  • You don’t have to count calories to lose weight. On Twitter recently, I was talking about how weight loss depends on your energy equation but I mentioned “calories”, and even a PhD student whose thesis is on nutrition was really nasty and also accused me of saying calorie counting is the only way.
  • Thank you, everyone! It's probably a lot to think about for some people who come into Success Stories wanting to be fired up with enthusiasm to lose weight fast before summer, or "go hard" or "lose weight now or never". Hopefully it lets people take a deep breath, pause for thought, and think about the much longer term,…
  • I say "I don't have enough calories" or "It's not worth the calories" so I can eat something else I'm making room for. I decided not to worry about people's hangups about calories. I'm being the change I wish to see. It really only helps them if I'm not embarrassed to talk about something that's improved my life immensely.
  • Indeed. Profile page says not found. Seemed a bit odd the OP agreed with all the non-woo advice, then suddenly only listened to stuff that sounds like it comes from Goop.
  • @bentojo What a lovely comment to receive! Thank YOU!
  • I lost 80 lb and have kept it off 3 years eating 50% carbs. Clickbait articles make money from fear and love telling people "carbs are evil". Science disagrees. Well done for querying keto. All the best!
  • Sounds like a lovely trip!! How long have you been in maintenance? I've been on MFP 4 years, and maintaining 3 years. During weight loss and most of this time, I used to eat light during the day and most of my calories in the early evening, like you. But the past 6 months I've felt less ravenous throughout the day if I eat…
  • Endomorph, ectomorph etc are old diet myths from decades ago. Lots of good science has been done since then that show weight loss has nothing to do with any of that. Other old diet beliefs you should avoid include: detoxing, egg diets, wheat belly, pH diet, blood type diet, leaky gut, liver cleanse, "sugar addiction", burn…
  • I've been using MFP for 4 years. Lost 80 lb in the first year, and have maintained my goal weight for 3 years so far. Wrote about all the important things I learned in Success Stories yesterday:…
  • Good point, and thanks, @motivatedmartha Often illness and being unfit/overweight are intertwined (though not everyone, obviously). In the past 4 years, so many things have improved for me. Anxiety Back pain Arthritis Mood Relationships Confidence Sleep Digestion I also can't remember the last cold I had. I sometimes say,…
  • That's brilliant, h! @middlehaitch and thanks! I don't have a problem not wanting to keep running... choosing where I want to run keeps me out there. I don't have a goal other than to run for pleasure at the moment. I do have holidays coming up and the thought of being able to run somewhere new keeps me very keen to keep…
  • Hi Teri ( @AbandondedKSCharger ) Did it really feel good? Are you sure you didn't feel guilty or disappointed? No niggling voice or unsettled feelings? I'm not a hippy or anything, but I do think a certain self-awareness (call it mindfulness if you like) and honesty with yourself is so important when you want to lose…
  • AF Day 436. Ran 25 km on a lovely golden Autumn morning. Left, wine glass commonly used about 40 years ago; Right, wine glass now. Saw this just now, and thought you'd all find it insightful. Best wishes, lovely people!!
  • Delivered a glass print of one of my photos to the gallery. Really happy with that one. Spent a little bit of money promoting a very positive piece of information about sustainable fashion designs and made some people happy. Got the warm fuzzies now. Finished another one line drawing today on Procreate and added 3 artworks…
  • I get the feeling that you're all trying to wind me up now, after I said self-care wasn't all makeup etc!
  • I'm sure I'm not the only one who got to goal weight and is keeping it off and has never drunk green tea. It's not compulsory. Drink coffee if you like coffee. You don't have to punish yourself. <3 If you like it, that's fine, but it doesn't have any magical fat-burning properties. Cheers. Green tea thread auto-disclaimer:…
  • Does your Fitbit let you track moods, appetite, symptoms, pain, etc? Mine didn't. Nor my current Garmin. iPeriod does. BTW, I've got the free version.
  • Did someone mention menopause? I just today realised some weird stuff is going on that explains some other weird stuff! Hi @Avidkeo   Thanks for thinking of me! I'm around. Just haven't been posting about running a lot, after devouring everything I could read about it for 3 years, I think I'm up to…
  • I've been using MFP nearly 4 years. A few years ago a workmate got me to help her set up MFP, but she didn't even enter one item after that. But now she always checks the calorie count on the packaged foods she has, even though she doesn't log things. It takes some people a while to come to grips with. I think I confused a…
  • Recently I've blocked news on Twitter from places I don't respect.
  • I do love shopping on my own. :D
  • Zombie thread alert! Worth a bump and a comment while I'm here, after reading this for the first time. Not sure how I missed this one. Exactly, @Nony_Mouse  That's what it looks like in this bit of the OP: “OMGOMGOMG it’s been three weeks and I haven’t lost a pound!! Help me! I am eating at a deficit and I have done…
  • Hahaha, yep, people will change their mind and want to do it if a Hollywood star does it. But we're all obsessive if we are doing it otherwise.
  • I've made our April thread: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10735541/less-alcohol-april-2019-one-day-at-a-time
  • :'( <3 You bother because learning is never instant. Same with weight loss. You might as well keep trying because the time will pass anyway.
  • @skram01 I'm so happy you were able to hike and go to the gym!!! I'd like to hear more about your hiking bullet journal. I'm registered for an 80 km hike over 2 days in June. I've done the same event (different routes each time) the full distance once in 2017, and half the distance in 2016.
  • Maybe a bit early, but I had time today to start a thread for April with a big OP of ideas I've been writing/saving. https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10735201/april-2019-self-care-challenge-guys-dont-think-self-care-is-girly-stuff/
  • Make a friendly deal with your significant other (or schedule some extra time for the kid/s at daycare) that gives you (or you both, if you have a partner) both equal spare time periods for yourselves. If you don't, you'll end up resenting your OH, and the kids, and that leads to arguments.
  • Thank you so much, Ruby, and Jen! I love seeing what others are doing. So proud of you, Ruby, for being civil to your almost-ex. With my mum rather frantic packing to leave town to retire interstate, I've been quite stressed, and had a few weeks of poor sleep, waking up for 2 hours in the middle of the night. Relaxation -…
  • Please, please do. You mentioned former eating disorders. I'm mentioning that again, and hoping you'll understand why I'd mention it after you sound reluctant or conflicted about mentioning dieting in appointments. Getting advice on how to look after your whole body and mind is all essential to cancer treatment.…
