I also live in Blue Bell. We have a gym at my office so I don't belong to one outside just going there at lunch or after work. But, I hit up Kelly Drive or the Perk/SRT on weekends for long runs. I'm a running fiend - last year I joined Half Fanatics and this year, I'm working towards joining Marathon Maniacs. I'm not much…

Dr. Oz was on the Elvis Duran show just after the holidays and said, flat out, that he does not endorse or support ANY kind of programs WHATSOEVER pertaining to health and weight loss. He has several books out and his show, that is all he does. Though people think he's a quack, or whatever you want to call him, he's…

Yep, even if you did it the Galloway method, you can definitely do it in 3 months, no sweat! Your longest run can be up to 10 miles. I would consult the Hanson and Galloway methods to give yourself some choices as to which method to pick for your training.

That's what I'm doing, with some halfs in between to keep my momentum going in my legs. Burn out is sure to set in right around June when I finish my 6th half. Yikes.

Awesome and isn't it a great feeling to see that in your clothing on the tag?!?!?! =)

Maybe he'll take Kimye with him!!! *happy dances*

My best friend has a membership to Costco. It's pretty decent. I, on the other hand, have a membership to BJ's. I tend to like it, however, when you do the unit price vs. what I can get individually, sometimes it's far greater than if I go to a small place to get it. For instance, the Whey protein I get at Walmart, though…

FYI if you get regular jelly beans, it's the same thing. I went to a seminar on fueling before, during and after a race put on by Runner's World two years ago and that was one of the questions: are the sports beans any different than the regular jelly beans and we were told no difference. So, save your money, buy a big 5…

If I'm not mistaken, they are switching to a lottery system so unless you raise money for a charity, like Girls on the Run or LLS, you'll have to take your chances. I put in for NYC Marathon in November, also wanted to put in for Chicago. The way my luck is, I'll get into neither or both! :P

I was going to, but I think that's the same weekend as Flying Pig Marathon in Cincy, which is NOT the flattest race anywhere.. ROFL..

I have the Stick (smaller version) and a Rumble Roller (larger blue version) and both help in different ways. If I need a really good, hard massage of my muscles, I choose the RR. But, if it's just to work out some kinks and stress in my muscles, back, upper regions, then I pull out the Stick. Just don't try to take the…

Haha.. beware of Meetup. ;-) I kid, I kid. I met my best friend (a guy) through meetup. It's got it's pluses and minuses but you get that from anything. For what it's worth, I've been single about 10 years. I miss having the relationship part, but I was in such a bad place in life that I'm glad I didn't have something else…

Thanks for the recipes!! I just bought myself a Ninja Master Pro set -- LOVE IT!!! Makes making smoothies easy and had a really great Consumer Reports rating over the ridiculously priced Vitamix (91 out of 100). These recipes rock. Can't wait to try more. Using smoothies as my breakfast.

You, my friend, are VERY special! Do not ever self-depricate and lower who you are as a person. God loves you, your wife and family love you and I love that you shared some very personal situations and feelings with all of us. Keep it up!! I, too, ran my first full marathon this year. I was slow, finishing just under 6…

Absolutely awesome!! And your smile in your photo says it all. =)

Congratulations! You are truly a "Phoenix" - out of the ashes, you arose anew! And just think about what a good example you'll be setting for your daughter and future generations. =) My favorite part of your story - your smiles in your later photos. =)

I wear compression socks for anything over 10 miles. Never have had an issue and feel like my legs are a lot less stiff and / or in pain when I don't wear them. Also wear them after long runs for recovery (I have a few pairs).

I can also recommend the SpiBelt. I actually used two of them during my first marathon. Sounds a bit extreme, but one had the gu holders and the other was just a plain belt that I kept bagged fruit chews and dried fruits in. The other I kept my salt packets, my gu's (on the belt in the loops) and some gum. Best of luck!!

Wider toe box - you might want to check out Altra's or Skechers. Both have a wide toe box and Altra's are zero drop. I've also heard the Hookah shoe line is also famous for a wide toe box.

I run in Brooks and also just purchased a pair of Nike Pegasus (which I need to get inserts for because they do hurt my feet). Best bet is if you can get to that store 130 mile away, find out what type of shoe works best for your feet (are you a pronator? are you a mid-foot striker?) they can let you try on shoes in your…

Go get fitted! That is the most important part to running, you need to know what kind of runners you are (i.e. neutral, over pronator, under pronator, how you land, where you push off from). This makes a big difference with the type of shoes you purchase. Plus, you need to try them on and run in them. Most stores have a…

I have a regular energizer headlamp that I got at Walmart for $8.00. It throws out a lot of light and even blinks red if you need it to.

I've done two Disney races (third coming up in February) and while they are pricey, they are a whole lot of fun and are really well done. My final one will be next year (the Dopey challenge) and if I can swing it, the Tink in May but it's going to be a tough sell as Dopey is something like $600. But then, you are running 4…

I did the Wine and Dine in Disney and that starts at 10pm. Didn't finish until after midnight.. personally for me, I wasn't a fan but I know a lot of people liked it. I just hadn't trained at night other than running around 7 or 8pm. Make sure to hydrate a lot the day before and that morning. Don't walk a lot during the…

I hear you on this. I have fibro and asthma so running in the cold isn't always an option and with the bitter temps, snow and ice these past two weeks, I can't even think about running out there. Forget the YakTrax - they are garbage. My friend just bought two pair and both broke before she could even get into a 3 mile run…
-
Strength training is key also with your runs. Don't forget to insert some cardio other than just running as well as some simple weight training, lunges, sit ups, push ups, upper and lower body.

You are doing awesome!!! Congratulations to you -- keep it up. Just keep your head up, your chin held high and tell the world "I'VE GOT THIS!!" =)

I have the Garmin 310xt - I love it but then again, it gives me a whole lot for a fraction of the cost of the others, plus had the HRM included.
