  • If you're drinking on the low end of 2 liters more often than not, then it is likely not enough. At minimum I (and many others) drink 4 liters a day and that's without exercise. Definitely need more if hot or strenuous exercise. I'd definitely try upping the water intake at least a liter.
  • I would count that as a moderately active lifestyle for the daily caloric burn (without exercise) and then only count exercise as actual exercise. By upping your lifestyle to more active it automatically adjusts calories. Or like you said, keep your lifestyle at sedative and your work calories can be extra burn that's not…
  • This is one of those things where you have to choose what you care about more: your health or people nagging you about your health. Personally, I get selfish in this area and feel my body is more important. People can say what they will, ask all the questions they want, try to guilt me into eating what they eat. At the end…
  • Arches strengthen just like any other muscle. If the pain is dissipating, it's probably not too worrisome. Just overworked arches (assuming that is the area that hurts as that is a common problem). If you walked on a paved road or anything with a slope, and didn't switch directions of travel, then the sloping could have…

  • I had major surgery for my extractions. I lasted on icecream and jello for about half a day and then said screw it. Was so hungry and not a huge sugar eater, so icecream/pudding and such made me sick after a couple of meals. I just ate a lot of mac and cheese. Use small shell noodles and you don't have to chew much. Got me…
  • Agreed. I run a lot of pavement so I get about 200 out of mine before I can tell they're too broke down. When I ran more trails and soft terrain I could get an easy 300-400 out of shoes. If you're into running or something of the nature, you'll find shoes will become the most expensive thing. It's important to buy good…

  • Do a board search on eating back calories. There's a ton of info on here. My 2 cents, if you're hungry eat some of them back but keep them healthy and not too starchy. If you're still starving, eat a few more back. I eat around 1800, and burn 500 a day. That nets me at 1300ish. If I'm hungry I'll eat 200-300 back in high…

  • Not from that area but I love the area :)
  • As a runner I get foot cramps if my electrolytes are low. Make sure you've got plenty of potassium and calcium in your diet. It's amazing what eating a banana before a workout can do for muscles
  • Don't know how this randomly popped up on my recents, but it needs bumped ;)
  • Depends. 80% of the time I don't eat back my calories because I'm not in a huge deficit. I eat around 1800 normally (about 500 deficit). So workout calories are usually 300-400 and I'm typically not hungry around 1400 net calories. Now if I'm eating a lower day, say 1400, or have an very high calorie burn day >400, then…
  • I've been running for 8 years. The last 4 have been more serious with actual training and racing. My longest race distance is ~10 miles though I've trained up to a half. I'm working my way up to a marathon within the next 6 months. Feel free to add me here as well as Nike+ @jashire
  • That's great! Congrats on the huge accomplishment!
  • I just added those who posted user names. If you just posted your name and there were multiples under that I didn't add you. I'm jashire
  • I'm loving Wahoo TickrX so far. I think the cadence and step pattern is fairly accurate as well as the HRM. I'm still figuring out the GPS though. It's way off from Nike Run (and others) and I havent cared enough to calibrate it since I use Nike at the same time. Works great with phone too since I always run with my phone…
  • Lansing area. Feel free to add me. I'm pretty active on here and am up for group runs or workouts if anyone is in the area
  • Need to know height/weight to remotely guestimate calories. Even then can be way off. Best bet is to get a HRM. Any will do to get a general idea of HR. Chest straps are more reliable. I have a Wahoo TickrX and really like it but that's on the pricier end of HRMs. If you don't want a HRM, get good at taking a pulse for 15…
  • Don't be worried about the people there. Most, if not all, that attend a gym are more interested in what they're doing than what anyone else is doing (from experience on both ends of the exercise spectrum). And there's a certain gym comradarie and respect shown for those who show up since you're way ahead of those who…
  • This was my dog's first 5k just a couple of months after I adopted him. He took 2nd in our division and proceeds went to pet adoption so that was pretty cool :)

  • You enter your serving as a percentage of it. So if serving only lists "1 cup" and you had 1/4th cup, you put serving size as 0.25

  • I got asked by text by my best friend. Granted, we talked frequently before, but I didn't find it tacky. She was excited and taking to all of her friends at once, so a text was the way she went!
