  • Good information there, and just to add to it. Creatine has been shown to be a fairly affective supplement for most. However there is a segment of the population that would be considered non-responders. My guess is you fall in that category. Myself I do find it helpful, but it’s not a huge difference. Like the OP, it…
  • Many fortified foods, but b12 supplement once a week to be safe. Ironically B-12 deficiencies are always linked to plant based eaters, however many meat eaters have similar issues. I didn’t start eating plant based until January, but have twice in the last 6 years had to go on shots because of being deficient, and I was a…
  • It seems a little higher than typical, but not out of the realm. In regards to the the 6 week advice timeline, I’m fairly certain that is incorrect. I’ve read nothing stating you need to stop taking after 6 weeks.
  • Thanks for the recipe, I’m gonna give it a shot, love lentil based recipes
  • Carbs aren’t your enemy, you just need to avoid the refined carbs. You sound like me, in that you seem fairly addicted to these items. I would suggest cutting them out entirely for three months or so until you can reset your eating habits and taste buds. It sucks and it isn’t easy, but some people aren’t cut out for…
  • Beans, veggies, fruits, and all those problems are taken care of
  • Like many are saying, nuts and seeds. Use the whole food source instead of oils. Oils are just empty calories, you can get the higher healthy fats by consuming food
  • Some good info here for you, but would echo many of the other sentiments. Get Beans and Lentils as a staple in the diet, with some tofu or tempeh and the protein takes care of itself. Nuts and seeds give you the healthy fats and some protein. Specifically Pepittas in a 50 gram serving gives you 18 grams of protein. I would…
  • Diet soda, won’t directly hurt you at all in terms of weight loss. However there are some studies out there that consuming diet soda can lead to weight gain, which if I recall is due to the sweetening effect in the drink making one crave other sugary treats. I drank diet soda up until the new year, and I decided to give it…
  • One other thingI would recommend is track your measurements, as when the scale gets you down because of water retention, the measurements will help reinforce that your moving in the right direction
  • I think your approach to concentrating on getting your eating figured out before adding exercise is a great approach. To many people do these drastic changes all at once and end up failing because of it. Take your time and be patient for the journey ahead.
  • Why not get it from the whole food, it’s fibre, and it can be had in abundance of fruits and veggies, you wouldn’t have to eat a lot of them to hit get your fibre up.
  • Great job, keep up the good work, and keep putting one foot in front of the other as you move forward to your ultimate goal.
  • Most people that have commented already will disagree, and that is because they successfully have worked the sweets into their calories, but reading your post, it sounds to me like you need a period of complete abstaining from sweets. If you can go 3-4 months you can retrain you tastebuds and you will crave new foods, stay…
  • The path to success is not to look for the magic pill diet. Start by eating a healthy balanced diet, cutting out or severely limiting the foods that brought you to where you are today. You must be honest with yourself on that front and know if you have the willpower to be a true moderator of junk food items, or if you have…
  • I agree with this. I eat whole food plant based, when people ask me about what I eat because of the weight loss and I say whole food plant based, the response is “so your a vegan”. My answer is no, as vegan is an ethical stance, with much more than a way of eating involved, and while I agree that factory farming is…
  • Not a problem Hilogirl, glad you found the information useful.
  • This, it’s all about calorie density. If your going to eat high fat calorie dense food, you better fill your plate with nutrient dense, low calorie veggies. As that way you will feel full
  • Dont sweat the recommended protein intake that is often advised. It is way higher than the average person needs, and is geared more towards the athlete who is training. As a female 50 grams is more than enough to meet your nutritional needs. If you want more than by all means indulge, but don’t feel the pressure is all I’m…
  • I don’t do Omad, but it’s not exactly one meal a day from my understanding. From people I’ve seen do it, or what I’ve found in researching it, is that it’s intermittent fasting with about an 90-120 minute feed window. Ultimately you could get your necessary calories in during that window.

  • It’s actually much less than that, I believe that what I hear most is 1gram per lb of lean body mass. Truth is unless your strength training, you can actually get by on much less. They say the average male needs about 60 grams a day, personally I eat about 100. Some people do find it helps them feel more satiated. Either…
  • I enjoy a bit of olive oil on pasta from time to time, it’s very calorie dense though so it’s a rare occasion when I’m eating in deficit

  • Dr. Barnard is a very respected doctor who pushes the plant based life. He was a guy I researched quite a bit when I decided to go plant based. I can’t comment on the diabetes issue, although there are multiple plant based doctors that have had similar success specifically with heart disease. All I would say is that plant…
  • Unless you are a body builder there is no need for excessive protein, and even those guys go way overboard. Read a book by Dr. Garth Davis called Proteinaholic, interesting read definitely made me re-examine my thoughts on the issue. Myself I aim for 100 grams a day which seems to be more than sufficient.
  • I avoided surgery as well, then all hell broke loss and a gall stone got caught in my bile duct. Long story short I got pancreatitis and ended up hospitalized for 3 weeks on IVs. Definitely should have just had it removed when the doctor suggested. Don’t miss the painful attacks at all.
  • Everyone has already said it, you need fiber. Veggies are your friend, it doesn’t take much to get your daily recommended intake.

  • Great job on getting started, that’s the first step. Just to echo some of the other comments. The biggest mistake people make is trying to overhaul everything at once, they quickly fade and have a long history of starting and stopping. Step one is get the food right, your lifestyle sounds very similar to the one I led for…
  • Great job, keep up the amazing work. True inspiration
  • Thanks pierinifitness, I have been lurking around that fasting group the last day or so, when I realized that there were group pages. As with anything we do things that feel good and have results. I’ve been doing IF for about a week, which is just to short of a window to have any clear concise feelings. What I would say is…
