There are many studies which show that over-the-counter diet supplements do not work and may, in fact, have serious health risks for some people. They main reason people experience results is because they often take supplements in addition to making positive life changes – diet and exercise. Save your money – move more,…

Lots of great comments here that I agree with. Genetics and what/how much you eat are the biggest factors in what you will look like, I believe. My profile photo is pretty much what I look like right now… I lift heavy 4 times per week and do some running, walking and high-intensity interval cardio. My calories are not very…

1/3 cup dry 3-5 minute oats, cinnamon, 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder, 1 tablespoon walnuts, boiling water. I might up the oats to a half cup if I have a big workout day.

I am also 5'3" and currently 119lbs. I'm very happy with my weight / look right now, but have to eat very carefully to be this size. I am also working out - lifting heavy weights and doing HITT-style cardio 6 days a week. I am fairly muscular and 50 years old. In my profile photo I am about 115lbs. Everyone wears their…

When I started losing weight two years ago I did really well with a plan called The Body Reset by Harley Pasternak. The book provides recipes for well-balanced meal replacement smoothies plus walking and mild strength exercises. It is a progression to three smoothies a day, for a short time, with maintenance based on one…

Me too! I was all over these for a long time, now it's just not a good item for me. Funny, my brand of protein powder suddenly started to bother me too. Had to switch it up. I also like the Quest bars and tried a Fit Joy bar that was pretty good.

I've set my tracker at 1200, but do eat some calories back when I exercise. I lift heavy weights 3x a week and then do some running and walking – maybe 2-3 sessions of 30 to 60 minutes right now. I currently weigh 122lbs, but was 114lbs in my profile photo, one week before a figure competition. I am 5'3" and age 49. I am…

I work out with a trainer for lifting most of the time. I also track everything on MFP and eat at a deficit. From time to time, I have used routines from bodybuilding.com because I like that there are photos and videos to help me understand the correct movement – I am not an experienced lifter. Your diet is what will make…

I so agree with all who say a flat stomach and visible abdominal muscles are directly related to body fat. Genetics play a big part, too. In my profile photo, I am one week away from a figure competition and was very lean. Right now, with just 8 extra pounds, the muscle does not show nearly as much.

I like Quest bars, but I love Kombat Crunch bars! The Birthdate Cake and Chocolate Coconut ones are my favourite. I've never heated them up, though.

Hi Keelin – Have you competed yet? I'm a bit late to this post! I competed in my first figure show this year and will do two more next spring as I qualified for higher level competition. I was very successful with the diet, but need to expand my choice of recipes for next time as I was getting pretty bored with the same…

Oh, I'm 49 years old :)

5' 2" and currently 118lbs. I started at 143lbs about a year ago, and am very happy with where I am at. My profile photo is from May 7th this year and I was 114lbs (at my first Figure competition). Diet and strength training are the key!

I agree, the main reason is to be able to add supplements such as protein powder which will prolong the fullness factor of the smoothie meal. Smoothies are convenient, easy to make, and easy to keep the ingredients on hand.

I did a photo shoot a few weeks ago but with a 'fitness' theme. We shot indoors at the gym, but did get hair and makeup done (appropriate to the style of the shoot). It was very confidence boosting! The one piece of advice I have is that if it feels awkward, it will probably look awkward :) Here are a couple of 'proofs'…

49 years young and just started lifting in the last 6 months. I still enjoy running a bit (30-40 minutes), but strength training has been the turning point in my weight loss plan. My profile pic is from May 7th this year (3 weeks ago) and is from my first Figure competition where I placed 2nd!

More than a year after my original post, I wanted to write an update! I have lost 25+ pounds and competed in a Figure competition where I placed 2nd. On the day of the competition I was down 30lbs, but have since normalized back up a few. I could not lose the weight through running alone – it just was not working for me.…

It took me a whole year to lose 25lbs, and then I lost another 5lbs for a Figure competition. I'm 49 years old and only 5'3". I started at 143lbs, so I wasn't wildly overweight to begin with. My average daily calories are around 1400, with about 35-40% protein and have rarely felt hungry. I switched from doing only…

My experience is that as soon as you start eating in the morning, you are hungry. So, by delaying eating until late morning, after a 14 to 16 hour fast, you have narrowed the window of active eating time, and should feel less cravings. You still have to watch what you eat during your 'eating hours' – it's not a free pass…

Yup. I describe weight loss as being like a ping pong ball bouncing its way down a set of hardwood stairs. My graph looks just like nutmegoreo's! You're doing great maplesyrup10!

Similar story for me. I've reduced the sugar, even cutting out fruit, and added healthy fats and lots of protein. I used to do a lot of cardiovascular exercise ( I've done 5 Ironman triathlons), but could not lose weight from just running anymore. I totally switched my exercise program to Crossfit and weight lifting and…

Female, 5'3", 48 years old Start weight: 143 lbs Current weight: 120 lbs Goal weight: 115 lbs I have been pretty happy with my 'shape' since hitting 122lbs but am training for a figure competition, so am aiming for a low body fat level and lots of muscle

I think michelle172415 has some good points. Although I do believe in calorie in - calories out, adjusting macros can make a difference. I would also suggest keeping an eye on your grams of sugar, even from fruit. Perhaps cut any alcohol you may be enjoying. Finally, stress plays a role in weight loss and if that is a…

For a couple of years I had been trying to lose 20lbs – very unsuccessfully. My past strategies have been to try any drastic "diet" and run obsessive distances very frequently. Eight months ago I started weighing and tracking all of my food with MFP, reduced my running and joined Crossfit. I was able to determine that for…

Hello! I'm Jennifer, 48 years old 5'3" Currently 133lbs Goal is approximately 124lbs I carry a good amount of muscle and am approximately 27% body fat right now. I run 3 times per week, and do Crossfit 3 or 4 times per week. I'd like to be lean enough to have my ab muscles show like they did when I was younger!
-
Crossfit is an excellent choice for your goals. I started three months ago and I am really seeing the difference in my body. I think it has jump-started my weight-loss as I was very cardio-focused before. I also run and mountain bike, and am a former triathlete, so I fully support those activities, too as outside options.…

I'm 5'3" and started at 143lbs. I think I lost about 2lbs in the first three weeks. I've been losing about 0.75lbs per week, on average.

I am 5'3" and am aiming for 125ish. I am 48 years old and consider myself to be active - at least an hour a day of Crossfit or running, so I do carry some muscle. I feel pretty good right now at 131.5, but that's about the top of my comfort zone. I have also been 117lbs, but was training 24 to 30 hours per week for Iron…
