I'm with the others; get a kitchen food scale and weigh the heck out of everything. You may be surprised at how much you're actually eating. I love breakfast cereal and previously would pour myself a large bowl of whatever; now that I weigh it out, I'm shocked to learn that one of my favorites was over 400 calories per…

I too, like my bacon extra crispy! Welcome!

The "Be Freakin' Brutally Honest Diet" brought to you by my food scale. Having it has opened my eyes to the realities of what and how much I'm consuming. Sometimes I cannot believe how much I used to eat.

I've never eaten anything that was pregnant (I don't think so, anyway)!

I heartily second those suggesting PB2; I like it because it's very versatile - you can mix it in its powdered form into shakes, etc., or put a little water in it and make peanut butter to your preferred consistency. I like to make it creamy and spread it onto apple slices for a snack.

Oh, I should add that this marathon I'm doing is in October of next year.
-
I anticipate finishing a full marathon in a little more than 5 hours. My current half times have been around 2:20. I've cut a little more than 10 minutes off my first HM time. My current mileage is low because I wanted to rest for a while, mentally and physically, after my last half. I'm doing about 10-15 a week now, with…

Yah, don't waste your money. They are all gimmicks. Try increasing foods with protein and fiber. Protein-rich meals keep me fuller longer.

Where the weight comes off is entirely determined by genetics. It's frustrating but it's the way it is. I'm tall and lean, but genetically my family has always carried a good deal of belly flab (we used to call it a pot belly). I've lost about 20 pounds over a year and a half, but the belly fat is still there. I'd have to…

If the headaches are new, maybe you've set too aggressive a goal; maybe you're dehydrated; maybe it's hormones? If they are constant and not relieved by anything, get a medical evaluation.

What?? No locally grown food in Boston? Kelly's Roast Beef, North End cannolis, chowdah!! There's plenty of locally grown food, LOL! From a fellow MassHole.

Turn off/get away from electronics, including TV, at least a half hour before bed. Do something relaxing *before* you go to bed, such as drink a cup of tea while sitting somewhere quietly (if that's possible in your household situation). Meditation is good, or just thinking of hopes and dreams. Practice some deep breathing…

The kitchen scale is really an eye-opener. I've been grossly underestimating some of the little things that I never even thought about weighing/measuring because I didn't think they made an appreciable difference, such as my morning coffee! I use half & half and didn't realize how much I was actually using. It turned out…

I do something a little different with protein powder; I usually use chocolate, so I mix it in with Greek yogurt, usually vanilla or plain. It takes a while to mix but the result is something that looks (and tastes!) like chocolate mousse. Then I put fresh berries or whatever into it. It's awesome and very protein packed.

I use a WalMart brand drink enhancer that has Stevia as the sweetener; it's the only thing that gets me to drink enough water. I just am not motivated enough to drink plain water unless I've been working out/running. I have flavored water with all my meals. I have no side effects and feel it's better to hydrate that way…

First of all, counting calories is only as good as your method of measuring the calories; in other words, are you guesstimating or weighing everything with a food scale? You are probably eating more than you think. Get a food scale if you haven't already. Secondly, two weeks is not enough time to really see change. Weight…

= no fun. There's never going to be a time that I'll do that to my body. Doing so will open the flood gates of binging once the 21 days is up (seriously I wouldn't make it to day 2).

You guys have some yummy breakfasts! I didn't take a pic of it, but I had three eggs scrambled with chicken apple sausage cut up and mixed in, plus two slices of wheat toast with strawberry jam. And coffee. Always coffee. Never without coffee!!!!

I use protein powder as a shake (I add all kinds of fun stuff) to help me get enough protein. I buy whey protein isolate powder from WalMart and feel it's pretty cost effective. I'll add stuff to the shake like a frozen banana, almond milk, canned pumpkin, frozen berries, etc. It makes a nice snack or meal at times. I've…

Weigh everything you eat with a food scale. Chances are you're underestimating caloric intake and perhaps even overestimating caloric burn. It's better to overestimate intake and underestimate burn. 2 lbs/week is also an aggressive goal and many people find it's too frustrating right out of the gate. Perhaps scale it back…

DO NOT expect miracles. Slow weight loss is permanent weight loss. Don't get frustrated if you don't see any "results" in two or three weeks. Get a food scale and weigh/measure everything; don't just go by package caloric counts. Don't set an overly aggressive weight loss goal initially, that may leave you frustrated.…

I have, using mashed potatoes as the crust.

Holy cow, what haven't I tried?? Thing is, I've never had a ton of weight to lose, but nevertheless I still tried like heck. I did Slim Fast (yuck!!), the cabbage soup diet (ate one bowl and tossed it), Herbalife, Shakeology, 3-day cleanses (hangry!!)... After trying each one of these I would end up so frustrated that I'd…

Dropping your calorie goal will more than likely lead to increased frustration. GIVE IT TIME! What constitutes a few weeks? That's not nearly enough time to see results. Long-lasting weight loss is SLOW. Don't get caught up in the hype that you can/should lose 10 pounds in two weeks. That's merely designed to sell stuff.…

This is true! I once dated a guy who also had a lot of gas. He'd howl and cackle with laughter every time he let fly (and generally make a big scene). He was in his 40's. I asked him why he did this and he said, "farts are funny!" I replied, "maybe to a ten year old." Needless to say that relationship is long over!

AMEN and AMEN!!!

I find doctors to be pretty clueless on this issue. I do take probiotics. It's kind-of a familial thing too (my brother and I have had some righteous contests!). I'd love to get the underwear that turns your fart smell into peppermint. Then I can just tell everyone I chew a lot of gum.

Thank you!!!
