  • Search online for a local support group. Those are often free to attend and you will have face to face with people struggling as you are, as well as sage advice with education. If there is more than one group, visit a few a pick what helps you to gain and then maintain. I did a spiritual pathway project on the morbidly…
  • I have a smart phone. There is a "+" sign that allows me to add food at the bottom of the meal or snack. When it gives me trouble, I restart my smart phone and it works again.
  • Hi, I'm Sally. I am 55 and after 6 years of trying different ways to count calories to get under 200 lbs (Dr's orders), I finally made my goal of 150 lbs. Fitness Pal has been an easy counter for me. I do home health care normally and was a pastor or chaplain when calls came, most short term from 6 months to a 18 months.…
  • What type of support is good for you? I'm willing to be a friend and encourage and listen and brainstorm. Sally
  • I kept all my too small clothes and now am modeling them for my daughter. We laugh at how they don't fit in the belly, but may in the waist. Lesson learned is to ditch them all if they don't fit. So all slacks and pants are going. Most tops still fit. Sweaters are keepers. Skirts are yet to be modeled. Collecting for a…
  • Love the picture. You look great!
  • I recall very few obese people from my chilhood. I can visualize very few people who do not need to lose weight today. Technology encourages me to sit more to watch many more tv channels than I need or desire, lose myself in the black hole of the internet, or sit here typing on a smart phone a reply. Year's ago, seditary…
  • I manually enter my calorie goal. My doctor told me fitness pal would be too low. So I entered what he suggested as a daily calorie goal. I began maintaining on 12/24/15. Fitness pal's suggestion caused weight gain, so I'm entering my personal goal manually and looking for the balancing point between what I ate to lose and…
  • I do my best not to cheat on a particular day, but if something like the farm show comes up, I enjoy the day, count the calories, share a serving, and balance with exercise for a few days after to burn extra calories. A cheat day would be not logging anything because I know I'll beat myself up for over splurging.
  • Yeap, my mother had celiac. She would put rocks in her pockets and wear her heaviest clothing to visit her doctor. Her lowest weight with the rocks and extra clothes was 72 lbs for her 5' 7" frame. She was very skinny. My daughter tells me she fears I'm to skinny because she says my butt looks like mom's, although I'm 149…
  • 149 lbs. 5' 8" age 55 size 10 slacks med or large shirt large sweater
  • I don't have a scale, so I use the HIGI stations at the Giant Stores. I weigh in when I go grocery shopping, every 1 to 2 weeks. I just started maintenance on 12/24/15 and haven't figured out how much to eat to stop dropping weight yet. I don't worry about daily fluctuating since I don't weigh in daily.
  • Thank you. I just updated my goal to be no longer over weight on the bmi table. I have a way to go, but it feels great to be here.
  • Are you fasting for Ramadan? Or are you fasting by not eating anything? Or are you fasting by not eating a specific thing? I gave up sodas by fasting only the sodas out. Fasts can be done many ways. But it is recommended that you only fast with a doctor monitoring the fast where you avoid or severely lit food. They can be…
  • I like to swim too. But I don't have the stamina. I try to do a 500, that is 10 laps. I mix my strokes. I stretch first and then do 3 laps of easy strokes (side, back glide, breast stroke), then I add harder ones in (crawl, back stroke, life guard stroke), if tired I do some easy strokes. Of course I lose count of laps, so…
  • I'm at my old plateau. I can't seem to get under 202. Today I was visiting an elderly parishioner at a nursing home and asked if I could use the scale. A half dozen nurses encouraged me, waiting to celebrate that I finally was under 200. The scale said 203. I never heard so many suggestions for weight loss... "subtract 5…
  • I occasionally pick up a bag of honey bbq fritos. I'm really good at counting out 23, on serving. Then the bag looks half empty. I tell myself "There's not much left!" And I eat the remaining bag in one sitting. That is about 2 days of calories all at once. It's sad!
  • Eating a healthy lite breakfast it my cat trying to snatched a bite. Family too far away to sit with for a meal today.
  • I've had trouble locating trails too. It used to be easy to find them, now to access info you have to pay membership fees. It's frustrating. I'm hoping to find info on parking near access points for some nice day hike trails. My daughter tried to help and picked up what she thought was an Appalachian trail guide. It has a…
  • Miss Kris, what state do you hike in? NY? If so, we maybe near each other. I used to climb in the Gunks, part of the lower Adirondacks. Beautiful, spiritual terrain. Peace with each step, soulful peace.
  • I don't eat on hikes. I take water. I try to hold meals to meal times. High protein will give you energy and is light weight. Things like nuts or cheese. I tend to forage on hikes and eat wild berries, honey suckle, raw asparagus, etc.
  • That's what takes me into the wilds, beautiful noisy water!
  • Walked to church and back for lunch and dinner breaks.
  • I logged under walking and matched the time to a rough mileage using Google maps and local roads to guestimate. I haven't found any good trail guides with partial trail mileage listed. And local hiking trails groups haven't returned calls ask about books to locate trails.
  • 63 and breathing hard!
