  • Top weight. 350+ CW 218 GW 199 (just a number that sounds good) I will keep logging and see what happens. I think the BMI tables show that I will be overwight to about 180.
  • I have bad days. The difference from the past is I don't let it get me down. I log it and go on. I try to plan on plus goal calories and restrict before the event but sometimes just splurge. I admit to making use of "generic pig-out" or "generic pizza pig-out" entries and don't let it depress me. That would just lead me to…
  • I donate my clothes as soon as they are to big to wear. I use this as motivation to keep going. I buy my clothes at Goodwill because they are temporary. I am looking to loose another 20 pounds but that is just a number. I didn't even keep a set of start clothes. The only thing that I have not replaced is shoes and socks.
  • I agree with the OP. I have lost around 90 lbs eating less of most foods and counting calories. The food choices I make are if the calories in a certain food is worth the calories. I would also add that seniors can loose weight and although exercise is important to health, weight can still be lost. I have lost 50 lbs in…
  • I fully understand binge eating at a buffet. I went a long time that I just did not go to those places then realized they are many opportunities to go back to my old binge eating habits. I reached a point that I realized that i had to learn to control myself in these situations so I know longer avoid them. I usually get a…
  • I lost 70# on MFP a year ago. I thought I had portion and calories under control so I went off calorie logging. During the next 6+months I gained 30# back. I am back on MFP and have lost the 30+#. I intend to continue on MFP until my body says OK. The important point is that I intend to continue my logging even at a…
  • I have tried tried different ways to deal with larger meals and the best for me is to cut back in advance of the situation. The key to me is finding a new "feeling hungry" sensation. This also carries over to feeling full or stuffed. The stuffed feeling was my old sensation now it is uncomfortable.
  • Excellent post by EmmaFitzi I use how my jeans fit more than the scale. I do weigh daily just to see haw my body reacts in the short term. I post on this site every Monday and have learned the monthly change is more meaningful.
  • I use Premier Protein Shakes from Costco. 160 cal and 30gm protein. Works for me as grab and go.
  • I agree that BMI should be in your tool box but not your only tool. I am currently at 238# down from 310# about two years ago. The current wt is my high school weight and I was a basketball player ( I didn't say a good player) and a lot more muscular. BMI says I am obese until I am at 200# and 180# until I am at the normal…

  • If anyone discovers that beer and pizza cause weight, loss contact me and I will be a male model. Until then I will continue to eat less than I burn.
  • I think that if a cheat day is planned, calorie adjustment should be made before the event. This is is what works for me and is presented as an idea for the members of this forum. I tend to have cheat foods (pizza) rather than days but I also avoid social meals as they do not work well for me. Before I retired My job…
  • I had a two day physical at a hospital and they didn't have a scale that registered over 350 lbs. I had to weigh myself on a freight scale at work. I had gotten so heavy I didn't want to weigh myself. I have since righted that sinking ship and am moving in the right direction but still remember the scale challenge. As a…
  • I should have noted that I had a salmon patty (170 cal) with the salad (150 cal). Fair questions. Saving calories for pizza for dinner. I have also used pickled beets and and eggs for protein in salads.

  • I just finished a salad for lunch. It was the boring lettuce/cucumber/vidalia variety. I dressed with lemon and salt/pepper. For me, once you get past the idea that it was without the sugar laden dressing it was good. The calories for the salad was one/half of the calories of the dressing I would have use previously. I…

  • I sometimes pre-log for the day and change if necessary. I read in an earlier thread that a member thought of her eating like a budget. You have your calories to spend each day and planning helps.
  • Losing weight to join the military is a great goal. 40+ years ago I had to lose 75 pounds to join the military. I would suggest that your goal of joining the Navy is the goal although there is a number attached to your primary goal. By the way, I lost the 75 pounds and spent 8+ years in the US Army and spent half of that…
  • I find that sometimes estimating is the only option. I try to over estimate and under eat my recommended calories to account for any over estimates. Works for me.
