at the end of the day it's all about calories and while this book doesn't promote calorie counting, when you look at the meal plan - it's a pretty moderate calorie plan - which is why there is weight loss.

i couldn't do it any other way. the way i ate to lose weight had to be the same quality and type of food that i would eat to maintain my weight loss. so far so good....maintaining 140 pound weight loss for almost 6 months (and i just ate two peanut butter chocolate chip cookies warm out of the oven)

You can buy anti-blister socks - they don't move as much when they're sweaty so the lack of friction reduces blisters. Now that you have blisters, you can buy blister pads or moleskin to prevent them from hurting or getting bigger. I prefer the moleskin since it's thicker than most pads and you can buy it in a roll and cut…

Starvation mode is a myth. Your body will only decide it's starving when it is ACTUALLY starving (less than 5% body fat). A plateau is simply when you haven't adjusted your calorie intake for your new weight. Your caloric goal should be reevaluated every 5-10 pounds.

i try not to make things harder on myself - i eat what i enjoy. i love to cook so i don't buy prepackaged foods and i prefer to eat fresh - i will buy canned tomatoes though. i'm also not a fan of saying i "can't" have something - i'm a grown up, i can do what i want, and if i want to eat something processed and terrible -…

You have the same number of hours in your day as everyone else. How you choose to spend them will determine how many steps you take.

i have a friend who says she never has time to exercise but will tell me about all the tv shows she's watching. you have to make time. i work from home - i don't have stairs to take or a parking lot to cross or a water cooler to get to - but i average 17,000 steps per day because i make time to walk. i walk my dog in the…

I'm in a position i'd never thought i'd be in - i spent the last year losing 140 pounds and have continued to lose while trying to figure out my maintenance calories. it's a mindf**k when you've spent so long trying to lose only to now be in a position to try to gain. i only want to gain 3-4 pounds - so my collarbones and…

I'm 41 and one year ago, almost to the day, i downloaded MFP and bought a fitbit - i've lost 138 pounds since then and have been at my goal weight for the past month. You can do it on your own! Just move every day and watch your calories. Make filling food choices - 200 calories of cauliflower is going to fill you a lot…

i'm having this debate with myself right now. when i have them on - i see the green numbers and feel like "it's ok, i can eat more" and i feel like this is slowing my progress. I just switched MFP to maintenance and i'm trying to figure out my maintenance calories (i'm not sedentary but i'm not sure if i'm lightly active…

That's not true - if you can't carry on a conversation you're working too hard. You shouldn't work until you're so winded that you can't speak - that means you're depriving your body of oxygen
