  • Had that yesterday! There was chocolate cheesecake at work. Said no all day, until last hour of job & I gave in... Had one tiny slice which turned out to be 450!!! Calories. Then came the hunger. And ice cream , And French fries , And grilled cheese sandwiches- 1700cal over for day! A technique which used to work for me…
  • Welcome to 44 :) :) I turned 44 in November & finding its a tough age for weight loss. Started the 40's at my physical peak. Super strong & looking good. Then I put on 30lbs over last 3 years... Mostly because every time I try to get back to being active like I used to be, something else on my body starts to hurt. And ice…
  • Nurse. Usually log 5 to 6 miles in 8 hour shift. Lots of bending, lifting, pushing. CPR is pretty strenuous- glad that's not a daily occurrence.
  • Hopefully your surgery will be laparoscopic with no complications. 3-4 tiny incisions glued shut. No stitches! But please do be careful not to over do it the first couple weeks. Also, figuring out what to eat can be challenging for a few months. Best of luck!
  • Protein fat carbs... And alcohol. The fourth macro
  • I stopped at the grocery store on my way home from gall bladder surgery (done in less than 5 hours from check-in to leaving at a surgery center) , then vacuumed the house same day. Moving wasn't an issue, but be careful with lifting too much weight. First day back at work I had to pick a patient up of the floor. Was not a…
  • Wasn't tracking because wasn't purposefully dieting. But being able to add fats, sugars, starches back into regular meals- that certainly increased my daily caloric intake. A couple yogurt whey smoothies during the day, then some poached chicken breast & a bowl of plain lettuce for dinner can't add up to many calories.…
  • I did low carb low fat by accident. Couldn't process fat after gallbladder surgery, probably wasn't getting more than 10gm/day. Didn't care for sugary or starchy food either. Wasn't tracking calories or macros as I wasn't trying to lose weight. After 2 months of fat free Greek yogurt, whey protein isolate, egg whites, lean…
  • My day: Started with coworker bringing me Starbucks hot chocolate :) Herbal tea, marcona almonds and an apple Granola bar with flax seeds all up in it One stick of a kit kat- shared the rest Water Another cup of hot chocolate! Water 2 slices of leftover vegetable deep dish 9 grain pizza- no cheese Water Berries & yogurt…
  • My feelings are hurt because you don't like the foods I like. *sigh* First World Problems
  • Used to love ham & jelly sandwiches. Ate them almost every day. Cucumber & jalapeño omelettes Green olives in mashed potatoes Pumpkin & eggplant with mustard & curry spice Cole slaw on saltines with sugar sprinkled on top Hot sauce on yogurt
  • I don't mind losing in the chestological area if everything else slims down too! Lean arms & legs, pert butt and nipped waist are worth the cost of boobage:)
  • Would love to give & get motivation! Goal lose 25lb, increase strength/endurance Max weight 180lb ~5 years ago, dieted & worked out 120lb~ 3 years ago. Had a very difficult past year physically & emotionally and now back up to 150. None of my clothes fit :( Vegetarian 1200cal/day, seriously need to increase essential amino…
  • In a blender with artichoke hearts, garlic & red chili flakes. Makes a fine dip for veg or crackers. Or blended with salsa verde as a dip for tortilla chips or topping for enchiladas.
  • Just don't like how non-plant foods taste, smell, and sit in my gut. Progressed from omnivore to vegan incrementally. But knew I needed more than carbs so added back in some cheese & yogurt as that's least objectionable to me. Starting to use whey protein a bit too. Don't like eggs anymore, but can tolerate if hidden in…
  • This might be a factor. Stopped eating animals about a year ago. Used to love em but now it tastes gross. My protein grams went from 100+ per day to maybe 30.
  • Grrrr- good advice is hard to follow! Thanks everybody :) Time to act like an adult.
  • BMI is just a generic number. It doesn't account for body shape or musculature. Someone with a delicate bone structure & undeveloped muscles would carry much more fat % at the same BMI as someone large boned and athletic. Also, different starting weights lead to different perspectives. If you've always been thin, 130lbs…
  • Seriously, it's worth the $$ to get a really good water filtration system on your sink and some glass or stainless steel water bottles. Fresh tasting water is the best drink! I try to only have filtered tap water either hot or cold- or caffeine free organic herbal teas made with above water (no sugar or sweeteners). Check…
  • Please don't chase a weight goal just to end up all skin & bones with no muscles and messed up hormones. Get a body comp scale so you can track fat% and muscle mass instead of pounds. I'm 5'8" with a big frame and have ranged from 115-180. Generally 120s-130s works for me, but not because of a number on a scale. It's…
  • I will never track food eaten while having a truly lovely time. Some days are meant to be enjoyed not analyzed.
  • Spot on advice. Instead of following a recipe which almost always involves a trip to the store for missing ingredients, find a few favorite cooking techniques like stir fry or omelette that can be applied to whatever you have on hand. I like to make curry for supper. Pretty much any assortment of veg will do- sautéed then…
  • Cook from scratch: A big batch of dried lentils or beans is only about 17cents a serving Old fashioned oats are about 14 cents a serving Rice is about 8 cents a serving Drink water instead of buying soda, coffee, juices Limit processed foods, convenience foods, snack foods, junk foods, fast foods. Shop bakery outlets if…
  • Yes the after dinner grazing would kill my daily goals! Now I've set up my meals on mfp as "breakfast, lunch, dinner, and supper" (plus a snack). Basically I divide the majority of my calories over 4 meals instead of 3. Dinner is eaten right when I get home from work, then supper about 3 hours later. Psychologically, it…
  • My adult weight has fluctuated between 120lb to 180lb over the last 25 years (size 2-14). The gains are generally associated with physical injury (impedes my ability to exercise) and/or emotional stress&sadness (comfort eating) or genuine laziness (I love my bed!). A few times, illness has caused unintentional drastic…
  • Easy- leftovers from last night's plant based dinner. Make extra portions of dinner and you'll never have to eat out for lunch.
  • I got tired of milk tasting off before we finished the carton. We don't eat dry cereal or drink milk by the glass. I prefer almond or coconut milk in most recipes for the taste and they last longer than animal milk.
  • Processed foods aren't necessarily unhealthy, but it's hard to know what you're really getting with it. Yes I eat processed foods because they're easy & yummy, but I'm trying to make smarter choices. Ideally life would be like the garden of Eden where everything was good for eating- except you know, maybe that one tree…
  • We had a faucet filter forever, but just last week put in a 3 stage purification system under the sink. It taps into the cold water supply and has its own faucet which we installed where the soap dispenser hole is in the sink. Great tasting water, way better than the old pur filter. It was only $150 at Costco for system &…
  • I sometimes use organic peanut butter powder from Costco (which contains sugar and salt same as PB2 but is organic) Both PB2 & Costco's version are most certainly processed unnatural food by-product (the leftovers from extracting oil from peanuts) It's unclear exactly what all is used in the extraction process as FDA…
