I try hard not to let myself think in terms of "good" or "bad" foods, or that I can't/shouldn't have X, or anything negative and punitive. It's hard to deprogram yourself after a lifetime of this but if you can manage it, I think it's a positive thing for one's health and wellbeing. Everyone needs a treat now and then, and…

I'm always skeptical of anyone who feels the need to tell someone else they're fat. I've never met a fat person who wasn't perfectly aware that they were fat, including me. You cannot make someone else change their life. I think IF someone has a genuine concern for their partner's health, then there's a good way to…

Short term goal: to get under 200 lb. I'm currently 216. Long term goal is to get down to 120 lb. and then go on maintenance. Also hoping to get my diabetes in remission.

Some things are just hard to log. Like mom's homemade spaghetti sauce...a pinch of this, a pinch of that. I finally just left it off the log. I'm a little frustrated with the database in general and I wish they'd do a cleanup every now and then and get rid of the huge number of inaccurate and duplicate entries. When I try…

I have a bit of a different situation. I'm not married but I live with family members. I'm also a diabetic and a food addict. They have a huge sweet tooth. We share a kitchen and there are donuts, cakes, cookies, ice cream, candy, fast food, pizza and just about every other kind of snack and treat you can think of in my…

Food addiction is absolutely a real thing. I'm addicted to sugar and fast food, too. And remember fast food is specifically designed to target the pleasure centers of the brain and specific tastes (sweet/salty/fat) that make us want more. I'm also diabetic so my life is literally on the line. Many times I've felt so out of…

You can do it! I'm 46 and a type 2 diabetic. I started at about 226 and I'm down to 197 so far. I refuse to eat anything I don't like, I make sure I have snacks like yogurt and fresh fruit to keep the sweet tooth at bay and I try to eat high protein/low carb. I average 1000-1200 calories a day and I don't feel deprived. I…

I eat 1000-1200 calories a day six days a week, but Fridays I eat pretty much what I want. I don't think of it as a cheat day, but as a treat day. If I want cheese fries at lunch, I'm having them. And later, maybe I'll have a piece of cake and one of those little Friendly's sundaes in a cup. I'll nibble and graze, and…
