Eating predominantly "high calorie healthy" and not exercising is what helped me to be 40+lbs overweight... So, good luck to her! Sometimes people aren't ready to listen...

Especially be careful of not counting fruit or anything you eat with the veggies (cooking oils, dressing, etc.)... If you skate too close to your calorie allowance and eat exercise calories back, not logging veggies (even plain, raw ones) could prevent you from achieving a deficit...

Well, I do think that it gets a little harder as you age... Last time I had 40 lbs to lose, I was 6 years younger... Still doable now, of course, but seems it was easier to drop a quick 20 or so 10 years ago, and even easier 20 years ago... In my experience, anyway...

I would add a 5th: OP dropped this off to get everyone stirred up!

Oh my - too funny! I would choose both- do Zumba to earn wine calories!!!

Listen to your body - sleep, rest, eat soup, drink plenty of fluids, repeat- you should feel good as new in a few days and can carry on... Otherwise, you could prolong your illness. Keeping up with logging food should prevent set-backs...

Greek yogurt! Yum! 100 calories & 12g protein...

If you're hungry or lethargic between meals, go for it! I usually have a piece of fruit mid afternoon, but I am not hungry between breakfast and lunch… As the others said, do what works for you!

This is my approach/philosophy, too. To gain the weight, I believe I was actually ignoring my intuition that I should not be eating as much as my husband, who is 8 inches taller than me! Yikes!

Huh... Fried food will ensure that someone won't suffer the deleterious effects of low caloric intake. Cool - could use some fries w/mayo for sure! :) Lighten up, folks, was just saying that I personally wouldn't recommend eating something, anything, just so you can get up to the magic number of 1200, whether or not you…
-
Also, it was never established how tall the 0P is, nor was it established whether or not she is grossly under estimating her caloric intake…

"By eating below 1200"

Yes, ok - got it - "over time" 1180 calories a day will undoubtedly have catastrophic effects, but 1205 won't... Regardless of what someone's caloric needs are.

I second this... I'm trying to pay more attention to my internal cues, and eat when I'm hungry, within my calorie goals, rather than just eating because the food is there, or I'm bored, etc. Also hoping to not have to track of calories for the rest of my life… Though, I will if I need to – just hoping I won't have to!
-
Very confused by the responses here… If you're full, why would you try to eat more (isn't that often how people become overweight in the first place, by ignoring internal cues)? And why would you try to eat more calorie-dense foods if you are not hungry and are trying to lose weight? You're going to force down some PB…

A good laugh!

Hmmm - and here I was thinking just the opposite- that "Americans west too much" - interesting... Ha ha - jk

I try to only have grains as a treat on the weekend- some sushi or the like. My carbs during the week are made up of fruit (even bananas), vegetables, and dairy. The reason I stay away from grains during the week is because I tend to over-do, and also don't find them as satisfying long-term as proteins w/veg... However,…

I started around 190 and am 5'4" - 18 pants/jeans were very tight - now I'm at 183 and 18 is just right. If I lose the way I usually do, I'll be ready for 16 after losing another 10. New sizes come after around 15 lbs lost. My goal is 145, and I'm a 10/12 at that size - I have big hips/bum, and have a really hard time…

$200-250/week - my husband and I & our 12 year old son - all raw ingredients for meals - except for my Greek yogurt (not including going out, which we do a few times a month). Could eat healthy for less by shopping sale meat/fish/veg...

I make a savory oatmeal that is really tasty… I use the old-fashioned oats and cook them with 1% milk and a large handful of cherry tomatoes cut in half, a little bit of salt-and-pepper, and a little bit of dried basil. Then I top it with a little bit of grated Romano cheese and an over easy egg. You may want to talk to…

Also, don't eat back all the calories earned if you're using MFP to guesstimate calories burned in workouts...

Stay hydrated, make sure you incorporate fats into your diet (meaning, don't eat a really low fat diet), lose slowly, and generously moisturize your skin after every shower... Beyond that, I think it's genetic and age related... Good luck!

Wow! Is it guaranteed to work??!! ;)

Every morning, but I only log new lows, not every minor fluctuation...

I despise all of those magazines catering to women- so vapid, insulting, worthless... My mother got me a subscription to one of those women's fashion magazines, I think because she thinks I need to pay more attention to how I dress, or whatever. What a waste of paper and money – I recycle every issue without even opening…

I am trying to re-train myself to eat when I'm hungry, and not eat when I am not hungry… I stay under my calorie goal either way. Even if it is just slightly under… I only eat my exercise calories if I am hungry. I'm trying to consciously not eat "just because". I'm avoiding empty calories, as they don't seem to fill me up…

Chicken & fish are great sources of lean protein- grilled, baked...

Short women, even with having a lot to lose need to be accurate or the scale movement is painfully slow. Especially if they're older. That's me, all the way - short, fat, and old! Well, I can change one out of those...
