Bumping, you guys really helped me out a while back as I was transitioning into maintenance (I had a different account then). I need to join your group again :)

During my active weight loss phase I did no exercise at all and just focused on eating at a calorie deficit. Since transitioning into maintenance a couple years ago I've done exercise on and off, depending on the season/my mood etc. My current, summer routine is- -brisk walk, 3 times a week (2 miles a time) -Nerd Fitness…

I eat out several times a week and yep, ALWAYS check restaurant's websites before you go, and look up calorie info. Also learned that the hard way a while back :p

It's definitely not for everyone, but I actually really enjoyed the plan and had no problems doing it-definitely wasn't miserable :) And with this format you only 'diet' every other day, which made it easier for me to stick with the whole weight loss phase. I did alternate day IF for around 6 months, hit my original goal,…

I'm currently back in active weight loss, to get a bit leaner for the summer. Started yesterday with this breakdown- 1,397calories 101+ protein 55+ fat Will do this for a few days until I hit 118lbs (was 124.5lbs yesterday, 122.5lbs this morning), and then I'll adjust up the calories a bit and maintain there for the summer…

That was one of the things that Varady tracked in her research, and surprisingly after the first few initial days people naturally started eating less calories on their non-fasting days. I also found this to be true with my own experience with alternate day IF. After the first couple weeks I no longer had an urge to over…

Yeah, she's rubbed me wrong as well :|

Meal and calorie timing is a preference thing, and nothing more. If you prefer to eat a larger meal in the morning hours, and can fit it into your calorie goals, then go for it :) I actually don't break my daily fast till after 11am (lately it's been noon), and then I eat my biggest meal of the day, which regularly clocks…

Ahhh Varady. She actually isn't the creator of this idea, and there's a bit of controversy surrounding the whole thing. It was actually Dr. James Johnson, who wrote The Alternate-Day Diet several years ago, that really started things off. Then Dr. Michael Mosley came along, did his BBC documentary Eat, Fast, Live Longer…

I'm a big fan of Mayo Clinic's site-it's always where I go when I'm freaking out about something lol

Yep we do too-extra HAS contributions for having good blood panels/healthy weight/blood pressure. I pass with flying colors, and I eat All the food that I like, including fast food, diet soda, beer etc etc

Um, our government already heavily subsidizes the farming industry-look into the Farm Bill, the newest one which was signed by President Obama last year. Interestingly, two of the biggest subsidized crops are corn and soy, which are a couple of the main ingredients in so much of the 'processed junk' food out there :p

I have three kids (7, 8 and 10)-1 hates any kind of soda and the other 2 only like Sprite/Sierra Mist. We usually eat out as a family once a week and I never get them kids meals-they could eat two of those things and still be hungry :p They split adult entrees and then the soda hating kid gets lemonade (she has to take a…

Yeah, its called caffeine :p

Speak for yourself-I hate apples blech. And the thought of eating an apple core just made me gag a little :|

Just ran your info and your maintenance calorie goal, with NO exercise, is 1,550 calories a day. So something isn't right here. Are you accurate in your tracking? Are you weighing your food? Also the missed period thing is concerning. I'd get a second opinion on that from a different doctor. There may be something deeper…

I just paid $2.39 for a box of 20 flavored black tea bags and you can get bigger boxes of unflavored tea bags at the dollar store. Tea doesn't exactly cost a fortune :p

This-9lbs in a few weeks is great progress! Weight loss isn't a race-you didn't gain the extra weight in a few days and you won't lose it in a few days either. I think you're actually doing pretty great so far :) Like others have said though-weighing your food on a scale can be really eye opening.

This.

I chose my original goal weight based on it being in the middle of the healthy range for BMI. After I hit that I re-evaluated and adjusted my goal weight down a few more pounds. Ended up settling on a maintenance range 15lbs less than my original goal/lower end of the healthy range for BMI, and this is where I feel best at…

Thanks so much, heading over to check these out now!

Thanks! I'll have to play around with what I'm doing and see if I can add some things. Right now I'm doing Nerd Fitness's Beginners body-weight strength training circuit and I am using 10lb weights for one of the movements, so that's one thing I can progress on :)

Sorry I highjacked your thread OP, but thanks for the replies to my question everyone :)

Started in October 2012, hit my original goal weight in April of 2013, with a 43lb loss at that point/wearing size 6s. Since then I've lost another 15ish pounds and wear a size 4 jean comfortably. I can fit in size 2s though if I wanted to, but as a 36 yr old mom of 3 kids, I'm really not into the skin-tight jean look lol.…

See that's why I'd never want to eliminate things I enjoy from my diet, because I'd never want to get to the point where I can't eat them without having issues. That's just not feasible for me, for long term success. To each their own I guess :)

I keep reading about the bloating/soda connection and I'm genuinely confused by it. I realize everyone is different, but I've had NO issues with bloating and I drink 2-4 cans of diet soda a day. My profile picture was actually taken just after I had drank a can of diet soda.

Everyone will be different and brands also runs differently for sizing. I went from a size 14 jean to a current size 4, with a 58ish pound loss. I'm also pear sized, so most of my 'cushion' is on my lower half :p
