My mother is the same about everything I do really. She doesn't have tact or subtlety and offends on an unwittingly wide scale day to day. In the defense of any onlookers though, I guess it's easy to worry when you see people shrinking before your eyes, because let's face it overeating can be classified as an eating…

If you check out Michael Mosley books or interviews the Dr who does the Horizon programs on health, he was complaining about the same thing, that the NHS is still advising diabetics and the overweight to follow low calorie, low fat diets, but there may be changes coming because the next time it's to be revised is 2017.…

It was 300 the last time I was breastfeeding, about five years ago. At that time I just put it in as 300 calories of exercise.

Have you bought the book, there are a few in there and if you google 500 calorie meals you get loads. Are you hoping to fast until dinner time, as this seems to be the hardest option. Michael Mosley and the other author Mimi prefer breakfast and dinner with nothing in between so the 500 is split between those meals. This…

Add me if you want. I have about that much to lose too and the end of the year sounds like a good time frame to me also.

You could try the Courgette Fritata recipe on the MFP blog if you like eggs. I followed it with slight changes ( excluded Parmesan and added parsley, spring onion and a sliced chilli pepper instead). It came out great!

This surprises me as the last time I was pregnant the advice was to stay clear of eating things that will increase Vitamin A substantially in your system while pregnant. This includes liver and also cod liver oil. Maybe your gels aren't derived from fish liver and are safe for pregnancy, If so please don't worry with my…

I hope no one minds me adding them too, it's nice to see others from the UK and easier to pinch food ideas!

You're doing fabulously, well done! Like others have said you're doing it quite quickly if anything so you're well equipped to see it through to the end result. Small goal increments along the way will break it up and you'll have the sense of accomplishment boost each time you achieve a new one. This will undoubtedly help…

There is a book by Dr Michael Mosley called 'The 8-week blood sugar diet' that you might find interesting.

Thanks, forgot it wasn't exactly 200 for shakes more like 209-230 each. So men in total get 1560 calories. Women 1360. Actual calorie counting of 'food' per day is 900 for women, 1100 for men. [/quote] Hi - just to let you know that's " actual food calories" you also have two shakes or meal bars/ food pots which are…
-
I was just referring to the fact that poster doesn't think 900 calories or 1100 calories is valid calorie counting. The two shakes amount to 400 on top so on MFP it comes up to 1300 and 1500 in total. Actual food is being counted.
-
I didn't realise you had to count 1200 or more calories a day to be classified as a calorie counter?! On SF men count 1100 of their days calories and women do 900. I guess the deficit must make slimfasters lower on the calorie counting food chain somehow?

It's horses for courses Choppie70. I was just making that point on the flip side that the calorie counting that is so sacred to some, in a high percentage of people is going to fail when they reach goal weight just as it is for someone on meal replacements if they do not have an exit plan! I am on the Slim Fast plan at the…

All diets need an exit plan for maintenance, there is no reason to think that the low calorie dieters will have any better time maintaining the weight loss than the meal replacement lot as we all know people who lose weight, think they no longer need to calorie count and then pile it all on plus some. Most people on here…

I used to put 300 in as 'exercise'

The last time I tried losing weight (few years ago) was by going to one of these NHS free courses where they weigh you, give advice, give rules for weight loss and even give exercise sessions in the weekly slot. It was full of older ladies who couldn't exercise much so I didn't quite fit in when it came to exercising and I…

Heatwave, wow it's cold and gloomy today in Essex! If anything I'm huddled under a blanket and peeing loads because I'm feeling the cold lol. I suspect if you drink more water you'll stop retaining it in the heat?

Not sure if the OP is still here. I can't seem to load their profile anymore.

Thank you, when I've lost a bit of weight I'd like to do some excercising again and that looks like a nice goal to have. I always watch it on telly each year and am impressed by those doing it. Can't do it now as too much pressure on my knee. Seems I'm carrying around too much bulk around on a smallish frame.

I like seeing the day to day numbers as it helps me feel motivated, congratulated and/or informs me about guesses or choices made the day before. With these electric scales that show small increments it's so easy to see progress as opposed to conventional mechanical ones that I'd never go back to now. I use a trusty…

Wow that's great weight loss results and goal to do the London Marathon. I'd love to do that, what does the training involve?

I'm on day 16 of Slim Fast and have lost 9 lb so far so I completely understand what you mean by a little boost. I Don't know anything about Herbal Life personally but I have noticed there is a group on here for people following that. Maybe you could join that and get more info and support there.

I have a flat Salter one also. Had it for a few years and it's not let me down yet. It does however get annoying when the plate covers the display like someone says so if I need to weigh a plate I first put a bowl down, set it to zero and then put the plate on top. This way it's higher up and you can read the display…

If you did the 5 2 diet or 'fast diet' you wouldn't need to log. You'd eat normally for five days and 500/600 calories on two non consecutive days. It's supposed to be healthier than a low calorie diet, less fuss and gets better, quicker results and you wouldn't need to log obsessively (which in itself can lead people into…

I'm doing it now and so far quite happy on them. I've done it before years ago and I know it can work for me with a 2 lb a week consistent loss over a period of time. Once you've lost the weight you need to think about maintenance and not go back to old ways. It's good if you don't mind the shakes/meal replacement bars. I…

I normally do too and not much happened this time round either. I think it's because you retain water while menstruating and now that I'm dieting and drinking lots of water and cutting back the salt intake the water retention wasn't possible like usual. The more water you drink, the less water the body feels the need to…

Add me if you want guys. I'm on day 12 of a 1300 calorie diet. Started at 13st 3 lbs and had just tipped onto the obese BMI so am wanting to get that more squarely in the overweight range and then hopefully in the healthy range. Healthy range for my height is 7st 13 to 10 St 11. I might not be able to help so much with the…

Good luck with it Gemma, I'm on day 11 and loving the ease and structure to it.
