  • One thing came to mind as soon as I read your post. 0.5lbs might not sound a lot. Look at this from another perspective. Just 0.5lbs from someone who is maybe already in the 100's somewhere is a lot more % than someone like me in the low 300's. If you are fitting in some exercise I don't see why you couldn't at least try…
  • In my experience, stay away from anything Soya. It interferes with your medication and thyroid function. Try gluten free, many people say that it helps relieve symptoms. Same with milk products sometimes. (Both have helped me) There are also some indications that some raw veggies are not good to eat if you have any thyroid…

  • Just watch out for beer or alcohol calories. Students are known for liking a drink or 10 and it can be too cheap to resist. You can eat healthily but stay away from "healthy" sandwich shops which actually can have more fat and calories than a burger... I agree with the others, you will be walking a lot more and taking…
  • Re T3 Are you taking just one dose? I take 3 doses throughout the day and that has changed over time through trial and error. I can feel it wearing off sometimes, especially when the dose was too low at the beginning. Everyone is different and some people only need a tiny dose but over time mine rose quite a bit. I take…
  • Hi! New Zealander living in Sweden. Started day 1 yesterday... Have A LOT to lose. Not too sore today, so let's see how it goes!
  • I am drinking coffee hoping like hell I can finally go to the loo... this new diet and exercise lark has left me... well... heavier than usual :-) I am considering not weighing myself tomorrow until I can "go".
  • Hi like Cking said above sometimes Cytomel (T3) can help. Sometimes taking only the T4 meds don't work so well for everyone. I put on a massive amount of weight in a very short time, twice! After around 15 years of complaining to my doctors that I still didn't feel well and so on, (it's a very long complicated story), I…
  • With your underactive Thyroid have you had your T3 levels tested as well, not just your TSH? Also next time you are at the docs ask for these tests too if you have not had them: Ferritin, B12 and Vit D + Free T3. It can be really hard to lose weight with a thyroid problem, but sorting out any other underlying problems can…
  • OMG@ Thesatinpumpkin.... I literally sat with my mouth open. WOW just WOW!!!! Also OMG @Luckee_me... you guys are truly inspirational. (I am only up to page 3 of the thread so it's going to take some time to see everyone! To everyone else so far, thanks to you guys posting your pics it really helps newbies like me believe…
  • I am new as well, but I think it means if you have exercised you can then eat back what you have worked off. So if you had eaten up all your 1,200 calories and then you exercised and burned 300, you then have 300 calories to "spend" in your food diary if you want to.
  • I'm interested in finding out too! Especially workouts on DVD etc that you can do at home. I hope you get lots of answers :p
  • From experience I can say AVOID if you have any type of thyroid problem as it is a soy product. I had HUGE problems taking this stuff unaware that it was the shakes and the soy milk I was using causing my meds not to work. I might be the only person to put on weight taking this rubbish.
  • Yes you will be embarrassed. BUT, having been in an abusive marriage till 2000, I was shocked to learn from my friends that what I thought I had covered so well was in fact known by others in our social circle. That many of our mutual friends had stayed friends with us because of me and that they were being supportive by…
  • I am not vegan but I have a favourite website that I use a lot in the summer for the salads and for soup inspiration in the winter. I have tried loads of her recipes and they ROCK. http://vegangela.com/category/vegan-recipes/vegan-salads/ Maybe encourage your friend's new found veganism by helping her find good ideas about…
  • My breakfast is usually 100ml Turkish yog + 200ml unsweetened almond milk + egg protein poweder = shake or another fav is: 200ml-250 ml turkish yog + 1 scoop egg proterin powder + little drizzle of honey. (Usually add blueberries if I remembered to defrost them!)
  • Hi I am in Northern Sweden and choice up here is quite limited, but maybe you might find different choices in different supermarkets? I know that there are the "usual" Greek/Turkish yoghurts here in all the supermarkets and then I found cheaper alternatives also but different brands in each of them. Lidl is one of them…
  • I just teared up.... I am at the start of a very long journey and if I can be even as half as successful as you it will be amazing. Thank you for keeping me on track today. (Edit) Just read your profile and had a full on cry. You are simply inspirational. Now I am going to reach for a tissue instead of a biscuit.
  • AVOID. I did it for a year and even though the lady was a nurse and knew I had an underactive thyroid, she said NOTHING about the product affecting my medication. The shakes are soya based. I kept going as it was a weekly weigh in with others but looking back it was such a waste of time and energy. I lost next to nothing…
  • OMG White chocolate peanut butter exists????!!!!!!! I would not be able to cope if I lived where ever you are. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
  • Yummy!!!!!! As a kiwi bought up on vegemite on toast I even have jars in my cupboards now that I live in Sweden. A a a a a a arghhhh delicious. If I smelled it I would have to make toast :p
  • Hi I am intolerant not 100% allergic as it's a side effect of my underactive thryoid. However, people still comment on what yummy things I make and bake. You can't go wrong with good old unprocessed meat and veg/salad. Yep it sounds a bit boring but you can use fresh herbs for flavour. Over time I bought different gluten…
  • I was always put off by weighing things and I couldn't believe that mfp had a scanner for the bar codes. I was sceptical that it would know random swedes foods but omg it does! !!! I am way more motivated to log things now even the good the bad and the ugly. Had some good surprises too by weighing that my bread weight…
