I just hope it doesn't involve live mice.

I've never weighed my food and I've lost over 40 pounds so far. To me learning to eyeball portions is more useful than weighing food to figure out the exact grams.

Years ago I was watching Will & Grace and Jack created an inspiring gym motto: "Stake it!" Of course the joke was that it sounded good, but was meaningless. ;) I like a good joke so when I really need that extra boost, I tell myself, "STAKE IT! Staaaake iiiit . . ."

Doing cardio (ellipticals, treadmills, bikes) is the best way to lose weight at the gym. Strength exercises will give your muscles a firm, fit appearance. The bikes burn less calories than the elliptical machines and treadmills because you're just using your legs--no arm movements. "Real life" biking burns more calories…

Oh man, let me tell you about my favorite computer exercise game: Yourself Fitness (name for the PS2, X-Box or PC) My Fitness Coach (name for the Wii / WiiU version) They're the same game, although My Fitness Coach has some slight upgrades from Yourself Fitness. Anyway! The game doesn't use the Wiimote or the Wii balance…

Here's my eating schedule: 9:00 - a smoothie (150 to 220 cal) or a breakfast bar (110 to 220) noon - small orange 2:00 - two to three gummi candies (Just to satisfy my sweet tooth, lol.) 3:30 - breakfast or health bar, one Girl Scout cookie (gotta support the Scouts, am I right?) 7:00 to 10:00, depending how long it takes…

You can't really target certain areas, except in the sense that doing bicep exercises (for example) will give you bigger bicep muscles. But for actual fat (or boobs), only your genetics will determine where it is added and where / when it comes off. A lot of women do find that as they lose weight, their boobs shrink. (I've…

I get almost all my produce from the farmers market now (going to college did get me out of that dead-end minimum wage job, yay), but I think it's actually more expensive? I'll compare prices next time. The meat and eggs are DEFINITELY more expensive, but I don't care.

Lego Batman. The best Batman movie I've seen in years, and certainly the funniest.

Great idea, especially since they're all different sizes and shapes. The gummi penuins are different sizes compared to the gummy lips and so on.

IMO a lot of people don't really believe that calorie counting works / is effective. (Not people on here, but people out in the world.) So they hear things like: "I went on a low-carb diet and lost weight" or "I cut out all sugars except fruit and lost weight". And they think to themselves: "Oh! Carbs (or sugar, or…

That's great that you got her to a better weight! Was she a small dog? I think they're the most expert at looking cute for people food, lol. I tried feeding them separately the past year, putting down set amounts of food for each and taking the dish up after fifteen minutes But Skinny Cat is a grazer (eats food in small…

I eat out a LOT. Fortunately a lot of places around here put their calories on the menu, so I can pick something lower calorie, or save half for later. It's expensive, though.

It wouldn't be my choice, but I wish you the best of luck! I will be watching this thread with interest.

So true. When I was going to college (as an adult student), I was budgeting $35 a month for food. Everything else from my job (part-time, because school) went to rent, electricity, bus pass, school books, etc. I mostly lived off of frozen burritos (8 to a bag, bags were ~$3 apiece, so about $0.38 a meal.) Which aren't the…

I hear you, OP. I have a sweet tooth too. When I was starting to lose weight, I did not have a lot of self-control around sugary sweets, so I cut them completely out of my diet. The exception: buying one cookie (or similar) at a coffee shop on occasion, to be eaten immediately. But not telling myself "Oh, I will buy this…

Awesome job, OP!! I have to admit, I have not been as successful. I only passed a Girl Scout once without buying any. Because I didn't have any cash on me, lol. I have been trying to be strict with myself about how many I eat at once, though. Like one a day. Unfortunately my favorite kind is also one of the flavors that…

OP, I suffered from "good kid syndrome" too. My problem wasn't an eating disorder, but other than that, oh yeah I identify with @jgnatca wrote! OP, it's okay not to be perfect. It's okay to need help. I know it's hard to ask for help, but you need to. You aren't a failure or a disappointment or a burden. I'm glad you…

Lol yeah, they're TERRIBLE healthwise, pretty much no nutritional value. I love them, though. The ones at the candy store were vegan; they use pectin as a hardening agent instead of gelatin. So that makes it even harder to find an exact match online. But then again, I'll bet most of the calories come from the sugar-coating…

I started lifting weights because I want to have nice abs and triceps to show off once the fat comes off, lol. I don't like "the underarm jiggle" that I, like a lot of ladies, have. So far I've been losing weight faster than before I started lifting. Of course part of that is probably that I do cardio at the gym too. But…

Thanks! Very helpful. I would have been pretty sad if I were really eating 1000+ calories in three candies, lol. "Today I ate three gummis and a balance bar. Extremely healthy choices."
-
I wouldn't use anything like that unless you medically need it. This year I got hit by the flu and my appetite was completely gone for about three days, and barely present for four days after that. Honestly, it is awful. You know you need to eat, you feel light-headed and loopy from not eating, but everything just seems…

Funny I saw this topic today when yesterday I bought apple cider vinegar! :) Not for weight loss, though, but because I saw a sweet & sour chicken recipe that used it. Sounds similar to the recipe people are talking about here. Can't wait to try it!

Well, that guy is certainly not ingesting any calories by using Diet Coke that way. So try that, OP.

I'm 11 pounds away from my goal. I'll re-evaluate at that point and I suspect I'll want to drop a little more. Regardless, I'm very excited!

That's the literal denotation of the phrase, but not the connotation. The implication is that your entire life has changed in a dramatic fashion, not that it's slightly different. I do think that exercising / losing weight CAN BE a lifestyle change for certain people. Just that it isn't for most.

I have a real sweet tooth and I eat sweets / cookies pretty often, as otherwise I am prone to cheating. My only restrictions on chocolate are that I try to buy chocolate not sourced from Africa, as they use a lot of slave labor in the cocoa bean fields there. South American chocolate is okay. So if you're having trouble…

I think "lifestyle change" gets overused and is pretty annoying. I never used to go to the gym; now I do. That's not a lifestyle change, that's me tacking on a one-hour-a-day activity to my current lifestyle. I used to eat bigger portions; now I eat smaller portions. Not really a lifestyle change. It's the same exact food.…

I am terrible at jogging / running in "the real world", but I do great on an elliptical machine. Being able to see the calories burned / miles run estimate really motivates me. Also I can play cell phone games while on the machine without worrying about running into traffic.

It's really hard to say whether someone "looks their weight" because people wear their weight so differently, have different body types and all that. It can be disheartening to learn that you weigh more than you expected but don't worry, you can and will still succeed. :) I used to think "I didn't look that fat", and I…
