I just finished watching the games. What a beautiful finish. I cry at silly movies but this is a first for a CrossFit event.

Yes! I’ve been a crossfitter for 5+ years. I’m over 40 so body functionality/strength/flexibility are invaluable. I like being able to squad down to reach something in the the back of the bottom cabinet without having to crawl on the floor. I notice it in the garden too, I can Cossack squat around pulling for hours. And…

I made roasted green tomato soup today. Look it up on ‘With Food + Love’ blog. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it because green tomatoes are so tart but roasting them and blending with onions and garlic really gives them depth. I used spinach instead of kale. The color is pretty too.

I try for 40p/30f/30c, and 1200 net (after consuming calories burned by exercise). I read just last night about the wave diet, which is basically what I do, on training days I eat more. I eat mostly paleo. For a month, I committed to no alcohol. I'm trying to cut. My size is 145#/5'-6". I'm 42. What I try and what I do…

My coach prides herself in being "old school". You nailed that one. I've seen another coach pull superglue out of the first aide kit to fix a busted callus. It sounds funny and barbaric, which is why I love it so much!!

I have big hips. I started noticing a difference 9 months or so into training, being squats and dead lifts. I run too.

It depends on your body type. When I first started lifting someone told me to try to improve my performance, rather that try to look a certain way. What matters is that you have fun and people will respect you more for your achievements than whether or not you have ripped arms. I have girl friends that lift really heavy,…

Exude mental toughness....be strong, push yourself, break a sweat, work to failure sometimes (be careful of injury), be open to advise. When the good guys see you do something unsafe or bad form...believe me, they want to give you tips. Keep your eyes open, you'll recognize them. Watch their form. Hear the cues they give…

I shave mine off with a callus shaver, you can get one at drug stores or probably Walmart. It's a 6 inch handle with a razor on the end, the razor, of course, is protected by hardware similar to ones you use on your legs, but it's a single blade. I CrossFit, so between pull ups and dead lifts, l develop calluses weekly…

It is a challenge to eat clean while camping. I backpack, which burns between 300-400 calories an hour carrying a 40 pound pack. I typically eat clean/80% paleo, try to maintain a 40/30/30 split high on protein and eat 6x a day. On my last backpacking trip, I really was more concerned with getting the calories I needed for…
