Setting such a drastic goal is immediately setting yourself up for frustration, stress, anxiety, and ultimately failure. You're going to stress yourself silly trying to attain it, probably not do it, get to the event and get past it, and then what, gain it back? Forget it. If you really want to lose weight, understand that…

I've never heard of it prescribed just as a weight loss aid. If I were you, I'd be cautious in taking it if you're not diabetic. Instead, I'd invest in a food scale, put my stats into MFP, weigh and measure every morsel of food that goes into my mouth and work really hard at sticking to my calorie budget, with a little…

The weight on American packaging labels is the dry weight for things like rice and pasta.

I'm 41 and have learned a ton from being on this site. I feel like I've finally found the key to weight loss and management that will last a lifetime without making any drastic dietary changes. I've also realized the importance of doing exercise that I enjoy, and for me that is distance running. I run because I love to,…

Congrats on your success! I guess the most pressing issue is staying within my calorie budget daily. Some days I do very well and others I just go over. It balances out however, and I try not to stress about it. I don't think I have fear about losing weight; I've been on this site for a while and feel I've finally found…

People commonly tell me that I don't eat enough. I eat plenty, thank you. The point is, YOU have to take responsibility for YOU and not allow anyone's comments or suggestions to derail your hard work. It's very hard to live with someone who eats a lot and doesn't seem to suffer for it (they will eventually). But the…

Starvation mode does not exist in the first world; it's strictly a third world thing. If you're hungry all the time, perhaps you've set your goal too high (2 lbs/week, am I right?). Set it to 1 or 1.5 a week for a while until you get used to eating at a deficit. Your first week's weight loss was probably water weight; it…

I think what people are trying to tell you is that, yes go ahead and take your vitamin if you feel it helps, but do not lose focus on your calorie deficit. That is the key to weight loss. Keep calories as your main focus and don't forget to weigh and measure everything that goes into your mouth. Also check to see if those…

What kind of cast are you in? I ask because there are exercise programs for people with limitations -- upper body workouts for people with lower limb mobility issues and vice versa. A friend of mine has MS and has created a workout program for those in a wheelchair.

I've had a few of those this week, like I'm still hungry no matter what I eat. I did go over my calories a few days but tried to stick to healthy snacks. The best thing I made all week were baked cinnamon apples - they were glorious!

IS there an accurate (and accessible) way to measure body fat percentage? I notice that some calorie calculators will give an estimate as well.

I love those rotisserie chickens! I'll eat some with a meal and then spend the week picking it apart for homemade chicken salad, homemade soup, salad toppers, snacks, and sometimes I'll boil the skin and carcass to make my own broth. By me they are only about $7.00 so for me that's very cheap to get so many meals from. God…

Help, I can't loose weight! Yes, the grammar part bothers me more than the impatience.

You're right, it's a mental block and you need to find your way around it. I'm also 5-10 and maintenance for me is about 2100. If you are starving, you are probably restricting too much. Eating at 1500 would be fine and would still allow you to lose. It seems to me like you lack patience, too. You expect too much too soon,…

I agree with those telling you to take a small break and eat at maintenance for a short time. You might actually FEEL better.

Without knowing the details of your diet plan and what it does and does not allow you to eat, it'll be difficult for folks to make suggestions. It also depends on your definition of "good." You mean tasty? Personally I love oatmeal. I have it with a little almond milk, dried cranberries, raisins, cinnamon, and a dab of…

I'm a distance runner and for a few months last year I concentrated on lifting. It seemed to help me burn fat a little faster than my running does. I didn't change my diet really. The lifting seemed to also help with running in the sense that I felt my core was stronger and I had an easier time powering up hills. I love…

Thanks guys! Good to know. I'm glad to know it helped with your breakouts, Jane. I have terribly acne-prone skin and I'm in my 40s. Only Accutane has helped clear me up, but dermatologists are extremely hesitant to prescribe that (even to a woman like me who cannot conceive a baby). I think I'll give it a try!

He must have been ginormous...20 lbs. in a month is a huge loss (or perhaps he hacked off a leg?). I'll bet he also caught a 40 inch, 110 lb. large mouth bass in the local swimming hole.

Correction: Diet soda is no calories.

Do some research on GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid) supplements and choose for yourself.

Nobody will admit to buying a Shake Weight?? I didn't, but I did buy one of those exercise trampolines. It was fun, but not much in the way of exercise and nearly a broken ankle more than once.

Place eating at your MFP determined calorie deficit a priority over exercising. Weight loss is the result of a calorie deficit, cardiovascular fitness is the result of working out. Get a food scale and weigh/measure all your intake and log faithfully. Don't be impatient, it will take time. But really focus on the calories.
-
Why the time limit? Just asking because while 2 lbs/week is do-able, it's also very hard to sustain as far as a calorie deficit is concerned. What happens after the month? It takes a while to learn new eating habits and to make lifestyle changes; do you want this weight off temporarily or is weight loss a journey you'd…

Diet Coke contains caffeine, which can cause headaches. One of the amino acids that makes up Aspartame is phenylalanine, and some people are sensitive to it in the same manner that some are sensitive/allergic to gluten. Beyond that, there's nothing wrong with Aspartame. So many people jump to conclusions that it's what…

I take daily probiotics (and eat yogurt) due to a history with IBS. I find they do keep me, um, solid. However I still have acid reflux due to the acidic fruits and veggies I consume. I buy mine at WalMart.

Just to add...when I first started counting calories, I, like a lot of people, started with too aggressive a weight loss goal (2 lb/week). I found that I was TANKING all of my runs and workouts because the calories were too low. At a less aggressive weight loss rate, I had more energy. Something to consider. Also, open…

I tried it several years ago. I hated it. In my experience (and I've lost 20 pounds), nothing works better than weighing & measuring your food, logging faithfully, and doing fun & enjoyable exercise. Save your money and use MFP for free! Also there are great workout plans for free on YouTube if you're interested. Otherwise…

Yes -- have patience! Keep on keepin' on. You say that you're watching what you eat - to what extent? Are you weighing and measuring everything that goes into your mouth? If not, that's something you can do to ensure the most accurate calorie counts. If not, ask yourself what Shaun T would say.... "come on, let's…
