I do feel guilty standing around resting between sets. But it works, I'm getting stronger! So who cares what they say.

I'm new here. How does this thread work? Here's what I lifted on Saturday. Squat: 110lbs 5x5 (This is an increase after several weeks stalled. Finally feel like my form is improving! Mostly stayed with weight on my heels and didn't do the "stripper" move.) Bench: 95lbs 5x5 Row: 75lbs 5x5 (I have been doing cable rows…

The video seems to have helped! And placing the bar higher so I'm not bending over as much.

Thanks awkwardsoul! I googled the problem before and thought that was a funny name for the problem. That guy is funny. I think I want to find a woman trainer, but maybe a crazy guy like that would be good too. Most people lifting at the gym seem too serious and clean cut for me. I need to find some weirdos. LOL. I'm just…

Thanks for the replies! True, maybe the variations in my food logging/exercise tracking aren't that much. I had been doing Stronglifts 5x5 and now I'm back to it. Harlequin - True it is possible to fill up on lots of low calorie vegetables. I have done "raw foods" before, but I find that eating tons of low calorie foods to…

Thanks Haybales! You maybe right. I didn't do a full test to see what my TDEE really is. I'm not sure how accurately I can do that since my activity varies a bit week to week and we go out to eat 1-2 times a week. While I was traveling I seem to have lost about 4-5lbs over about 2 months. Not happy about it though because…

I just can't get the hang of these either. I feel like my arms are doing the work and I can't properly squeeze my shoulder blades together when the weight gets heavier. The bar gets to my torso and I don't really feel like my back is doing the work. :( Cable rows seem somewhat better. Or inverted rows.

It would be pretty easy to set up an online form that would fill in a google spreadsheet with people's responses. The issue would be choosing the questions. I'm a social scientist so I'm really interested in research and understanding patterns in people's experiences. I do appreciate the need for longer reset periods. I'm…

I was thinking it would be awesome to create an EM2WL database of how people respond to increasing calories. Obviously not as good as published study, but more data would be good.

I'm getting different numbers for you using the Scooby calculator (http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/)... Height: 64 inches Weight: 142 Age: 36 Activity: Light I get BMR: 1397 TDEE: 1921 15% cut: 1633 I decided to do a "reset" and eat at my maintenance calories for a while so I could find my actual TDEE, rather…

Are you sure you aren't underestimating your TDEE? If you lift 3x a week 1500 seems like a pretty small amount to eat. Can you give us your stats? How are you calculating your TDEE?
-
That does seem to be true for me...if I eat a lot of carbs I feel hungry, but if I eat a lot of fats and proteins I'm not hungry. One of my favorite vegan recipes is black bean and sweet potato enchiladas. I can't eat cheese so I put a little daiya on top. I hardly ever eat those because I can eat a lot of them! Yum!
-
Yeah, eating that many calories while maintaining a vegan diet would be tough! I don't eat dairy or wheat because of digestive problems. I'm only eating 2500 calories a day. (I'm a lot less active than you are.) But I also feel the tendency to eat foods I normally wouldn't. I'm eating a lot more sugar and grains than I…

I started EM2WL about six weeks ago. Have been increasing my calories and now eating around 2500 a day. The scale has stopped going down, but I seem to be losing inches at about the same rate as when I was eating low calorie. I don't think that should even be possible! Yesterday my husband said I was a black hole...my mass…

Maybe your actual TDEE is higher than what the calculator gave you? I have probably still 40-50 lbs to lose and decided to try eating up to my TDEE for a while just to see what it actually is. Those calculators give you an idea, but you don't really know your personal TDEE until you test it out. As I increased I did notice…

Yeah, I'm just worried about trying to track while having to eat out a lot. On the positive side I can do a lot of bodyweight strength work and jogging.
-
That's a good idea!

Hi Stefanie! Welcome! Have you read some of the announcements, the quickstart post for example? Also, there is also a website for this group which has a lot of information and resources: eatmore2weighless.com. This group recommends slow sustainable fat-loss. How do you feel on 1400-1600 calories a day? Do you feel like you…

LOL Neonbeige. No, I'm just chatting now. I think it might be good for me to get over some of my caution about hurting myself. I have always wanted to learn how to surf even though my balance is terrible. Skateboarding is kind of like surfing right? Or skiing, that is kind of dangerous, but it sounds fun. Sports are just…

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's condition. My stress was somewhat similar...I was in graduate school when my husband developed rheumatoid arthritis, which is a chronic autoimmune disorder. He went from a normal 40 year old to moving like he was 90 years old and having terrible pain. He could barely walk and…
-
Just from personal experience, I was able to lose weight recently after my stress levels went down a ton.

OMG. My balance is terrible and I'm a wimp about falling and hurting myself. Although I used to like horseback riding. Oh, and scuba. Why do I like expensive stuff? LOL. Yesterday I heard about the zombie running app. I'm not a runner, but I have been trying jogging a little and that sounds fun. I might buy the Couch to 5K…

I don't have any advice. That just sucks that you have gotten sick. My husband has rheumatoid arthritis which is an auto-immune disorder. He has a lot of pain and damage to his joints so exercising is difficult. Does your medical team have any advice for how to handle this problem? Is the problem the same no matter what…

Haybales is waaay more experienced. I just didn't understand your question. Wouldn't you just go calculate your TDEE for sedentary activity level if you were injured and not able to exercise? Even if you are sedentary you are going to be burning more than your BMR.

Manda - That Scooby pushup plan is kicking my *ss! I thought my form on pushups was pretty good, but I totally couldn't do 5 sets of 20 knee pushups. Gives me something to work towards!
-
I think we might need more information. What is your TDEE? How much of a cut are you taking? How much are you exercising? My understanding is that normally with EM2WL you don't "eat back" your exercise calories. You take your normal amount of activity into calculating your TDEE. I guess you would "eat back" your exercise…
-
OMG. I want to to Scooby's push-up plan! I can do sets of about 5-6 regular pushups with decent form now but haven't been sure how to progress beyond that. Congrats on the strength wins!

I have a bike but I just think of it for commuting. Maybe I should look for some fun bike trails. I'm uncoordinated that I'm afraid of team sports with balls. LOL. I do like dancing, but my husband needs a knee replacement so I would feel weird going out dancing without him.

Well I'm not an expert in this since I am just doing reset now, so many someone with more experience will jump in. My understanding is the point of reset is not to lose. You want your weight to stabilize. So I'm just wondering, if you found your TDEE was 2250 back in the fall of last year, then how long did you give to…

Is your plan to increase your calories to find your TDEE? Maybe your metabolism is speeding up and you are ready to increase your calories some more? Considering your stats, your TDEE is definitely more than 1900. When you stay you started EM2WL and gained weight that wasn't coming off, what do you mean? Did you do a full…
