I'm finding it's SO cheap to eat vegan. Even with all the nice new "fake meat" products appearing every time I go to the supermarket which are sometimes more than the meat alternative. But with more of us buying them, the price keeps coming down, and they're on special a lot. Yes, it's so cool how there is far more choice…

The Israeli salad looks so beautifully delicious!!! I also want to try making Lebanese fatoush. A friend brought it to a BBQ and I fell in love with it. https://www.gourmettraveller.com.au/recipes/fast-recipes/fattoush-9484 My friend used her Mum's recipe, but that looks similar, except my friend's salad was in smaller…

@ContraryMaryMary @Avidkeo Hi, yes, we've had some smoky days. The fires nearest us are about 50-70 km away, in National Parks. Often we hear small planes fly over us that do the spotting/mapping. Further south, there are bigger bombers that do repeated one-hour, 500 km round trips to refill with water & flame retardant.…

What are you hoping to achieve by making such a change? How long have you been cycling? Knowing athletes, and being one, it can be illogical to think that making major changes will help us make minor improvements. I tend to think eating and training sustainably and letting the consistent training do the physical…

Ooh, yes, the data is fabulous. Happy Scale is amazing, I've been using it nearly 5 years. And a lot of other apps, watches, and phones have weight tracking too. It can be a bit scary weighing or logging things we wish weren't happening. But in my experience, those days correspond with stress, and lack of information or…

@kshama2001 @ReenieHJ @lgfrie Great comments! You understand things well. I lost all the weight by gradually eating more "healthy" foods. I made the change to food that was more "sustainable" gradually, by just having LESS chocolate, sweets, alcohol. Nearly 5 years later I know that all those things weren't worth the…

Vegan Pulse Penne Pasta Ingredients: Pulse Penne Pasta (Aldi brand made of peas, chickpeas, borlotti beans, & lentil flour), pumpkin, edamame, tomato, red capsicum, chilli, vegan cheese probably made of plastic, spring onion, olive oil, salt. It took about 30 minutes to prepare, cook, and serve in the storage containers.…

Ooh, thanks, for a while I forgot about the nutritional yeast I'd bought. Must look into some protein powder to give me more kilojoules. It seems I eat all day but I'm full, and still losing weight. I'm in maintenance, but this week my moving daily average weight has dropped 2 kg. (Probably not much of that would be body…

I'm the OP again. I've been vegan over a week now. Yay!

Thanks, both of you! I've seen a lot of posts about optimal environmental living get "Disagrees", and this includes some of mine, and I've also clicked disagree on dietary or fitness things I may not do myself. It's not nice feeling like we're "doing things wrong". There is no "wrong" if we're trying to be better. We're…

Getting fit and healthy and tidy has made me very alert to global waste, overconsumption, and use of non-renewable resources. I'm starting to see it as actually a form of art trying to keep all these things including emotions and relationships in balance. If anyone finds a good link about the global benefits of investing…

Yes, I bought some vegan cheese and it smelt awful! I tried a different brand, and it's great. Had that cheese, avocado, and tomato in a roll for lunch. Very quick lunch because I'd been to parkrun then coffee and was too starving to make anything else. Breakfast was the usual lately - my mixture of grain cereals,…

Thanks, yes, someone else said that. Haven't had time to read more about it. I think my guts were pretty good when I had Chobani Pro yoghurt for breakfast. Perhaps not so much when I had cheese later in the day. I might test that. Though I want to be able to make my own yoghurt. Another thing on my list.

Ha, thanks, I can see my post reads like I thought they were similar, but I just meant they were both things that I'd read about recently that I didn't remember having. Tempeh sounds a bit like tofu, though is tofu fermented, and do you use them both in similar ways?
-
Thanks, all, these are great! I'm in Australia, and my son is vegetarian and lactose intolerant, and eats a lot of vegan meals partly from living with a vegan. I must admit I've never eaten tempeh, or tahini for that matter (that I can remember) which I'm starting to notice in vegan things online. I like the suggestions…

Ah, I do know about algae caused by too much fertiliser and over-farming cattle. I had to report blue-green algae on our town's lake a couple of times. The blooms happen every summer. (My post missed going into a lot of detail.) Disagree about Roundup being a direct cause of harm. Too much, perhaps, but not just any…

Ooh, totally. It helps get all the emotional arguments out of the way by imagining those replies you'll get in return, and then hone a better, more nuanced "comeback". Very zen.

Zombie-ing this thread because I like the topic and thought of my favourite thing. Daily exercise has given me so much more confidence. I used to be a mess of anxiety and fears. Now I can speak up for myself in real life the way I used to only be able to do online.

I notice a few people "disagreeing" with tips on how not to pollute the country. :disappointed: The people giving tips aren't saying anyone caused any harm on purpose. Sorry if anyone thought that was the intention. We're all in this together, exercising, posting, learning - for the love of enjoying Life!!

All this extra rinsing... No wonder there are town water shortages, shrinking lakes and rivers, and bleach and detergent runoff causing algal blooms killing fish and plankton in oceans. Unless the Stink Police are asking you to leave the gym due to offensive odours, I'd try not to care too much about noticing…

The World Health Organisation recommends only 5% of ADDED sugars, not sugars inherent in most foods, which all grow with sugar in them. Fruit not only has sugars, but many vitamins and minerals, and fibre, all of which are essential to a healthy mind, body, and digestive system.

All these. Although the pre-logging can be done in my head (after 4 and a half years of logging). I log later, just to make sure I'm on track, and see that I've done enough activity via my Garmin sync. I also gave up alcohol, which was has been so nice. No longer swayed by so many ups and downs. I used to hate the taste of…

Yum, I had pizza for lunch. I had enough to fit my calories. I have a cheeky little theory I'd like to run past MFP: The guilt (say, of a 'binge') is a rush, perhaps like exercise, smoking, drinking, etc. People do it for the thrill, not so much for any "bad" food. (5 donuts at a free afternoon tea if you've been starving…

I think that's how many men like "curvy" to be. Whereas now, I see many women saying they're curvy meaning "having curves" as opposed to being visibly muscly or bony. I strongly suggest to everyone to learn how to sew, repair, alter, and upcycle clothes, not only to solve problems like this. Far, far too much fabric goes…

In general terms, increasing the proportions in our diets of: fruit and veg fibre nuts unsaturated fats Omega 3s protein can keep our digestive system feeling full for longer and feeling better, as well as improving our whole body health. This explains why some people do well on LCHF and some on 40-60% carbohydrates...…

Knew this thread would be worth checking out. Thanks heaps. In our town (Australia), we have a 'choice' of 4 supermarkets. They pretty much sell all the same brands and products (except Aldi which produces similar products under its own brands). I've often felt like the Russians in the pre-Berlin-Wall-fall days' propaganda…

There is no one cause or solution. Having a lactose intolerance causes stomach and bowel issues, pain, and stress. (65% of humans have a lactose intolerance. (It varies from region to region.) https://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition/lactose-intolerance The left and right vagus nerves, main conduits for our parasympathetic…

The bit where you know that's fast for where you are seems to jump out at me as being the explanation why you're finding it hard at the moment. Slowing your loss a bit (to around 0.5 lb a week) would mean you could learn to stick to lower calories sooner, and therefore much longer, i.e. many years of maintenance. Always…

I did some parkrun tourism this morning. Got my R parkrun, for the unofficial alphabet challenge, and R is also handy for the Pirate Club (7 Cs and an Rrrr) :D parkrun is growing in the US since I last looked.

Saturday-Miles for Moby? I have another good friend doing NY marathon Sunday, which MobyCarp had planned to run this year. I'll certainly be thinking of that race tomorrow! I'm hoping to run about 12 km tomorrow morning.
