I'm a big fan of green tea! Love it. And, when I drink it, I'm usually replacing decaf coffee with some sort of cream in it or a latte. So, when I drink green tea, there some other dietary changes happening: 1) I'm not consuming cream or milk, and 2) I am adding a small amount of caffeine. I do seem to lose weight at times…

I totally understood what you were trying to say (it's a relief to see I'm not the only person who thinks one word and somehow manages to type another). I'm going to suggest you meant a low/slow stride rate is hard on joints *because* it is sometimes linked with a longer stride length. To fix the problem, runners are…

I too am a life tracker/data junky and have been tracking training HR with watches for years now. With all the data, I've gotten a pretty good idea of my own training zones and HRmax. And, I've found my HRmax differs by activity (cycling vs running vs rowing, etc.), and my HRmax is above average so all the online formulas…

all the above suggestions are great. I'd add bicycling to the mix.

This could be caused by tight calves. Check online for a "calf muscle flexibility test". Google Images pulls up a bunch of good stuff. Ideally, a PT (physical therapist) would help with this. Less than ideal, find a couple of good books on stretching and beginning running (free from your library).

no matter how far I'm going, I always hate the first 1 to 2 miles the most. Grrr. all miles after the first 2 are cake :) Ideally, I'd run on a slight downhill slope for my first two miles. And, on an interesting trail instead of a routine route. Makes those 2 beastly "warm up" miles easier and go by quicker so I can get…

I like to do cardio before lifting (like running or riding my bike to the gym). It seems to help warm up my muscles (and clear my mind) which is nice before lifting. When I take my bike or run, I get a bit more cardio (or a cool down) on my way home--although, if I ran to the gym, I might be walking home depending upon how…

You sound perfectly fine and healthy to me. So, you have a little extra weight. Who cares? You can run for 30 minutes (which is more than a lot of people I know can do). You bike to work, walk instead of driving. And, you're not stuck doing something you don't enjoy (daily routines). You were able to lose the weight before…

You could consider easing into it. Do you know how many calories per day you ate before starting MFP? Just by decreasing from your starting point, you'll definitely be moving in the right direction. One thought would be to start at 1,500 per day for a couple of weeks, drop to 1,400, then 1,300, until you reach a point…

Yes. I have heard of this theory. It was popular within the bodybuilding community a number of years ago (perhaps not all of them, but a group). One of the more well-known women bodybuilders was a big advocate and believed the cheat day, under specific guidelines, was (her theory not mine) beneficial for increasing…

Amazing places--both of you. I had the luck of being able to drive thru both areas when I was younger (Alberta Jasper/Banff and thru the Idaho panhandle into MT) and have always wanted to go back when I had more time to play. Thanks for sharing--makes me want to start planning a trip.

When I was in college, I worked for a sleep specialist. Here are some ideas to try: Do you run or exercise in the evening? if so, try running earlier in the day (like at lunch time). Try to take one or two days off from running every week--walk or do strength training those days instead. Also, don't drink any caffeine…

great job! Looks like you have had a lot of success already. I wouldn't worry too much about ratios as long as your energy levels are good. There's a whole lot more to food than macros. Just recently I did a quick survey of research on this topic (causes of increased waist circumference/methods of decreasing waist…

Love the pictures. Running with a 4-legged fitness buddy is the highlight of my day. Here's my fitness buddy--he's a sweetheart and loves to run (he's patient with me since he's a lot faster than I am):

Two resources that come to mind for interesting examples of how to modify traditional dessert recipes are: 1. Forks Over Knives The Cookbook. There are around 30 dessert recipes in it. Their focus is plant-based, low sugar (although, they do use maple syrup). 2. Thug Kitchen--while not focused on "nutrition" necessarily,…

Unfortunately, that sounds suspiciously like IBS or what the FODMAPS diet was developed to treat. Often people who have these symptoms (bloating after eating wheat/gluten/etc.) cut out "gluten" (and wheat) and it helps because they are reducing one of the triggers. But, there's a lot more to it than the gluten-free diet…

I just returned "Appetite for Reduction" to the library. It had tons of lighter, vegan recipes. One could probably cook up a few over the weekend and freeze for later.

Nope. Not greasy at all. But I have light textured (but thick) hair that's tended to be on the dry side. Sometimes a styling product will make it feel a little greasy--if I run into that problem, I ditch the product and look for another. And, if I am around smoke (bbq, campfire, smokers), I always want to wash with…

I have pizza and beer 2x per week (sometimes more) and maintain around 118-125 lbs for like, ever. :) No worries, you'll do just fine even if you do eat a few villains of the food world.

I am also a co-washer (just conditioner). I started using a suave naturals (coconut) conditioner based on rec's and haven't changed since. I also mostly air dry wirh a little initial blow drying and am picky about styling products. My hairdresser found a great wash & wear cut for my chin-length curly bob. About 1x per week…

Great Question. Unfortunately, anyone who gives you a specific answer is providing an answer based on their own definition of nutritionally perfect and their preferences and biases. think: I like sugar, therefore, I'm going to identify most with doughnuts diets :) Most science is biased. Any nutrition information…
