You can check the amino acid components of foods at nutritiondata.self, but it's not really necessary if you have a balanced diet.

Dog's age, weight and level of activity are necessary considerations. It's also useful to know the feeding schedule, and what you currently feed your dog. Whatever you do, do not change your dog's diet suddenly. Changes should be gradual.

Some ideas: Blend: lemon juice, ginger, sesame seeds; collards (or kale) - tough stems removed - garlic, crushed red pepper, EVOO; avocado, cilantro, jalapenos, lime; tomatoes, garlic, basil; cucumber, garlic, mint, dill; tomatoes, onion, roasted bell pepper; cucumber, dill, lemon, EVOO or yogurt; If your issue with sugar…

Which tool are you using to calculate your BMR? While your logic is correct, the equation normally used to calculate BMR is an approximation and comes with a caveat: "The BMR formula uses the variables of height, weight, age and gender to calculate the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). This is more accurate than calculating…

Chickpea flour (besan), sorghum. You can bake with some lentil varieties, it's relatively common in regional Indian cuisine. Cassava flour can also be used (tapioca is the starch, there is also a flour raw or pre roasted). For fiber content I would go with oats flour.

Egg whites, unswettened gelatin, vital wheat gluten

I've never tried Sunwarrior. I've tried RAW (Garden of Life), PaleoMeal, and VegaOne. I like VegaOne best. I use them as meal replacement (specially when I travel). If I just wanted wanted the protein I would go for pea protein powders (it's much more affordable).

Kristy Turner has a cookbook titled: "But I Could Never Go Vegan - 125 recipes that prove you can live without cheese". You might want to take a look at it.

You can make peanut butter from any roasted peanut. Ideally unsalted. If you have a high power blender (Vitamix or the like) add 3 cups of peanuts and process on high for 1 minute. On a regular blender ( you still need a good blender) do 2 cups peanuts and add ½ cup peanut or canola oil to start the blending. Refrigerate…

There are nutritional shakes diet-supplements developed for people with diabetes ( Boost glucose control, for example). From a physiology perspective elderly are not adults - they have different needs and restrictions (including protein, they need less protein than an adult). On top of that they often take medications,…

How is your oral health? Did you ever use a mouth wash that contains chlorhexidine (they are prescription only in the USA, but over the counter in some other countries)? If you did, that will account for your inability to taste (yes, even years after the use). Did you ever use a tongue scraper? - (if not, do it). You may…

I'm not sure if this is the help you need. You can set your Macros (protein, carbs, fat) on "settings" "goals" "macronutrients goals". You can see them in the food diary (in the app slide down, hit nutrition, slide sideways until macros). The Premium version of MFP allows you to set your macros daily. Personally I think…

I find the study interesting - whether or not the algorithm developed brings positive results to the population willing to spend money on it remains to be seen. I would imagine that companies/researchers that sell/investigate nutrigenomics/nutrigenetics will take a good look at it. The only observation I have is: why would…

Labeling, yes. Banning, no. I have a gazillion issues with the FDA and with the USDA and with the lack of appropriate funding for them to do a better job. The supplement industry in the USA gets away with outrageously dangerous claims under the standard warning "these statements have not been evaluated etc...". I remember…

I'd say sockeye (the defrosted flesh is a deeper pink).

It's located in the "frozen vegetarian" section of all groceries stores I've been to in the US.

I third tofu scramble - my favorite weekend breakfast. I mix rolled oats with almond milk (sometimes I add chia seeds) and leave it in the refrigerator - the recipes say overnight, mine stay there days - as a grab and go breakfast. I confess I often skip it altogether, because I also find it difficult, and I'm rarely…

I think the effect of eating smaller meals is psychological, not physiological. It doesn't mean is any less real. Maintaining the glucose level relatively stable has been shown to have a positive effect on self-control, which is fundamental to control food intake. http://www.apa.org/helpcenter/willpower.aspx As for…

Egg whites, yogurt, eggs, cottage cheese, milk, etc. If you are a vegan pea protein powder.

Great. I show muscle definition on my abs at 22% body fat, but indeed used to look much better at 20% (I'm 48, I have upped my body fat, because it makes a huge difference in how I age). My trick to develop my abs has been to work on balance. Everything I do at the gym I try to do something that forces me to balance (it…

I think that there are two different issues here: one is body fat percentage, which you can control; the other is fat distribution, which your genetics control. Can anyone bring their body fat percentage low enough to see muscle definition on their abs? Yes. The problem is for some women that takes them way bellow the…

That splenda will mess things if you try to use it as a thickening agent on a stew. For my palate, it'll make things too sweet. I would go for a custard - either coconut or pumpkin (tis the season) - add can of coconut milk or can of pumpkin maybe some coconut flakes, eggs (you need the yokes), adjust sweetness, bake (bain…

OP, Cornell University has a BMR calculator for people who are healing/sick. I suggest you use it; if in doubt, ask your doctor.

OP, search "CDC salt home". Good information and tips. cdc.gov/salt/

I agree. Losing weight is about calories. Keeping weight off is about behavior. Besides monitoring my weight, I keep a "food diary" (i.e. I log without worrying too much about calories) because it nudges my self control. OP, you can do this: because you are declaring yourself not strongly motivated, and because you have…

OP, how old are you?

As it has been state above the answer is it depends - both on what one is trying to achieve, and the intensity of the exercise. The most common situation in which one machine vs the other makes a difference relates to impact on joints, not on aerobic fitness. Speaking for myself, I judge my own aerobic fitness not by…
