Garmin also makes a little pod thing that clips to the back of your shorts that can pull the same data if you don't like wearing a chest strap. I'm eyeballing one now that I've upgraded watches.

South Phoenix (aka Tucson) here

I'm tan with a decent amount of arm hair and they do ok. I have to snug it down when running and even then it sometimes just uses my cadence. I have a fitbit blaze that did pretty good and I just switched to the Fenix 5 so we are getting to know each other but it seems alright so far. Like @autumnblade75 said though they…

Got my Fenix 5 in last night and took it out for a run this morning. I'm still trying to figure a few things out but I had issues with the heart rate monitor (I think) during my run. It had my heart rate up really high (157 bpm for a 10 min/mile) and I don't think it was right. I'm pretty sure I have a decent placement and…

Basically what musicfan68 said. You go there and do you and no one will really ever bother you. Most gym regulars who are there for fitness will only give encouragement to newcomers who are there to make a change. Also don't be afraid to ask for advice or help with doing something new, no one will look down on you (we all…

Just in case anyone is wondering. If you are out for training (for work) and can't check in for a week you will be 900 posts (and 26 pages) behind. I hope I didn't miss any good pictures cause I'm really just giving up on the idea of catching up and just starting from here.

Well it is official, I've ordered a Fenix 5. I figured it can do anything I might even consider trying (although I really just lift and run) so I might as well go all out and spend the extra. Thanks for all the tips, now to cut the cord on my phone dependency....although I probably still carry it for Zombies, Run! :)
-
Thanks for all the input everyone, like many of you have stated my phone will probably take a back seat once I've gotten used to the watch but it has been my GPS source so I'm just used to it. As it stands I'm looking at the Fenix 5 or the FR 735XT, still reading up on the DC Rainmaker's reviews though.

Fitness watch question for everyone: My watch it dying and I'm looking to get a new one, I'm leaning towards a Garmin but I'm not sure which type. I run with my phone so GPS isn't an issue but it looks like most/all their watches have it anyways. I'm a little concerned at how much it shortens the battery life but if I can…

My wife and I do basically the same thing as @MobyCarp , we have like 5 checking accounts and 3-4 savings accounts where all the money gets passed around. If you do it right the process is very easy and has not fees or anything like that and it keeps all the categories separate so you can't pull extra from one by accident.

@Elise4270 you could snort a pixie stix, the blood vessels in the nose rapidly absorb things and allow them quick access to the brain.
-
@Elise4270 Another thing to add that you really need to take into account when doing exercise in a deficit is that your recovery time is longer. Not only do you not have less energy stores at the front end but it takes longer to repair all the damage that happens during the run making your muscles grumpier for the next…

I'll be finishing out the last few miles to my goal during my lunch run. While I won't be increasing the mileage next month the temps are increasing so that should be enough of a strain on my endurance to keep things the same.
-
Doing 115 miles again this month, letting the added distance sink in along with all this wonderful heat. Sticking with my daily double on Wednesday and I'll be upping my long run towards the end of the month (I think it barely makes it onto this month's schedule)
-
Thanks everyone I'll just stay the course then and watch my form.
-
@_nikkiwolf_ yeah I'm not too worried about hitting the magic 180 but I am showing mild signs of over-striding which I'm worried will add up as I increase mileage. I will just follow the addition of 5% until things feel pretty good.

So looking at cadence and all these articles I need to pick mine up. From the looks of my runs I do a 158-160 spm and that should be faster from what I'm reading. The articles suggest using a metronome to work you pace and that should work well since I don't usually listen to music and can cue it up. Does anyone else have…

Hi from next door (AZ).

Pfft I was 21, like I would have listened anyways. Beyond that very specific stock advice

Then restart it
-
@7lenny7 In my own defense I come to a dead stop at stop lights and just glare at anyone trying to turn right daring them to cut in front of me.
-
Made my goal last month and continuing the mileage increase this month. My goal will be 115 miles.
-
Late checking in but I made my monthly goal and unlike most of the country we had beautiful weather. Got my last few miles out of the way on the trail near the house.
-
I'm going to continue the 5/3/1 workout. While I'm a bit off from the month (starting deload week now) I'm going to try and get another two rotations out of this program before finding another. I'm also adding another running day to the mix (4 miles on Thursday) to help prep for my Spartan Beast in October making my goal…
-
@7lenny7 Nice pre-report between you and now @MNLittleFinn I want to look for an ultra to run...I've never run anywhere close to that far but gotta start somewhere.
-
@jessicalferrara I also got a cheap pair off of Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Photive-PH-BTE70-Bluetooth-Sweatproof-Headphones/dp/B00XZHQAMC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493309591&sr=8-2&keywords=photive+bluetooth+headphones) and I sweat on the a lot (looooot) and they have been through the washer twice and still doing great.
-
Add in another run day and not break. Continue lifting and making progress towards my goals.
-
I have the fitbit blaze and it tracks my heartrate so I would call it more accurate. I have the two setup where the exercise adjustment comes from fitbit but the base calorie number is mfp.
-
@MNLittleFinn from your shoe picture it looks a lot like mine. I get the wear from when I walk in my running shoes (I tend to scuff my heels). I've never had it give me an issue though because I land in different places depending on if I'm running or walking.
