Helene, that’s disappointing that the PT options are so poor in your area. Hopefully you can get in soon after you arrive back in Florida and get a good therapist. After paying the attorneys’ fees, expenses, and repaying Medicare and my supplemental carrier, I will end up with about half of the proposed settlement amount.…

After meeting with my attorneys and asking a lot of questions, I decided to accept the settlement proposal that was offered by the mediator. The dollar amount was less than I had hoped for, but after considering the cost and risk of proceeding to trial, I felt that my best option was to take the settlement offer. My…

I’m meeting with my attorney this afternoon to discuss the proposal that the mediator submitted. The dollar figure is lower than I wanted, but my attorney seems to be pushing me to accept it. I have many questions I want answered before I decide so we are meeting to discuss. When my friend had her knee replacement…

It will be a jury trial. I only saw a couple of brief video clips from her deposition, but she certainly didn’t come across as likeable to me. Of course, I might be a tad biased, lol! I also learned yesterday that if it goes to trial and the jury awards me damages, I would be paid interest on the award from the date of the…

Yesterday I sat through a 4+ hour mediation hearing in an effort to settle my pending lawsuit from the car wreck I was in almost 4 years ago. In the end we did not reach an agreement and we’re still very far apart on the dollar amount being offered vs what I and my attorneys feel is a fair and reasonable settlement. The…

Maryanne, here’s a link to the one we bought for DH. You would need a different pad shaped for the knee instead of the shoulder. DH especially liked the timer feature. Also, we used frozen water bottles instead of ice — much easier to change out and less messy than filling with ice. Helene, ouch! I hope the home remedies…

Maryanne, it’s so good to hear from you! It sounds like you are doing really well. If you know anyone who has an ice machine, they are wonderful for recovery after joint surgery. My friend that I mentioned who has had both knees done swore by hers and DH loved the one we bought from Amazon for his shoulder recovery. It was…

Me, too. I have a friend (also named Maryanne) who has had both knees done and she seemed to recover pretty quickly. I hope our Maryanne has a similar experience.
-
Helene, I’m so glad you’re happy with the outcome of your procedure. I was very happy with mine as well and wished I had done it sooner. It’s been a rest and recovery week for me. We hosted our friends here at our new home last Sunday and, although I tried very hard to keep the menu as simple and easy as I could, it was…

Maryanne, I’m hoping your surgery is over and you are successfully rehabbing now! Sending you positive thoughts and encouragement as you recover. Please let us know how you are doing, when you feel up to it.

Helene, some friends and I are thinking of taking a trip to Sanibel in early September. Is that a good time to visit and if so, can you suggest or recommend any places to stay? We are thinking we’d prefer to rent a 3 bedroom house or condo.
-
Maryanne, are you feeling prepared for your surgery? I recall you had a lot on your to do list to get ready for it. I hope all goes smoothly for you. We didn’t have a lot of fireworks here either, but some idiot did decide that 1 AM was the perfect time to shoot some off. That went on for about 20 minutes, then he either…

Helene, yes, we are not in that area, thankfully. There are people from our area who are among the missing or dead, however. It’s a very beautiful and popular area of the state and a lot of people enjoy camping there. The Guadalupe River is very popular for rafting and tubing in the summer as well. Truly horrific how fast…

Helene, how is the swelling and bruising now? I hope you are seeing some improvement by now. It’s been a busy week with doctor’s appointments, as usual, but otherwise pretty quiet. We had a couple from our old neighborhood over last night for wine and snacks and to see our new home. It was nice to be able to entertain…

Helene, just tell anyone who asks that the other guy looks a lot worse! I’m sorry you have so much bruising and swelling. I hope it dissipates quickly!
-
I’m so glad the surgery went well. Keep up with the icing and the bruising and swelling should heal quickly. I was fortunate to have almost no swelling or bruising with mine, and what I had healed very quickly.

Yay! Just got home after my follow up with my foot doctor. In his words, “I’m released back into the wild” with no further need to see him unless I start having issues again. He did advise that I limit my walking for the next 2 weeks and when I do need to walk for more than a few minutes to wear good supportive shoes with…

Maryanne, it’s actually our master bathroom. I’d describe it as “baby poop brown”, lol! I’m very happy to see it go, no pun intended! You do have a lot on your plate getting ready for your surgery. I hope you can get it all done, then relax and concentrate on your recovery after the surgery. That’s a job in itself, so you…

Helene, I suspect your eye doctor dismissed your concerns about your droopy eyelid as a vanity issue more than something affecting your vision. I wonder if his answer would have been different if you were a male? My sister has been here for a week visiting. I really enjoyed having her here and she was able to help me with…

Good luck with your surgery, Helene! I think I had that same surgery last year on my left eyelid. It was almost completely painless and I recovered quickly. I hope you have a similar experience.

My rash is much better now. I took a break for a few days from putting any cosmetics on or around the affected area except for some cocoa butter, and when it itched I used a new tube of max strength hydrocortisone cream. The rash is almost completely gone now and I haven’t experienced any itching for about 24 hours. I…

I’m about halfway through a large box of laundry detergent that I’ve been using for a long time, so that hasn’t changed. Same with the fabric softener I use. Last night I had to get up and wash my neck during the night. I rubbed some eucerin ointment into my neck and face and took some Benadryl, which helped with the…

Helene, that sounds like it was a lovely memorial to your BIL. I hope your DH found it comforting. This has been a fairly quiet, slow week for us. So far we have had no doctor’s appointments, which has become rare. It seems like most weeks we have at least 2 or more. I think next week we have 3. I am trying to get an…

Helene, I’m so sorry about your BIL. I hope you and your husband were able to see him before he passed. Praying for peace for both of them. I have to say that DH and I are very happy with our decision to move, but my feet aren’t taking it well. I spent 2 weeks in my big orthopedic boot on my left foot, followed by 2 weeks…

Maryanne, it sounds like you are doing a good job with your weight loss! It should really help with your recovery from hip replacement surgery, too. I’m sorry all of the pre-op programming is such a pain. We went through some of that before DH’s shoulder replacement surgery, too and it was annoying. Carrying mace with you…

DH is doing pretty well. He likes our new home and is glad we moved. He’s making very slow progress in setting up his study/lair and I’m trying to stay hands off on that. Before moving, he was determined to keep an enormous number of books and other things that he simply refused to part with, so I told him he could keep…

The A/C issue turned out to be a switch in the attic that got turned off. What we can’t figure out is how, because to our knowledge no one had been up there. The technician thoroughly checked out the system and told us it was in good working order. At our request he put a piece of tape over the switch and wrote on it that…

I think I forgot to mention that while all of this moving was happening, I also developed tendinitis in a tendon on the side of my left foot. For the past 2 weeks I’ve been in a boot but today I graduated to an ankle brace. What a relief! That boot is so heavy and so hot that I couldn’t wait to be liberated from it. The…

Maryanne, everyone I know who has had that surgery has said they wished they hadn’t waited so long to do it because they felt so much better afterward. It will be a difficult 4-6 weeks, but you should be feeling and moving a lot better by then. Some of my friends found it helpful to find out what exercises strengthen the…

Well, we are moved into our new home! I’m sitting here looking at a sea of boxes waiting to be unpacked, and having mild anxiety over how to organize it all, but we are here and the worst part of it is behind us. We still have a few things at the old house that we need to bring over today and tomorrow, but it shouldn’t…
