  • I have the Fenix 5 and it is my first Garmin watch so I can't compare to older models but it only vibrates during my run (the beep can be turned off) and the too fast/too slow buzzes are slightly different so I don't even have to look at my wrist. I really love the thing although I know someone who works at Garmin and I…
  • I like the warm rain of the monsoons, great to run and play in. Cold rain is well...cold
  • @PastorVincent the mud here in AZ doesn't smell. Nothing rots out here and the dirt is very course/sandy so it makes for a very clean mud.
  • I'm doing the Spartan Beast. I usually do the Spartan here in AZ in February but this year we will be buying a minivan so I'll have to wait and see what the budget looks like. Don't be nervous, they are a ton of fun and everyone is out there to help if you need it. Even the running part isn't bad because you run for a bit,…
  • I'm behind but I've been out for work. 130 miles this month with a Spartan Race at the end. Got rid of any sort of taper since this run is now part of training for a longer run in January.
  • I honestly wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes something dramatic. My right calf is strong than my left, my right bicep is stronger than my left but my left tricep is stronger then my right. Little imbalances happen and most are due to biomechanical issues that we have little control over. You can do isolation…
  • Bodyweight training really does go a long way especially if you work on different progressions to make things harder (one arm push ups, pistol squats, etc) and you can't go wrong with pull ups. You will start fighting muscle economy once your runs start getting to a certain length/amount per week but you'll have a ways to…
  • I'm in with 131 miles this month. Looking forward to some fun running.
  • @PastorVincent Rolling seems to do more than anything for me and I'll spot stretch if something starts to get really tight (calves/hips usually) but I'm not regular with it. I used to stretch a lot (gymnast days) but I think I would call that flexibility over stretching.
  • @_nikkiwolf_ I've never had an issue with hand/wrist weights but I've also never used them for long distances. Just watch your posture since they will fatigue your shoulder faster and tend to make you want to slouch.

  • @skippygirlsmom and @Elise4270 I would like to add in that neither one of you two are old compared to the people around here and it is usually the old guys that are the offenders. @MobyCarp is the right age group but is much better shape, we would need like three of him.
  • I live in an area with a lot of really old out of shape people, can we please raise the fine on #5? Side question: Has anyone donated plasma and how did it affect your running? I know you get most everything back including the red blood cells but I have 15 miles to cover the following day so I'm not sure how much it is…
  • Does anyone use/have opinions on trek poles? I'm eyeballing the thought of getting some as my trails are becoming...trailier? (is that a word). Anyhow they are expensive so I want to research the idea a little more and this is a great repository of..."information" so I'm looking for some input.
  • @Orphia how rude, they called you a jogger :o Congrats though :)
  • I eat a lot but mine is open, I'll also pass on any recipes you have questions about.
  • I was in the mountains for a week with no internet or cell service (it was bliss) but I'm 27 pages behind....so I'm just skipping ahead. Since some of my August miles slipped into July my goal is 130.
  • Survey Questions: (I don't actually race so all these are just based off of general running) Favorite season to run: Summer - I actually love the brutality of the heat, I plan mid day runs in the summer Time of day to run: Early morning (except for my mid day summer runs, I really dislike running in the evenings) Favorite…
  • @sarahmchugh07 my wife uses the exact same lace pattern as KatieJane for the same reasons. It seems to work very well for feet that swell after the action starts.
  • I'm on Topamax (low dose for migraines) and boy oh boy is it an appetite killer. I could pack away 4000 calories without issues now I struggle with my maintenance of 2600-3000. Be careful with the spacey felling it can give you as well (like standing up too fast but constant) as it has caused me a few missed steps here and…
  • I have the Garmin Fenix 5 and I'm loving the thing. It has it's own gps and I use it a lot for trail running. The bread crumb feature is very nice since some of the trail systems out here aren't marked very well. Beyond that it is just a really good rugged fitness tracker with all the bells and whistles. If it wasn't for…
  • @MobyCarp thank you for the insight, I feel better about getting them now. @zdyb23456 yeah I have a pair of belagas that are holding up well but they are a little too short for my tastes. I'm heading to a REI to try on the Darn Tough socks today.
  • Whats the verdict on Darn Tough socks? I'm looking for socks, I use my socks for both running and everyday wear so I need something that can take the abuse. I'm getting tired of having to replace my socks every couple months because I've pounded holes in them. This would be my first time stepping out of a mid range prices…
  • I have a 2L orange mud one and it does great. They aren't too big either way and it holds enough for me to run 16 miles through the desert and make it out the other side before hitting empty. At 5'9" I would call the 2L extremely comfortable for my size, it fits all around. The chest is getting close to being on the tight…
  • I accidentally read what was in hot dogs once :s
  • To jump in on the hot dog argument. A good hot dog doesn't exist. A hot dog should be tossed to the dog and replaced with a brat or other good sausage and then you can argue condiments which shouldn't go past mustard and kraut (depending on the sausage other allowances can be made).
  • Tucson here too (Oro Valley)! Add me if you want, lots of good people here, I've got a bunch of AZ people too.

  • Trying for 134 this month. Made last month's 115 and I've got some longer runs/more times this month so I'm optimistic.
  • @PastorVincent I don't know what you are talking about, I always breath two in two out....except when I don't. Honestly I'm usually 3 in 2 out but it's not like I get really bored and start counting my breathing patterns or anything.
  • @MobyCarp After a few days for learning each other the Fenix 5 has done really well for a wrist based HRM (including some HIIT based workouts) and it can be over ridden with the chest strap very easily. Just pair it up and it is ready to roll, watch gps and strap HR.
