I'll have to check it out.

I can think of better ways to spend $50; like the new top & pants I bought today on sale for under $30.
-
You might want to gain a few kg back. I'm 135 cm and weigh 53 kg; another lady at the gym I belong to is the same height said that she looked horrible at 53kg--looks better at 61. So I think that it depends on your build and how you want to look. Jrulo is right; we're clueless when it comes to what healthy looks like. I…

I'm up and down myself unless I'm watching a movie or a 1.5 hr show w/no breaks in it.

Agreed! First saw her several years ago in a women's fitness mag. Excellent shape for 80 years old; gives us all something to strive for. Women need to be reminded not to be afraid of lifting heavy weights; just start out small and work yourself up. It may take us a little longer, but it can be done.

Welcome and we're here for you!!

Oops; sorry abt that (one too many ps). Do better next time. ;)

ppsuemon, Many thanks! I'll change the macros. Have a great weekend! B)

ppsuemon, I weigh 116 (+/-), am 5'3", and body fat is @ 23% (want to get down to abt 21%. Don't want to go too low; doesn't look good on older women. Been tracking for about year and half or so; missed a few days here & there but have been pretty consistent. Question is how much protein should I be eating (and possibly cut…

Need some advice on re-comp. Having trouble figuring out how many cals (pro/carbs/fat) I should be eating to increase muscle and reduce fat; info for re-comp on MFP says one thing and then another when you plug the info into MFP. I'm older (middle; I'm a little older than you), so I know more protein is a must (but how…

middlehaitch, #1: Happy Birthday!! You're right, we can build the muscle; just takes longer. Also, did you know that Paul wrote that when he was 18 for his father?
-
margtrewin, you can do it; we're here for you!! Just remember you will have bad days along the way where you mess up (we all do); just get back up and start over. You only fail when you quit! B)
-
I'm doing re-comp (had to start over due to an injury) and 40 is ancient history. B)
-
Could be, but I wouldn't start eating that many cals right away. You want to add back slowly and follow queenliz's advice abt logging and watching. That's what I did and ended up (for now anyway) eating slightly below MFP's cal recommendation. It's all about figuring out what works for you not what some book or systems…

trina, I'm with you on Ernestine; I ran across her several years ago and have a pic of her on my computer. If she can do it we can too!! B)

jerb00, I don't feel deprived @ 1370 - 1400 cals a day. My maintenance cals (per MPF) are 1460 so I'm eating just below TDEE for my height and weight. I'm older than most folks on this thread so don't need as many cals as someone younger. Trying to reduce body fat w/o losing any more weight so thru experimentation I…

Forty6and2, I'm 5'3" and am re-starting recomp; don't need to lose any more weight (at 116/117). I normally eat around 1370 - 1400 cals a day; do weight training 3 days a week w/usually 15 - 20 cardio session after weights. Normal start for recomp is after you have pretty much come close to your desired weight. I try to…

middle, I agree; I'm 65 and am trying to eat as close to 120g protein as I can (and trying to reduce the amt of carbs). Not where I want to be yet, but getting there. I also do weights three times a week at a locally-owned gym. Weight lifting by older women is good not only for your muscles, but your bone health as well. B)

Have been doing the 30-day abs challenge and have already noticed a change. I measured my waist this morning and have lost half an inch; with no changes for the last several weeks doing my regular routine. Has anyone else noticed a change? B)
-
jester, I'm with you and totally agree. Folks don't realize that under eating is the worst thing you can do to try and lose weight (your body ends up gaining it all back and then some). I'm older than most of you, and do my best to eat enough to fuel my body (as well as my workouts) by mostly eating REAL FOOD, watching the…

usmcmp, ketonekaren, hornsby, Thanks for the info; had already using egg whites--I'll just up the amt.
-
usmcmp, I'm trying to up my proteins w/o increasing fat/carbs @ the same time. Any suggestions other than chicken breasts, PB, low-fat beef/pork and whey powder? I'm older so I know building muscle mass is going to be harder for me, than for someone younger--but hey I'm willing to try. B)

evesmom, doesn't matter if you have to do planks on your knees; it's a place to start. As for the leg lifts; they hurt my back as well so I bend my knees (make them a 90 degree angle); just make sure you feel it in your abs. Do as many as you can and try to progress to regular leg lifts (even if you can only do one or two)…

I'm in; not sure if I can make the #s required everyday, but will do as many as I can. B)

You can find info on the make & model of scale on-line; just type it in and it should come up. I have a Weight Watchers that my husband bought over 10 yrs ago and I couldn't find the info in the house so looked it up on-line and downloaded to my computer. And, BTW 3.4% for bone mass is not good; you may want to have your…

The "M" probably stands for muscle mass. As for the "B" I have no idea; are you getting the stats from??
-
I agree w/Amber and the other comments; some folks see you becoming healthier and taking care of yourself and want to make themselves feel better by putting you down. I'm 65 and lost 11 lbs last year by cutting back on overly processed food, watching my portion sizes and sugar intake (natural & added). I don't consider…

Agree w/AnnPT77, finding something you can stick with and is manageable is the key. If you try to over-do you may end up over-training and defeating your purpose. I'm 65 and only hit the gym 3 days a week (on average, I sometimes miss); I try to keep busy during the week doing other things (house cleaning, etc.). Biggest…

Agree with all the above!! I was out shopping back a year or so ago and tried on a size 1 and it literally fell off me (and I now wear a size 4). I have a size 8 from 20 years ago and it's close in size to a 4 now.
