First time in a running challenge, but in the process of prepping for a 10 km race in June. 150-200 km is my goal. Could be challenging because the golf course just opened.

Going to try for 500 km. Building distance into my rides as I prepare for a 125 km gran Fondo in September. May 1st - got 40 km ride in cool, damp weather. Hope things get warmer.

Yes! Very active and supportive, and you can add me if you want.

Just got the news, and everything is okay. Moments like these make you realize just how important your health is.

I have enjoyed my time with fitness pal and credit the whole community with keeping me on track since I began my New Years resolution diet and exercise plan. Have lost 28 pounds. I really need that community now.

First ride on the new bike! Let the preparation for the centurion begin!

New to this challenge and just got my first serious bike. Unfortunately we have had a nasty April so far weather-wise. Can't hit the roads until April 15th! Will set a half month goal of 120 km

Any advice on a cycling computer? I'm looking at a Harmon vivoactive hr smartwatch. Gps and has golf, running, and cycling specific functions. Ant + works for cadence and speed with the built in sensor on my bike. I'm not looking at racing. Just want to collect data and make improvements on my rides.

You should try roasted chickpeas. Plenty of recipes to make them yourself. I use paprika, garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, and olive oil. I also start from dried form, soaking and cooking them myself so that any of the crap added to canned chickpeas is avoided. Great snack and it fills you up quickly. Can be a bit dry…

Been running a month now, and using the run trainer app. This app sets up a schedule to get you ready for a future race. I chose the 2 minute walk then 3 minute walk intervals, and am up to 60 minutes in total. Well on my way to getting ready for a 10 km event in June, and I'm not breaking down with injuries. If you…

Without getting science-y the answer is yes. Watch what you are eating to hit calorie goals and throw in exercises. I'm doing cardio 3 times a week along with strength training 2 times. Lost 25 pounds in 3 months, and am getting a lean muscle base, including the makings of a 6 pack. Not looking to be a body-builder, just…

Set goals. I decided to eat normal meals, but to cut out carbs for snacks by sticking to apples and raw almonds. I tracked everything I ate with fitness pal, and have exercise schedules that I am sticking to so I can run a 10 Km race in June and a centurion bike race in sept. I include at least 1 circuit training session a…

Yep! That's all part of the master plan.

Bought the bike! It's a giant defy advanced pro 2! Had to get an xL frame. Just have it on a trainer and am waiting for the weather to get warmer.

Thanks Robert. Will keep your comments in mind. I got my new bike hooked up to the trainer and rode for 30 minutes. The saddle was awesome! I did get fatigue in my arms though. Is that normal when you first start up, or is there an issue with fit? Tried to keep my arms slightly bent when in the up position.

Just taking my new bike home! Got a giant defy advanced pro 2. Totally thrilled! If buying a giant bike in Toronto go to the giant store on queen west and ask for Ian. It took 4.5 hours to get the fit just right, and got all the additional accessories I needed at discounted rates. My wife has got one on order for May 10.…

Sounds great! I'm shopping for a road bike in the next week or two, then it's time to hit the road. No cycling group where I live....hope to branch out and find a biking buddy.

Sounds like you are well on your way. Do you mind telling me the bike you are using? I'm trying to get an idea about what brands people enjoy riding.

Found a training plan for 8 weeks that suggests 3 rides per week. Tuesday is speed ride. (4-6 max efforts up to 2 minutes on tough stretches such as hills or headwinds with easy pedaling up to 4 min between). Thursday is the steady ride.(2-4 efforts of 15-30 minutes that increase heart rate to 80%, with 15 minutes easy…

Thanks for all the great advice! I will keep you posted about which bike I went with

I was thinking endurance bike so it's more upright and easier on my back. Not interested in racing.(yet). Definitely going to get fitted at a bike shop. Looking at Trek or Giant or Raleigh Merit. Any word on any of these brands?

Hey Hagnew0, I would recommend doing some strength training (7 minute workout app is great) twice a week to build a base and to get some low impact work in(elliptical) to build a little aerobic health. You want your knees to be able to handle the impact of running. Set up a run/walk schedule using an app like run trainer.…

Thanks for the advice! I have downloaded run trainer by under armor. Started with a 15 minute run/walk and set up a training schedule for me. Went to a running store to get fitted with shoes. Ended up with Nike zooms.

Taking the next big step. Now that I have lost enough weight for my knees to handle the pounding, I am going to start running again. Shopping for good quality shoes so that I don't break down. Any tips on how to get up and running?

You can add me as well. I'm 51, and have kept my New Years resolution so far to the tune of 15 pounds! My keys have been to exercise regularly, to log everything I eat, and to snack with less carbs.(apples and raw almonds). My wife is very happy with the new me, and so am I. What a kick when someone notices and compliments…

First time I have lasted past 2 weeks on a diet. One month now and I have lost 12 pounds, by tracking eating and by working out with my elliptical. Need to get new holes on my belts! My wife is very happy with her thinner husband. Apples and raw almonds are my snacks.

Keeping my New Years resolution by using fitness pal and Fitbit to track eating and exercise EVERY DAY. Lost 12 pounds on my way to losing 30. My wife has lost a few sympathy pounds too, so we are both pleased.
