My roommate has had membership at Planet Fitness for years. He calls it his "fat tax" - I'm sure he isn't the only one paying without caring.

I'd skip someone's recomendation of carrying water. It will be annoying to carry it in either hand or in fanny pack. Organizations likely have watering stations so that you can quench your thirst in the middle of the run.
