Ok, it has been a couple days since I posted the original question. Since taking several of your suggestions, let me just say I feel better, less pain, more energy, etc. AFTER my workout this morning, than I did BEFORE the workout on Saturday. To sum up what I am doing now: I am continuing to lift weights three times a…

Appetite supressants must be good for you, or why would it take me no time at all to find doctors willing to prescribe them whereas it took two decades to find a doctor willing to test thyroid function by testing thyroid function. (By which I mean I've had doctors offer appetite suppressants to me without asking for them…

Thanks. I did go back to lower weights today. I guess in my head I was expecting progress to be more linear, and I was hoping for it to go faster. Like, I wanted to be already back up to what I could have done before I took the desk job. But for as long as I was sedentary, that really is foolish pride and not realistic.

Thank you all for your replies! As for a programme, the trainer who did the orientation gave me a sheet of paper with a grid. She wrote down the different machines, the settings to adjust each one for my body, the weight to start with, and how many reps. We spent a few minutes doing several reps at different weights on…

Very kind of you to say so. If I can buy back some good out of the struggles of my life by offering kindness to others, then I will.

I love the little smiles all over!

Depending on your hair type, ACV is a really excellent rinse for your hair. It leaves mine very silky, and helps control dandruff. I use it after the shampoo and before the conditioner.

When I binge, at the start of it, I can feel myself wanting to do harm to myself. Sometimes it is because there is another person I wish I could hurt but cannot, sometimes it is because I want to punish myself for whatever reason. Are your emotional triggers anything like that? When I break that cycle for myself, the…

The problems with your family members, with any people like this in any of our lives - what's wrong there, causing them to speak and act in hurtful ways, those problems are inside of them. Their ugly words, their cutting words, their resentful words - that comes from inside them. The problem is not coming from inside you.…

Smiling the beatific smile of a smart alec. I've been taking these to work on days I need a lunch. Aldi also has a veggie lasagna, but I find them as satisfying as the eggplant parmesan. I alternate with bagged salad kits.

My secret ingredient? Baking cocoa in anything with tomatoes- chili or spaghetti sauce, just a rounded teaspoon in a big pot. It adds a depth and richness, coordinating well with both chili powder and balsamic vinegar. My second secret ingredient is a sprinkle of cinnamon on chicken and in chicken soup. When not combined…

The best - stopped for take-out at my favorite Thai place, pad king for the win.

Yeah, there is a good possibility that this is at least partly water weight rather than all adipose tissue. The fix for that is getting back to your usual eating plan and drinking plenty of water to help flush out excess sodium.

Meh, I might do a veggie pizza or I might do scalloped potatoes, steamed veggies, and ham. It's just the man and me, and he has to work.

Look for a recipe for tomato-zucchini mélange, put it in the skillet, pitch some tilapia or other white fish on top, cover, cook until the fish is flaky.

I made a chicken and veggie soup in the crock pot. Yeah, baby.

Aw, thank you everybody.

I want one! I may or may not need to bring a lunch some days now that I got a promotion...

Your meat and potatoes guy still needs to eat some vegetables, sometime. And you still need some protein and starch. So why not cook meat, non-starchy vegetables, and potatoes? Your plates might look a little different once you have loaded them up, but that's ok. Measure your portions - 3 ounces of sirloin tip steak is…

Google doesn't smell. That great sage Rupert Giles said, "I know. Smell is the most powerful trigger to the memory there is. A certain flower, or a-a whiff of smoke can bring up experiences long forgotten. Books smell musty and-and-and rich. The knowledge gained from a computer is a... it, uh, it has no-no texture, no-no…

For a good general purpose cookbook, I love my Mennonite Community Cookbook. Meat, vegetables, bread, pies, cakes, cookies, canning, salads, meatless meals. Simple things and more complex, a whole range of foods. And the section in the back on how to make lotion and soap, and how to plan food for a barn-raising is fun to…

Do you mean mine? It's a mandala that I found on a site that offers free, printable coloring pages. It was a pretty intricate one, and I was proud of finishing it. Plus I thought it made a nice change from my usual icon, which is a pic of my two cats.

I don't know why this thread makes me so happy. I don't need to pack meals to take to work, so technically it isn't my thing. (I guess that makes it like a fanfic I read for a show I haven't seen -it was a really fun story even if I didn't know the characters beforehand). The cute little containers, the lovely presentation…

I like a good sweet potato/carrot/rutabaga mash (peel, boil, mash with milk and a bit of butter like you would regular potatoes) with pork loin roast. Then a nice salad or some steamed veggies, whatever you like. Another thing I do, is sometimes I will chop celery, carrots, onion, potatoes and Brussels sprouts and stick…

Where do you live? I can't find pumpkins anymore that taste like anything, not even the ones that are meant for making pies with. We have been buying buttercup and hubbard squashes to use in place of pumpkins for everything except decorating.

I've done cottage pie with all cauliflower, no potatoes. I liked it a lot. Of course, I really like cauliflower.

Definitely seconding the recommendation to get checked out by a doctor. There are a number of medical conditions that cause hair loss. Malnutrition is one possibility. At your height 1200 calories is really low. It would be tough to get all the nutrients your body needs to function, even if you are eating a very…

Valerie, Spam and pineapple fried rice sounds fantastic! I'll be Googling for a recipe...

We generally plan around the sale papers. Often what we end up doing is buying a large cut of whatever is on sale, cooking it all at once, then eating off it for several days. For instance, this week, it was rump roast. Baby carrots were also on sale. There are two of us, so a five pound roast is going to make quite a few…
