You aren't eating enough and your body is going into "Starvation Mode" You're building muscle and it weighs more than fat... Just kidding. Make sure you're accurately measuring your calorie intake. Accuracy is key. I assume you're counting your salad dressing and mayonnaise and the oil you cook with...all of it counts. I…

I've considered the possibility that my weight loss kind of puts it in their face that they could lose weight, too. In essence, you might be wiping out one of their excuses.

I have Crohn's as well, although I've somehow managed to stay overweight or obese most of my life. (My father is a more typical case---he's generally been very thin his whole life.) As you know, it's imperative to pay attention to your body. Some foods will work and others will make you feel awful. Some foods will work in…

It is possible. That being said, be careful to not focus too much on your deadline! It can be a great motivator, absolutely. Just don't let "70 pounds lost by December" become "70 pounds lost by December or Nothing" What I'm saying is, what happens if December comes around and you've only lost 50 pounds? Well, you've lost…

It's possible but it's tough. I was losing between 16 and 22 pounds last year, starting at 286.

What a bunch of loosers.

Back when I was a boy, we were constantly being chased by dinosaurs and saber-toothed cats. Farming wasn't even invented yet. We hunted rabbits and pterodactyls and we would pick berries if we found some. There were no refrigerators so any mammoths we killed would spoil pretty fast. In short, getting food was tough! Our…

It's always worse when it's the little ones. I'm sorry to hear about that. You can let yourself have some time to grieve. It's ok. It's only been three or four days---you'll get back on track. Just be aware of what you're doing and remind yourself it's only temporary. And, I don't mean this to sound horrible, but the…

I've not used phentermine, but I did use phendemetrazine for about six months and lost over 80 pounds. It was definitely an effective tool.

What goal are you trying to reach? Fat loss? If that's the case, it's far easier to NOT put calories into your body than it is to put calories in and then burn them off. However, if you're trying to burn excess calories with jogging and exercise, it WILL help. But you must be realistic. You probably won't be able to burn…

That's incredible!

Good work!

Nice work, bud! I've gone from 286 to ~200 since January and am now tentatively entering the 'bulk' phase. Thanks for sharing.

I posted a photo album on FB back in early September with this introduction:

Also, Kyle, at 18 years old, your bones have not completely finished their development. I grew two inches taller from my 18th birthday to my 22nd. When you cut out calories, make sure to not cut out the vitamins and nutrients you need. Cutting out Mountain Dew and pizza would be better than cutting out milk and eggs, for…

Everyone is different to some degree, so I can only offer you what works for me: Be careful to not associate DIFFERENT with BAD. Some people taste foods that are different and assume the food tastes bad. "That doesn't taste like fried chicken strips, or burgers, or potatoes, or salt...it must taste bad!" Not true! Try…

Is phentermine different than phendimetrazine? I've used that to help me lose close to 100 pounds.

Oh! And air pop popcorn. Before I got my air popper I used a stovetop pan. You'll need to use a bit of oil, which is 'expensive' calorie-wise, but overall it's a pretty decent snack.

Everyone is different, so just poke around the grocery store and look for things that might work for you. I have had success by cooking large pots of stuff and portioning it out to freeze. Chicken and rice---in my area, a whole chicken is about $6.00 and the rice is super cheap. I can make a week's worth of meals from one…

Yeah, I have to concur with the others who say your deficit isn't quite deep enough to show any significant fat loss in a two week period. If your maintenance level is 1750-1850 calories per day and you are aiming at 1700, you can easily go over by forgetting to measure a tablespoon of olive oil.

Nothin' to it but to do it. There's a wealth of information here, plenty of folks willing to help, and some great motivational success stories. Best of luck! Brandon

Hey there, Jennifer! 40 pounds in 14 months isn't bad at all! You've taken a great step in joining MFP. Haha, now all you have to do is use it! One thing that helps, and yes I know it sounds silly...talk to yourself. I tell myself every day, "This is important to me." You don't have to believe it...just say it to the…

Hey, thanks, everyone. I've still got a long way to go before I get where I want to be---it's just that being lighter than I was after Basic has been a HUGE and seemingly far-off prospect for such a long time... It's...well...it's weird!
-
I'm excited for you! I had my Day 1 not too long ago... Before long, you'll look up and six months have passed and you'll be proud of what you've done and all the work will be worth it. When you start to lose motivation, let us know...we'll bump you up! As of this morning, I am down 80 pounds since January. I believe in…

I think body fat distribution is comparable enough between most people to make the estimates fairly close. There will always be outliers, but the majority will be close estimates.
-
I will have to research what those tests are---they are not familiar to me. This morning I had a friend measure around my belly (what the test refers to as 'waist') and plugged that number and my weight into an online calculator. Came to 18.5%. You have to measure at your belly-button, though. At 180 pounds, your belly…

What did happen? BMI chart says someone at 180 pounds measuring 5' 6.5" would be overweight by about 20 pounds. I cannot estimate your BFP without your waist measurement, though. I am curious how your case turned out.
-
Yeah, quick and easy. It's amazing to me how something that simple can give your very close estimates in the overwhelming majority of cases. During entrance processing for the military, they can use BMI to quickly separate most of the recruits into who is 'ready' and who needs a second look. I said previously, the 1 in 10…

I mean, this is the entire thing. This is all the BMI does.

I'm claiming that it's useful. I'm not skinny nor in denial. You can now update your experience.
