  • I'm am losing weight at a faster rate now that I'm getting at least 10K steps a day. So it IS helping me lose weight.
  • Hello, I'm Gabrielle and my superpower may be ultra-cognition. I'm cognitive even in a bought of chaos. Even waking up from a perfectly good dream to check the time or answer a question and then going back to the same dream. Yep, I can do that. And I'm a lucid dreamer, so I guess that means I'm at least semi-cognitive when…
  • I bought my Fitbit Flex on Ebay. It's also $150 brand new, I think. So I didn't buy it that way. Got it for $54 on eBay. You might find a good HR there as well.
  • I got a clip from Shapeways. It's much more comfortable at night now.
  • I found that getting my "buzz" and those blinky lights has become quite motivating, with the challenges supplementing that. I never win a challenge so that's not as motivating. If there are people who regularly walk 15K steps a day, I'm not going to beat them with my sedentary job. But I set my goal at 10K and I'm reaching…
  • I got one on Shapeways, for less: http://www.shapeways.com/product/B7XYYHD49/pocket-clip-for-fitbit-flex?li=search-results-1&optionId=42870102. I even hooked it on my watch. And it's easy to still see the lights. It's 8.99 plus S&H.
  • I have a clip that I got from Shapeways. It didn't seem to want to count steps on my hip. I may give it another test, but I found it did work if I clipped it to a wrist watch (more like the wrist band, then).
  • Got my morning walk in after an hour or so in the office: 5 figure 8's of our floor. 9 minutes of walking. Hope to do that at least 2 more times today.
  • Would Tai Chi help? It's slow, gentle exercises.
  • Thanks! I didn't even know about that calendar. I just did Monday's since today's is a rest. I guess I "rested" yesterday. Not sure what "high knees" is exactly but did something with my knees high.
  • I think I know every utensil we have and I don't like cooking. My husband cooks. He's on a "Let's get away from processed foods" kick. Good for health. Hard for counting calories. I have to count each ingredient. So what's the alternative challenge? Jumping jacks?
  • No thank you. Not just water today. If I could only drink water, I would probably only manage 16 oz. I don't like water much, so if I think "I can only have water" it sounds like a punishment. I won't be motivated at all. I am trying to drink more liquid, including water though. By drinking tea in the afternoon (with…
  • woznube7, are you on any meds for depression. They can help take the edge off. I was to the point I couldn't function. I can function now. They helped that way. I was extremely dismal before the meds, especially with the PTSD I was facing. The meds helped. Now I can work on losing weight. I can't remember if I ate more…

  • I did a few of desk exercises, including leg ones.
  • I also have small weights in my office. I do arm exercises with them. I wander while I do, but I have the space and privacy to do that. It could be done sitting down though.
  • I can either go down to the gym and use equipment there. Or I can walk over to the next building (Union Station) and get on the Link, which is an enclosed walkway going from Union Station to Crown Center and over to the Westin hotel. It's a good long walk, with AC in summer and heat in winter.
  • Need more motivation to get up and move during the day. Tonight I'll have dance practice.
  • Had to clean some things out of the garage after a major storm got things wet last night. Also planted some more plants and pulled some weeds. Took a walk while dinner was cooking and got a headache to go with the lower back pain I got from the gardening.
  • I'll try. I get bored a lot here at work. I had a setback though. I was going to take a walk for lunch break. But then I accidentally forgot to take my antidepressants at 11pm yesterday. That triggers the side-effect: NO SLEEPING. Realized it at 1:25am and took the meds. Still didn't fall asleep for almost an hour. So I…
  • Got a bit of planting to do. Otherwise, there are a LOT of projects. I might get my lighter clothing out, except it keeps being a bit cold here for that. Might do it anyway.
  • https://www.fitbit.com/user/3FN3HJ Just got my fitbit Flex yesterday
  • I need more reasons to get up and move around. I do for my weights, usually in the early evening/late afternoon. But until then, I sit unless I have something to do, like go get much lunch or take an empty bottle to the recycle bin.
  • What kind of room do you have at the office? Is it fairly private? I got some $3.99 weights from Aldi's. Just 2lb walking weights, and I'll get up and do some arm exercises and lunges with them for about 7 minutes. I put a TV in and just did 18 minutes of a Tai Chi DVD I brought in. Small exercises up here in the very…
  • I count my walk from my car to office and back (I try to walk fast and carry a heavy backpack). I walk on a treadmill (may try a few other machines in the gym eventually) up to 4mph (avg 3.4 for 30 min). I do arm exercises and lunges with 2lb weights and I just got the TV set up to do Tai Chi here in the office. All that…
  • I'm going to keep Moving in May and maybe move more.
  • I'm a bored eater. When it's boring here at work, it's easy to say, "Oh, it's been another hour. I can have another snack." That adds up to a lot of snacking. So I'm trying to redirect myself at those times. I try to ask myself if I'm really hungry and if the answer is No, then I try to stay out of my lunch box.
  • No menopause here, but I did have thyroid issues. Oh the fun. Not. I now take synthetic thyroid and seem to have found the right dosage for me. Can't say if it caused any weight gain or loss in me. Seems I got where I am regardless. But I'll take that 30-day challenge too. I'm doing good so far. Weekends are usually spotty…
  • That happened to me my first time dieting. I was aiming for 110 and plateaued at 126. I had to exercise more to lose more. I actually signed up to walk a marathon. The training got me going down again. I ended up not doing the marathon because of the money commitment.
  • And just did 6 1/2 minutes of arm exercises with my 2lb weights (got 3lb weights at home, 2lb here in the office).
