  • I’m not sure I would say jflongo is anti fat, but I do think they raise some valid points but it’s overlooked maybe because of the delivery at which the posts were made. I would say, I will have an olive oil based dressing from time to time mainly because it’s delicious and I understand when I eat that item that I am not…
  • Simple item for me. Under my bed I have plastic storage container full of my old clothes that all fit about 6 years ago. I went through it recently to see if there was anything I would want as I get closer to my old size. In it I found this well worn Jimi Hendrix T-shirt that I loved wearing, it still doesn’t fit, but I…
  • I don’t think IF is some miracle, as ultimately I still fee it comes down to CICO. But if it works for you then you should definitely go for it. For me the claimed benefits of IF have intrigued me, specifically the cognitive sharpness piece. I have started it a few days ago as a little experiment. The one thing I’ve…
  • Amazing work to all that have posted in this thread. I find this thread extremely inspiring. Keep up the great work.
  • Good comments are, your looking good, what are you doing as it’s working Annoying comments, are don’t get to skinny like you were before as it’s not healthy. I’m getting the annoying more often than I would like. I was skinny for like a year of my life 11 years ago when I got completely hooked on long distance running. I…
  • Echo what everyone else is saying. One thing I tell myself is, you didn’t put the weight on overnight, so why would you expect it to come off that quickly. Just keep focused on what your doing and a year from now you will be where you want, or well on your way.
  • Don’t sweat it, it’s just one day, tomorrow you could be 2lbs down
  • * pack my lunch every day, including 3 one litre water bottles, and a coffee thermos. This has eliminated any need of stopping at a store or fast food joint * log everything * don’t sweat it if I take a client or my Wife out for dinner, just enjoy it and move on * weigh myself everyday just so I can truly understand the…
  • Echo what everyone else is saying, all I would add is that if you are eating in a deficit fitting the caloried density of oil into your day could make it harder on yourself.
  • Eat veggies and fruits and potassium will not be an issue you ever worry about
  • I cook mine in a pot on the stove, no oil. Pops fine and then you can add what you see fit afterwards
  • So, I'm new to plant based, and one of the things that stood out is the not counting calories thing. I've lost 20lbs since I started in January on plant based, and at first the weight was flying off, and this was after I was already regular dieting for two months, needless to say I thought this was going to be a cake walk.…
  • Great job everyone, some great progress posted here. SW - 257 CW - 221 GW - 190 Been at this since November of last year, happy with the progress so far. I did everything in steps. I stopped smoking and went CICO in November. I didn't change type of foods completely and was just counting calories. That was getting tougher…
  • I do understand that counting calories could be fatiguing to some, however I think it would be difficult to lose without doing so. Since going whole food plant based the common theme in the well known doctors of that community is that you absolutely do not need to count calories. I haven’t taken them at their word on this…
  • I do daily weigh ins, it helps me have a greater understanding of how certain things affect my water retention and such.
  • I find YouTube to be very useful, search plant based recipes and you will stumble on to some great channels.
  • Your taste buds will definitely change. When I started eating plant based the first 3 weeks were tough getting use to what I thought were bland flavours. Over time that has changed, and I learned to cook better and my taste buds have altered and are not desiring the sweet and salty tastes that I used to love.
  • Exercise every day is optimal, but strenuous exercise everyday is not ideal, as you would need a rest day. My rest days usually include a 30-45 minute walk? Technically a form of exercise but not at all high impact
  • I use fruit, specifically berries
  • I think this really depends on the person, and you have to be honest with yourself. Some people can fit in the junk food into their calories and make it work and they have the self control to not return to old habits and overeat on them. My personal belief is this does not apply to the vast majority of people, and that we…
  • Whole foods, plant based and you will never have an issue with potassium. Basically get your veggies and fruit in with your meat and you will get all the potassium you need, as well as hot that fibre you need
  • I would reaearch calorie density. Jeff Novick talks about this quite a bit. Eating 1300 calories of calorie dense foods will leave you hungry. You need to mix in large portions of veggies which are high nutrient but low calorie on all your meals, this will fill your stomach and make you feel satisfied.
  • I’m a 6’ male, and most of my adult life I have been around 195-210, with fairly athletic build. I wouldn’t have fallen into a healthy BMI range but nobody would have considered me overweight. About 9 years ago I developed an obsession with long distance running, and over the course of a year my weight ended up at 170lbs.…
  • Look up Caldwell esselltyn, he is well known for his long standing and proven results in helping people with heart disease.
  • Same here, I envy people that can do the moderation thing. But sweets are my weakness, I know that allowing myself small amounts of chocolate will lead to big amounts of chocolate, so I just leave them out of my eating plan. I think you have to be honest with yourself and know which category you fall in. One comment to the…
  • Lentils, and beans, are good source of protein
  • Agree with everyone that a week is too short. Also agree that daily weighing first thing in the morning is the best way to learn just how much your body fluctuates. As an example I was 1.7lbs heavier this morning over yesterday morning, that doesn’t mean that I’ve gained that, it just means that I’ve got food still in the…
  • I’ve copied and pasted my diary from today. I’m a routine eater, so during my work week, my breakfast, lunch, and snacks are almost identical to this list. My dinner alters daily, so today because I made burritos, my fat intake and sodium was quite a bit higher than normal as I had the guacamole and hummus on the two…
  • I don’t do cheat days, but may indulge in a higher calorie meal from time to time. A cheat day could easily waste an entire week of eating at a deficit if not careful.
  • Thanks for the feedback, I will see how this week goes, and maybe bump my number up 500 a day to slow down if necessary. I don’t have an issue with 2lbs a week as that was my original target, I just couldn’t sustain the calorie deficit on my old diet and dropped to 1lb a week to up my calories, now with plant based that…
