  • You are definitely way too low on your kalories! I weigh 142lbs and live quite comfortably on 1200cals a day and sometimes eat under, but I started higher and it took me a little while to figure out how to avoid hunger. - Lots of protein and very strict counting. I also need to exercise, otherwise dinner just looks too…
  • Hi Everyone, sorry, I didn't see your responses earlier. Thanks for your feedback! I'm glad I'm not the only one, who got the impression something's different. I'm in my healthy BMI range and just want to lose 6 kilos to fit back into my pants. I'm on 1200cal/5021kj, sedentary lifestyle, but I am probably more active than…
  • So much good advice here! Hyperglycemia is definitely one to check. I recently read something really helpful: resorting to food when anxious is a lear t behavior, a habit. Rather than just denying yourself the relief of food, replace eating with a different habit that also brings relief. The obvious one is exercise…
  • Yay to you! :)
  • Well, he was right. It's not a noun. But I think what he means is that this "tone" word is just thrown around to distract people from what they're actually doing: Losing body fat and gaining muscle. [/quote] So, yes, toned is the past participle of to tone and is used as an adjective. Tone is the noun. However, tone has a…
  • No free weights. The machines offer more resistance the harder you push, so you cannot really outgrow them. I work as hard as I can. The program records your progress and ups the expected intensity every so often. However, I suspect it's the 30 seconds that are just too short to do more than ten reps at a time.
  • Thanks guys, very helpful! Upon consideration - most of the women there are "raw beginners" and rather out of shape. I am not superwoman, but have a healthy BMI, I can run 5km, cycle 26km return to work without effort and lift my suitcase (just don't ask for push-ups). I like the sense of community at Curves (they are…
  • Thanks guys! Curves is alive & kicking in Australia :-) it's a women-only gym with a circuit program designed to train every muscle group. You work each hydraulic machine for 30 seconds (10-14 reps), then move on. You do the circuit twice with mat exercises in between for cardio, but I often do abs (and do get sore from…
  • Thanks guys, I am confused now. By toned, I mean more defined muscles, which I assume means less fat (so you can see them) and more muscle. I always thought sore muscles mean that you have tiny tears in your muscles, which rebuild with increased muscle fibre/volume, i.e. you grow stronger if you are sore?
  • Definitely interested! Would like to join.
  • Carrots. Sounds crazy, I know, but it the crunching reliefs the tension.
  • Hey, back here after putting on 3kg (not that much, I know), but want to catch it early! Summer is coming Australia, so I want to meet xmas in my best shape - ideally I want to lose the last 5kg! Please add me! :-)
  • Excellent alternative challenge. Mine will be to set myself the goal of not taking the lift at work. I work on level 5 and have been slack recently. A good reminder to get back to my old discipline! Thanks :-)
  • Anxiety. Eating apparently calms me down. I guess I feel more solid on the inside. I've recently tried to identify the feelings I have whenever I feel the urge to eat when not hungry. It always seems to come down to some sort of low-level insecurity. Still doesn't mean, I always get around it, but it helps to take a few…
  • Am taking a few days off and will get the backyard into shape. Complete at least one woodworking project.
  • Name: Shroodle Age: 40 Height: 168cm Start weight: 63kg Goal weight: 58kg. Start Date 26/10 Got down to 61kg a little while ago, but the last 3kgs just seemed too hard to lose. Now, summer is coming in Oz & I'm ready to get back to 61kg - and beyond. Xmas might throw a spanner in the works, but I want to meet it in the…
  • Hi everyone, I've just turned 40 & have been ogling this group for a while. The big goal was to greet 40 at the weight I had when I was 30. I didn't quite get there. Hit a stubborn plateau at the last 3kg and didn't push hard enough. Now I have for the first time ever established a proper exercise routine, am watching cals…
  • I find it really hard to stay on 1200 without eating some exercise back. It just gets too depressing to be constantly watching every carrot. So I use exercise as a bonus and try to eat back half maximum. Sometimes I can allow myself a splurge and can make it up over the next day or two. It seems like win/win to me: I have…
  • If you feel like your body is fighting you, it probably is. If you're cramping, your diet is likely not nutricious enough. Just to be on the safe side, I would see a doctor and get a blood test and take supplements. Hang in there - this sounds like a big bump on the road to future (not former) glory! Good luck :-)
  • I hear you! Struggling with the same issue. Have recently joined a gym and am trying to focus on my progress there. Also getting fitter when cycling. Small consolation for those incredibly stubborn last few kilos.

  • I'm no scientist, but I would advocate for a balanced diet that will be nutricious and sustainable in the long run.
  • Hey, I used to have similar issues: just got into cycling, or running for 3 weeks, and - bam - I would get a nasty cold, tonsillitis etc. It was so frustrating. It took me a while to realise that i need to curb my enthusiasm and build it up slowly. I now cycle to work and back (ca. 24km) 2-3 times a week and go to the gym…
  • Today I am grateful for having resisted the evening glass of wine.
  • I hear your pain! I started off so easily: 6kg in 8 weeks. Yay! Without much exercise too. Now, I am stuck 3kg away from my goal weight. Even though I subside on 1200cals & have become a good exerciser and I keep logging. It's frustrating. But I agree with the others: holding out, getting fitter & healthier all count for…
  • Packing my lunch. And ... logging, logging, logging ...
  • I knew I was losing weight when fastening my belt and suddenly realized I had gone up a knotch - and they are really far apart. :-) I knew I was getting fitter when cycling up the dreaded hill to work and suddenly my butt muscles kicked in - oh, the pride!
  • Hey, dont give up! :-) and don't get bogged down by feeling you're being told off. People here are honestly trying to help although it sometimes doesn't sound that way. Be patient with yourself, establish good routines and trust your body to catch up - I've been stuck on a bloody annoying plateau for some maddening 8 weeks…
  • I have a slipped disk and couldn't run for a long time either. You can definitely lose weight without exercise but the thing that helped me most was Pilates and swimming to build up core strength and stretch your spine. Thinking about helping your back instead of seeing it as a limitation has really shifted my perspective.…
  • Hey, this thread is a real inspiration! Good people all fighting the same things. So, just for today no post work stress relief bingeing! Been doing my exercise this week, but fell prey to the wine & cheese monster a few times and undid all my hard work. So frustrating. So for today - just today - no late night snacking!…
