The skin tags thing reminds me of the old folk remedy of "buying warts" off people (usually kids). You give them a nickel for their warts and often they really do disappear. I think it's mental, like a crazy placebo effect. I wonder if ACV works on the skin tags for a similar reason--because the guy has such faith that ACV…

I find playing video games works well, as it keeps my hands occupied. Can't eat if you don't have time to do the hand-to-mouth thing!

I haven't tried any commercial diets, but various friends/family members have. IMO the one that has the highest success rate is Weight Watchers, as it isn't a faddish "only eat grapefruit!" type 'diet' and it has a real-life support system / accountability (if you attend the meetings) which helps a lot of people. The diets…

I'm glad you came here to get info before jumping in and trying to lose 40 pounds in a month, which just is not healthy (and for most people, not possible). Yes, summer is just around the corner. My advice is: lose weight in a healthy, gradual way, but also don't wait around for your body to be "perfect" before enjoying…

Hello, fellow social eater! Personally I do NOT eat a meal before going to an event, that would be a mistake for me. Because the whole point is that I'm engaging in eating as a social activity, a way to share and connect with others, not just because "omg I'm hungry". I actually avoid eating when I know I have a birthday…

Thanks for the timely reminder, I needed that!

For weight loss it doesn't matter. For general health, energy, and mood, it's a good idea to get in the ballpark of the macros. Except I think salt is more of an "upper limit" macro, compared to protein where it's more of a "try to hit it" macro.

I use a different app, Simple Workout Log, to track my exercise. MFP is great for tracking calories, but not the best for exercise. (I enter cardio on both SWL and MFP, so that MFP can use it to calculate my daily calories. But I don't bother putting any of my strength training on MFP.)

Those Hostess "pies" with lemon filling, chocolate filling, etc. They have a crazy amount of calories and I just can't fit them into my meal plans without going hungry. :(

Unfortunately spot reducing doesn't work. I wish it did!

Partly it was for health reasons; I felt rundown and lacked energy. Partly it was because I wanted to look good in some styles of clothing that, at the time, didn't look that great on me. Partly it was curiosity: what would I look like at a healthy weight? How would my body change? For the rest of it . . . kind of the…

I've always bought most of my clothes from thrift shops; I don't like spending a lot of money on clothes. Unfortunately the nearest thrift shop is a ways away and I haven't been there in quite a while. I really need to upgrade my jeans. Right now they're held up by a belt and hope.

I don't have any helpful advice, but I wanted to vocalize my support and wish you the best of luck. That sounds really tough, having so many medical limitations on your food.

I mix protein powder with random things. Like I made french toast last night and I added a scoop of protein powder to the batter.
-
Agreed, they were terrible.

I really like the Quest protein powders. They usually have about 100 calories per scoop and are based on whey, I believe. If you go to a supplement store, they usually carry individual packets of them so you can try them before committing to a big canister. You can also bake with them--make protein pancakes etc.

I think I'm going to hit it today; I'm at 8,228 right now. :) I walk down the stairs and then back up at lunch (50 flights), which is where a lot of it comes from.

Not always, but sometimes! I love a good bath bomb, so I often reward myself with one from LUSH.

I never felt ashamed, but I also didn't ever advertise that I was trying to lose weight. I guess I just never felt the need to? I think it's really easy to overshare on personal projects (whether it's weight loss or something else), to the point where your friends are silently praying you won't bring it up yet again, and I…

I dropped from a 34DDDD to a 32DDD. I feel great! (Also there's more of a variety of colors in the smaller size, lol.) I went to Nordstrom's and the fitter was amazing. First one who ever noticed (or at least commented on) the fact that one of my boobs is bigger than the other, and she went out of her way to pick bras that…

First of all, congratulations on losing 50 pounds! Even though you're struggling right now, that is a GREAT accomplishment! I've yo-yo-ed before too, and the bright side of it is . . . even if you have gained weight, you know that you CAN lose it too. I think for a lot of people, weight is more the sign of their emotional…

At 5'5" and 125 pounds, you are already in the healthy BMI for your height. Don't go below 114 pounds or you will be dipping into the unhealthy range. You might try strength training instead of losing weight. Two people can be the same weight but look very different depending on their muscle mass. Don't worry about…

Going without food for an extended period can make people feel lightheaded and "floaty", which they mistake for "the toxins going out of my body" or whatever.

The repeated "LOLing" in caps reminds me of an article I read about how even in their 20s and 30s, a lot of people regard men as "boys" and forgive them if they do stupid crap (assuming they are also middle-class or up, and well-educated, lol. Not so much for poor guys). Like Ryan Lochte (the Olympic swimmer who vandalized…

I think a vlog could be a great tool for you to connect with people and keep on track. :)

An apple and celery sticks. :) My midmorning snack.

This was me! I could control myself much better at home than at work, and one of the challenges at work was that I couldn't control what kind of food / how much food I'd be confronted with. I don't have any specific advice aside from just doing your best and picking yourself back up if you fall.

I don't know enough about epilepsy to be comfortable recommending you to encourage your dad to let you continue training. Especially since, if it's been in his family (aunts and grandma), then he probably knows a thing or two about seizures. To be honest I think you should do what your dad says: wait until you meet with a…

I haven't had a moment exactly like that, but I have had a series of exciting moments where I realized I actually liked healthy foods that I thought I hated. Like I always thought I hated vegetables (aside from carrots), but it turns out I love roast broccoli, I like the taste of kale in quiche, I like kale chips, I like…

I've had days like that, and I just eat those calories the next day (in addition to that day's calories). :)
