That's a little tragic...

Christina is correct, though I have to assume a healthier gut would support a healthier flora throughout the body? Functional medicine very much supports the notion that a healthier gut leads to a healthier body in general, including reduced inflammation and skin reactions. Research is even showing that taking a probiotic…

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health-and-fitness/health/what-are-some-healthy-gluten-free-grains-besides-brown-rice-and-quinoa/article19488668/?service=mobile Just in case that's helpful. Nice to have some grains in the diet still!

I am dairy free and almost completely gluten free. Welcome :-)

I was dreading it at first too, but I started feeling so much better that my attitude towards it quickly improved. I cheat occassionally, but all around it's become an easily sustainable diet. Good luck at restaurants, though. Chipotle is the only place I go, and surely that has some vinegar in the salsa. Im down 15 lbs in…

Welcome!

Welcome! You are making such a wise choice in not only tracking the quantity, but more importantly, the quality of your food. I am so impressed with all of your active learning on this subject! Another movie you may really feel is eye opening is the movie Fed Up. I follow the anti-candida diet, which basically cuts out…

Potato chips and the occassional gluten free cream puff- theyre just so good!

Humans are supposed to eat 24 grams of sugar per day or less. Sugar stimulates appetite, promotes lethargy and turns into fat, if we overdo it. Hence, the reason to limit fruit.
-
Couldn't agree more. I feel frightened by some of the main board conversations and recommendations. So glad to have some other clean, whole food eaters for solidarity!
-
advice warning: Cut down your sugars to 24 grams or less a day and eliminate processed carbs. Its miraculous how cravings just vanish. I know it sounds like hell (my fav food was basically a bagel with butter), but I feel like a million bucks and have virtually no cravings anymore. Cravings are addiction, literally.

I read your story and my heart aches for so many reasons: I am the daughter of a midwife and I walked through an intensely traumatic and dangerous birth June 27th-29th of 2013, just as you too would have been bringing your sweet babe into the world. It was horrendous, and I left it physically and emotionally scarred, but…

I also take a pre and probiotic daily, plus DGL with meals, to support digestion.
-
Yup, for sure. I follow the anti-candida doet, which is super similar. Lost 12 lbs in the first month without any calorie counting or increased exercise. It was clearly what my body needed.

I eat no dairy, no gluten and low sugar, so my breakfasts are often eggs, a lean meat (such as turkey bacon or sausage), or oatmeal with apples, cashews, cinnamon and a bit of coconut manna. All are filling and easy to stay on track with. A banana and an ounce of cashews is also a nice filler if you're on the go.
-
Agreed as well. I've had great success with the anti-candida diet, and am a very clean eater (other than the occasional treat, of course).

Hey! Fellow mom losing baby weight. I was about 50 lbs over my goal weight after her birth, and I've now lost 12 of that. My advice would be to keep the omega 3 fats (nuts, salmon, avocado) and eat meats, veggies and low fruit (as sugars are being tied to fat production). I went dairy and sugar free and that made a world…
-
What a frustrating feeling! One idea would be to reduce sugar intake to 24 g per day (the actual international recommendation) and cut out dairy, which is inflammatory. I lost 12 lbs with those changes alone.

My husband had a slow turn to the greener side as well, but he's really come around! Tonight I made asparagus with a white truffle aioli and lentil burgers with guacamole and everybody ate well, including our toddler. The lentil burger with all the usual fixings may be an okay entrance into the meatless world for him. I'm…

More than half of people have mild dairy allergies. I went off of dairy and now when I eat it I feel arthritic and sick. There's no nutrition in dairy that you can't get elsewhere. It's tough to give up, but can really pay out. And this is coming from a woman from WI who has ha their share of fine cheeses... My mother was…

Boiled* How bout u guys?

Butter and cheese. I'm originally from WI, so being totally off of dairy is utterly (no pun intended) bewildering for some of my old Wisco friends. I also always loved toast and pasta, and mourn their absence. Worth it, though.
-
Same. I used the line that "I swore too much" an unconvincing amount. Didn't trust the priest to not judge me or be confidential. Ironically I am now a mental health therapist. Lol.
-
Congratulations! That's so amazing. If you want some extra inspiration, consider the movie Fed Up. It's really contributed to a great change in my diet, and has helped me be so much more strategic about what I feed my daughter.
-
Consider watching the movie Fed Up. It's super eye opening and may be helpful in keeping your hard earned pound off. Welcome back!

Devils advocate: don't do any- they're filled with synthetic chemicals and fake flavors. Instead, eat more protein in your diet. Throw an avocado in there or soak some cashews and add them. YUM.
-
I'm also dairy free and low carb, and an awesome substitute for missed creamy-ness is coconut milk. It's really versatile and makes me less sad about no longer being able to use creamer or have cheese. When I'm craving that stuff, (which has grown increasingly rare) an avocado or a handful of raw cashews really helps me.

Chickpea salad, salmon, eggs and turkey sausage, brussel sprouts and green beans are all quick favorites.

Sorry about the typos- on my phone.

I am 28 and underwent a dangerous birth I'd my daughter, including an infection that resulted in heavy doses of antibiotics. My gut health was totally destroyed, and no diets were working for me (including completely clean eating) until I started taking pre and probiotics, DGL with meals and grapefruit seed extract to kill…
