Agree w/mk2fit; welcome all!!!

How is everyone doing?? Haven't heard from ya'll in a while!!

It's amazing what happens when you quit "dieting" and make it a lifestyle that you can maintain for the rest of your life. Congrats; wonderful job!! B)

Nana; totally agree!!

Agree w/all the above. I didn't have much to lose (just a few lbs), but the main thing was getting control of what I was really eating and adding the consistent exercising to the mix. Now that the weather is nice adding a daily neighborhood walk to the three days I do at the gym.

Hi, I'm 66; do weights (heavy as I can w/o causing injury) three days a week; moderate cardio (helps w/LDL issues). My original goal was to lose abt seven or eight lbs; ended up losing 11; even kept it off while I was incapacitated when I broke my right wrist. Trying to keep as much muscle mass as poss (and maybe add a…

She should also be lifting heavier weights than just DBs. I eat around 80 - 95 g protein (on avg) per day; I'm over 60, do weights three days a week (use heavy as I can w/o injury), moderate amts of cardio and do not feel I'm eating too much protein. Trying not to lose muscle mass (and maybe put on a little more if poss).

I guess, unless you're a fitness model or participate in competitions where a "six-pack" is just abt required.

Ditto to all the above; and just want to add one more thing. You may want to check to see how much sugar you are eating, especially if you are eating highly processed food items. Manufactures sneak it into food items, so reading package labels cutting back on highly processed food (as much as you can-know can be difficult…

Not a clue, but agree w/TRoberts.

Jacobs, Good idea. Just remember that it is a journey and not a project/diet with an end date Enjoy yourself along the way and have the occasional treat (cake, candy, pizza, etc.). I have dark chocolate chips every night after dinner; my treat most of the time. I still have the other (mentioned above); just count the cals…

Welcome to our group trailgirl!! B)

deblcar, Totally agree w/you! I don't work (or live) in an assisted living facility; and hopefully won't end up there. I do my best to take care of myself (I do weights along w/small amts of cardio-don't want it eating into my muscle gains) and eat reasonably well (avoid most processed food). Don't know what may happen…

Agree w/Nana; I wasn't trying to bash docs either, just saying same as Nana that we should know our own bodies and be able to communicate issues w/our doc.
-
Utah, it may be generational; who knows. I found a doc I like and have stuck w/him for several years. You need to go where you feel comfortable; it they don't make you feel that way you need to find someone else. There are some good ones out there; they are just hard to find. B)

Totally agree! It's sad that we have to educate ourselves before going to the dr. I prefer to see a PA; most have several years experience (and some even have the education to go w/it).
-
I agree; some make docs really miss the boat when it comes to helping women. Had to have a bio on my left breast back 25 years ago; doc who did it told me I could do a 1.5 mile run (P.T. test) for the Navy Reserve three weeks later (tried to run and my breast swelled up). Had to have a med screening month at the Reserve…

Agree w/Nana!! And I wrote this on a friend's post earlier: Aging process you can't stop; getting old you can (cause it's an attitude). There are medical issues that happen that we can't control; but we can control how we handle it. I broke my right wrist in Dec of 14; was out of commission for a little over three months…

Ditto w/mk2fit!! B)

Rosa, Welcome!!! B)

Brigit, Wow; congrats on your progress!! Keep at it and you'll reach your goals; and if you mess up (and you will)--tomorrow is another day. B)
-
Shiny, You are so right; it is a lifestyle, not a project or "diet" with an end date. And if you mess up, tomorrow is another day. Good luck on your journey and we're here for you!! B)

Agree w/Nana, Ann, & mk2fit; do what works for you, not some meal plan from some magazine (or online), etc. that have you eating five or six times a day. I eat three meals a day w/one small snack between lunch & dinner and an extra snack on the days I workout after I get back home from the gym. B)

I'm trying to build muscle & lose body fat--not weight. My question is how come every eating plan out there deals with a calorie deficit (300 - 400 cals worth) designed to lose weight???? I'm 60+, 5"3" and weigh abt 115 lbs (AND DO NOT WANT TO LOSE ANY MORE WEIGHT); I do full-body workouts 3X a week, and lift as heavy as I…
-
Jamie, Agree w/Nana; this thread is not exclusive. You are more than welcome to share your journey. Have a great weekend! B)
-
Agree w/the two above; I've do full body 3X week and periodically change the exercises and have noticed changes (increases in strength and hypertrophy (and I'm in my 60s). B)
-
Cory, OK if I put you on my prayer list??

Georgia, Welcome!! We're here for you!
