…
  • Fantastic!
  • Woohoo!

  • @OfficiallySexyVal So nice to meet another unicorn! I have just one nodule so I take Methimazole. It sounds like so early in the process they need to up your meds until you feel right? From what I understand if can be a challenge to get your dosage upped if you're in the normal range even if you don't feel great.
  • I was just whining about this! I had my sleeve on 2/22. I had the week 3 stall that lasted 9 days and the scale moved .4 pounds today after 8 days at the same weight. I think it may just be my pattern and I need to not let it frustrate me. You're a month ahead of me, but I don't think I could get to 1200 calories. I'm…
  • I'm a rare unicorn - the near mythical fat hyperthyroid person. I take meds to suppress my thyroid (my diagnosis and subsequent treatment made my weight skyrocket). I had surgery 6 weeks ago and my TSH has dropped like a stone since then after being stable for a few years. I see my endo Thursday and she'll likely up my…
  • For me, two weeks if I recall?
  • I was to try to get 3 shakes from my first day home. I was able to by day 3. Give it time and it's comforting to remember they count as liquid ozs!
  • There is a woman in my surgeon's support group who lost 60 pre-surgery and 50 post-surgery to get to her goal. She seems very pleased to have had it.
  • Woohoo!
  • When you're doing everything right, you can't help but win the scale staring contest. It's just a matter of time before it blinks!

  • I'm 4 weeks out today and it is hard at the beginning. Recovery was pretty easy, but having surgery is still slightly overwhelming. Then nearly 3 weeks of just clear liquids and protein shakes was crazy making. Now I'm eating soft foods which is a huge improvement, but portions are so small it's kind of a bummer versus…
  • It looks a little like your small stall in February, in which case a woosh is coming!

  • So weird to be eating again! It's gone well thus far. It's bizarre for someone who could easily eat a large pizza alone and not be full pre-surgery to have to put 3 oz of tuna salad back in the fridge because I couldn't finish it. New beginnings...
