Maryanne, I’m hoping your surgery is over and you are successfully rehabbing now! Sending you positive thoughts and encouragement as you recover. Please let us know how you are doing, when you feel up to it.

Helene, some friends and I are thinking of taking a trip to Sanibel in early September. Is that a good time to visit and if so, can you suggest or recommend any places to stay? We are thinking we’d prefer to rent a 3 bedroom house or condo.

Maryanne, are you feeling prepared for your surgery? I recall you had a lot on your to do list to get ready for it. I hope all goes smoothly for you. We didn’t have a lot of fireworks here either, but some idiot did decide that 1 AM was the perfect time to shoot some off. That went on for about 20 minutes, then he either…

Helene, yes, we are not in that area, thankfully. There are people from our area who are among the missing or dead, however. It’s a very beautiful and popular area of the state and a lot of people enjoy camping there. The Guadalupe River is very popular for rafting and tubing in the summer as well. Truly horrific how fast…

Helene, how is the swelling and bruising now? I hope you are seeing some improvement by now. It’s been a busy week with doctor’s appointments, as usual, but otherwise pretty quiet. We had a couple from our old neighborhood over last night for wine and snacks and to see our new home. It was nice to be able to entertain…

Helene, just tell anyone who asks that the other guy looks a lot worse! I’m sorry you have so much bruising and swelling. I hope it dissipates quickly!

I’m so glad the surgery went well. Keep up with the icing and the bruising and swelling should heal quickly. I was fortunate to have almost no swelling or bruising with mine, and what I had healed very quickly.

Yay! Just got home after my follow up with my foot doctor. In his words, “I’m released back into the wild” with no further need to see him unless I start having issues again. He did advise that I limit my walking for the next 2 weeks and when I do need to walk for more than a few minutes to wear good supportive shoes with…

Maryanne, it’s actually our master bathroom. I’d describe it as “baby poop brown”, lol! I’m very happy to see it go, no pun intended! You do have a lot on your plate getting ready for your surgery. I hope you can get it all done, then relax and concentrate on your recovery after the surgery. That’s a job in itself, so you…

Helene, I suspect your eye doctor dismissed your concerns about your droopy eyelid as a vanity issue more than something affecting your vision. I wonder if his answer would have been different if you were a male? My sister has been here for a week visiting. I really enjoyed having her here and she was able to help me with…

Good luck with your surgery, Helene! I think I had that same surgery last year on my left eyelid. It was almost completely painless and I recovered quickly. I hope you have a similar experience.

My rash is much better now. I took a break for a few days from putting any cosmetics on or around the affected area except for some cocoa butter, and when it itched I used a new tube of max strength hydrocortisone cream. The rash is almost completely gone now and I haven’t experienced any itching for about 24 hours. I…

I’m about halfway through a large box of laundry detergent that I’ve been using for a long time, so that hasn’t changed. Same with the fabric softener I use. Last night I had to get up and wash my neck during the night. I rubbed some eucerin ointment into my neck and face and took some Benadryl, which helped with the…

Helene, that sounds like it was a lovely memorial to your BIL. I hope your DH found it comforting. This has been a fairly quiet, slow week for us. So far we have had no doctor’s appointments, which has become rare. It seems like most weeks we have at least 2 or more. I think next week we have 3. I am trying to get an…

Helene, I’m so sorry about your BIL. I hope you and your husband were able to see him before he passed. Praying for peace for both of them. I have to say that DH and I are very happy with our decision to move, but my feet aren’t taking it well. I spent 2 weeks in my big orthopedic boot on my left foot, followed by 2 weeks…

Maryanne, it sounds like you are doing a good job with your weight loss! It should really help with your recovery from hip replacement surgery, too. I’m sorry all of the pre-op programming is such a pain. We went through some of that before DH’s shoulder replacement surgery, too and it was annoying. Carrying mace with you…

DH is doing pretty well. He likes our new home and is glad we moved. He’s making very slow progress in setting up his study/lair and I’m trying to stay hands off on that. Before moving, he was determined to keep an enormous number of books and other things that he simply refused to part with, so I told him he could keep…

The A/C issue turned out to be a switch in the attic that got turned off. What we can’t figure out is how, because to our knowledge no one had been up there. The technician thoroughly checked out the system and told us it was in good working order. At our request he put a piece of tape over the switch and wrote on it that…

I think I forgot to mention that while all of this moving was happening, I also developed tendinitis in a tendon on the side of my left foot. For the past 2 weeks I’ve been in a boot but today I graduated to an ankle brace. What a relief! That boot is so heavy and so hot that I couldn’t wait to be liberated from it. The…

Maryanne, everyone I know who has had that surgery has said they wished they hadn’t waited so long to do it because they felt so much better afterward. It will be a difficult 4-6 weeks, but you should be feeling and moving a lot better by then. Some of my friends found it helpful to find out what exercises strengthen the…

Well, we are moved into our new home! I’m sitting here looking at a sea of boxes waiting to be unpacked, and having mild anxiety over how to organize it all, but we are here and the worst part of it is behind us. We still have a few things at the old house that we need to bring over today and tomorrow, but it shouldn’t…

We closed on both properties yesterday. Both were the easiest, smoothest transactions ever for us. It’s definitely easier and quicker when it’s an all cash transaction because there are way fewer documents to sign. Now we just have to finish packing and move! The packing is almost done. We still have a few small pockets of…

Today was a busy day. I’ve sold almost everything we no longer need for the new house. I just have a rattan chair and ottoman left, and I only listed it today so it may take a few days to move it on. I’ve made enough money selling stuff we don’t need anymore to pay for the move and the new furniture pieces I’ve bought. DH…

As of today, all the hurdles have been cleared and we are set to close on both the sale of our house and the cash purchase of our new one on April 21st. Our buyers agreed to lease our house back to us for 1 week at no charge to give us time to complete our move. So now I am trying to finish packing as much as I can while…

It’s the first house. It’s more expensive, but a much better fit. The second house looked great in the pictures, but not nearly as good in person. The first house requires very little work to make it very comfortable for us, while the second one would have required quite a bit of remodeling to make it work for us. The…

Our house sold in one day! The listing went live on Friday, a young family viewed it Saturday morning and submitted an offer that night. Today we negotiated the details and accepted a revised offer from them. We also finalized our offer on the house we found a few weeks ago, and it was accepted! Inspections will be done…

well, our listing went live yesterday afternoon and we had our first showing this morning. Our realtor is doing an open house tomorrow afternoon, and I just got another request for a showing. We also have found another house we are interested in seeing and have an appointment for this afternoon for that. It is in a great…

I don’t know how I did it, but the house is ready for the stager to come today. I need to do a little cleaning first, but otherwise it is about 99% ready. I need to hide a few more items that DH keeps bringing back out and take a few more things to Goodwill, then I’m done! I stepped on the scale for the first time in at…

The house is in a 55 and older community, but with manageable HOA fees, unlike most of the others around here. The house is built to be handicap accessible, so there will be no need to modify bathrooms, etc. The HOA will take care of all the exterior maintenance and lawn care. It’s in a great area, not very far from our…

I have been completely MIA this week. We made huge progress on our house and are in the final stages of having it ready to list. This morning started out as a fire drill though. I thought I had all morning to finish clearing everything from the floor of my bedroom and off all the surfaces so the carpet installers could…
