Actually it turns out that it was all inflammation and water weight

Everyone has to experiment to find out what works best for them, but for me the missing puzzle piece was a high protein breakfast. It was a game changer in terms of keeping me fuller longer.
-
Interestingly enough, before my recent knee replacement surgery they had me drin2 shakes a day for 5 days before surgery and 5 days after surgery to boost my protein levels. They kept me full longer than I thought and the protein helped with healing. I’m continuing with one per day. I do better with higher protein

Welcome Melissa. This site will be very helpful to you. Lots of smart, wise and supportive people. Having friends on this site has helped me a lot.

Congratulations Michelle. What a major accomplishment. Keep up the good work.

So glad you found this group. Welcome. Congratulations on your success. I have schizoaffective disorder and find medication and therapy, as well as giving myself grace, has really helped me.

Everyone is different but After 5 years of maintaining there are chocolate based foods I simply can’t handle. In my case Better to avoid them entirely. It’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make to maintain.

It’s really hard for me to lose x amount of weight by x time. Is it possible to move your surgery back? That would take some pressure off you.
-
Having MFP friends who support me has been very helpful. I suggest looking through the forums and if you see someone’s answers are relatable, consider sending them a friend request.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Good idea to eat at maintenance. I was required to drink 2 Boost protein drinks 5 days before and 5 days after so that was 300 calories per day. Can’t really walk long distances yet but looking forward getting back to that after I’ve healed.

Congratulations!

If I eat a high protein breakfast I stay on my eating plan a lot easier.

High protein breakfast was a game changer.

For me it’s harder to maintain than lose. Scale doesn’t move. It’s a different mindset in that the reward is not observable change. Also covid brought on lots of stress to some of us resulting in comfort eating to soothe ourselves.

I pack jerky for a snack.

It’s pretty clear that the whopper is a self soothing response to a stressful event. It’s a symptom that you might want to address through therapy.

My lightbulb moment came when I realized my anxiety connection to binges. When I’m under a lot of stress, my anxiety increases . The more stress the more bingeing. My solution, which of course isn’t for everyone, is to manage anxiety by reducing stress as much as possible. That includes anti anxiety medication.
-
I too have been a binger for over half a century. I’ve managed to lose weight but still can’t have certain foods (I’m looking at you chocolate chips) in the house.
-
I normally walk an hour a day but the air quality is so bad we have to stay indoors. Also my gym is closed due to Covid. Struggling
-
After reading that a high protein breakfast helps some people stay full longer I tried it and stay full until dinner
-
It’s not for everyone but I find a high protein meat and eggs breakfast keeps me full until late afternoon or dinner

Yes mental illness is a brain chemistry problem. A psychiatrist is your best bet to get a good diagnosis and proper treatment.

I’m in. Especially with the temptation of the holidays we need each other

Thanks for the info on Noom. One of my friends is on it but hasn’t lost much weight. So they helped with binges?
-
Great! Thanks
-
Has anyone else noticed how inactive this group is?
-
Congrats on your loss and good job thinking through sustainability
-
How do you send a friend request? I’m looking for friends with compulsive overeating challenges. Thanks. Kathy

Bread is a binge trigger for me so I avoid it
