Either a calorie is a calorie or it's not. One calorie used in exercise is exactly the same as one less consumed calorie. What one cannot do, I agree, is to lose track of the overall equation to achieve the desired result (either a deficit, a balance or a surplus).

Yes.

I really, really don't understand why anyone would suggest that you have to stop drinking coffee on a weight loss diet. I'm not being sarcastic, I cannot phantom what the reasoning behind it is. Are you drinking enough water? Dehydration is a very common cause of headaches.

Yogurt or any other food with live fermentation might help you. If your evacuation is painful you may want to try a OTC stool softener (not a laxative). Look at your macros and try to swap some carb for fat, if your fat intake is very low. Good luck.

It freezes well. The ingredients proportions are 5 cups to 2 1/2 tbs. The milk temperature is almost boiling (you cannot keep your clean finger on the milk for 1 second). BTW if you don't have a press (I used a Japanese pickle press) the texture will be quite crumbly.

Doctor. Anemia caused by diet is easily treated, but anemia is also a symptom of other health conditions that must be eliminated. On the diet front, use a parsley pesto that has some acid in the preparation. Avoid calcium rich foods (and obviously calcium supplements) on the same meal you are trying to get iron.

Loving tomato soup is a great start! Tomatoes can mask lots of flavors (onions, celery, carrots, peas) You can add red roasted peppers (I use the jar ones) to it before you blend - it won't mask the flavor, but it's a great combination. Try carrot soup with a touch of ginger. You can invert the squash, i.e., serve him…

Try socca (it's essentially a baked chickpea flour, it looks like a pizza) topped with tomatoes and cheese. Dosa (Indian rice and lentil crepe) filled with mashed potatoes/cauliflower/peas. You can also make sweet treats using carrots and parsnips. My kids never ate a chocolate cake that did not have beets in it. It would…

CNS = central nervous system. Is it possible that you are underestimating your intake and eating at maintenance? Let me also add that, in my opinion, the relation between body composition and performance can only be assessed on an individual basis. You can lose weight and improve performance even if you did not gain…

Cornell University has an online calculator for non ambulatory/ recovering people. Google it (sorry I'm on the mobile, I can post a link when I get to a real computer).

It depends. From a physiological point of view from 17 on most teenagers are considered "young adults" - but they can have psychological sensitivities that tend to not be present at 24 yo, the other end of the "young adult" spectrum. If you have a specific person in mind you should consult a health care professional.

My advice: use a pressure cooker (I like Instapot for its versatility, but before that I used a $20 stovetop pressure cooker). Canned pulses are great, but overtime it's easy to get bored from the lack of variety. I also recommend the book "Quick Fix Vegetarian" by Robin Robertson (don't be fooled by the title, the recipes…

Foods that have live fermentation agents can help with digestive issues. Miso soup is another option in addition to the ones in the previous replies. Fennel tisane was an old home medicine for colic infants - I don't think it works (and it certainly should not be given to infants).

To lose weight in a sustainable way you should eat more than your BMR and less than your TDEE. Use a variety of on line calculators and average them out. When you eat a calorie deficit the energy your body needs has to come from somewhere and the human body has established pathways on where it comes from, nothing you can…

What does "short duration" mean in the context of this thread?

The problem I see with GMOs is not human health, but environmental risk. Even a small probability of catastrophic consequences is not one I'm willing to contribute to.

I think the difference refers to the traditional recipe for scrambled eggs which includes milk, cream and butter.

I would replace one of the rowing days for a lower body workout (at the very least I would add some lunges - weighted, forward and reversed).

Unless you have parathyroid gland problems, what too much calcium will cause is diarrhea.

If you have the opportunity, exercise. Contemplate (i.e. find something beautiful and take your time - no less than 2 minutes - enjoying the beauty). Self control (willpower) is about managing your interests across time: giving up something today for a future benefit. Imagine the tomorrow-self feeling grateful for the…

That will depend on the country you are in. In the USA, as a rule of thumb: if the quantity is expressed in volume it is or it includes the liquid, if the quantity is expressed in weight it does not. USDA labeling requirements do not allow a manufacturer to use one measurement of quantity for the whole package and a…

Google: Harris-Benedict equation. It's basal (fundamental) not base metabolic rate. The equation yields an approximation. As it has been pointed out, to know your BMR accurately you would need the volume of oxygen uptake in a controlled environment. Factors that influence it are simply too many to list but among the most…

Cheap is a relative term. Try Spring X Lafayette vegetarian restaurant ( SW corner). Still on Spring between Lafayette and Mulberry there are a salad bar and a creperrie. Or just go to Chinatown...

The best advice I can give you is: consult a dietitian. Your MD can refer you one (and in my State it would be covered by insurance). Crohn's interferes with the absorption of several important nutrients. And corticosteroids interfere with the absorption of others. Use a juicer to your advantage. Most centrifugal juicers…

I would look at it from another perspective: I'm 5'3", if I lose 5 lbs it makes a big difference in my appearance. One of my siblings is 5'9" he needs to tell people he lost 5 lbs because nobody notices it...

I find it much more affordable to consult a dermatologist to help your set a daily routine than to keep trying different products. I do get twice a year treatments (in my case, laser).
