I think it always depends on where you're coming from, dudes often have more to lose and almost always have more muscle, which burns more calories at rest. It can take me weeks to lose a few pounds and while guy friends who stick to a diet drop 20, but this reflects that I'm closer to my target bodyfat percentage.

Whey is recommended because it's convenient, cheap and quickly digested! But many people have some level of lactose intolerance, in which case either whey isolates or a different protein (rice/pea blends for example) are much better.

Yoga is great for flexibility training. Nothing replaces strength training with free weights! Exercises like squats and lunges and core work will build strength and help you as a runner.

If you can go get a snack, get something with lots of protein instead - a protein shake or a piece of cheese. Or, perhaps just some plain nuts. They are calorie dense but you only need a few to beat cravings.
