I order larabars from vitacost.com. Much cheaper than regular grocery stores. I place a big order with them once a month to get free shipping.

I don't think so. Acidic foods like tomatoes can cause it. Mine went away when I tried going vegan, so I have to wonder about whether too much animal protein can cause it. What else about your diet has changed?

I should have been clearer. She can look at the Paleo veg ideas and add meat if she wishes. They don't check up on you.

I second larabars. My favorite is chocolate chip cookie dough.

Google "no meat athlete" and search for "Paleo vegetarian" on that site. There's a post that will give you some ideas.

I'm not entirely sure how these systems work in terms of commitment but if you just want to try the food, people quit the program and sell the food they have left on eBay.

I'm wondering also if maybe you've set your weight loss at too high a rate. I am close to your weight, and I get 1930 calories a day. I entered that I wanted to lose only half a pound a week because I thought that being able to succeed at calorie counting was more important for me than fast weight loss. Since I have so…

For breakfast I have steel cut oatmeal cooked with frozen blueberries and raspberries. I add a small amount of almond milk. It's 218 calories.

I never get close to the sodium allowed, not even when I eat bacon. My guess is it's because I don't eat prepared foods such as frozen dinners, but that's just a guess. If you don't have high blood pressure, maybe don't sweat the sodium and other nutrients just now - you're just learning how to count calories. Can you plan…

I cannot tell you how much I love classic Coke. I'm like Mark Twain who said it was easy to quit smoking- he'd done it 100 times. When I was younger I lost 40 pounds in one year just by quitting. Now I drink it maybe twice a week. Everybody is different. You need to figure out what works for you.

I eat them daily. Getting an electric pressure cooker changed my life. Lately I've been experimenting with African spices from the Teeny Tiny Spice Company. Throw those in the pressure cooker with beans and vegetables and serve over rice. Fantastic.

Plant based is a problematic term. It's being used by Engine 2 etc to mean no animal products at all. None of the blue zone cultures eat that way completely with the exception of Loma Linda - and in that case only some of the population does.
-
I think another thing to consider is what people in the so-called blue zones eat. These are the longest lived people in the world and none of them eat vegan or Paleo. But they all eat a lot of unprocessed plant foods, which is ideally how both of those diets work.
-
I think that what the two diets have in common is very important - lots of fruits and vegetables and as little processed food as possible (considering that flour is processed). Although both diets will result in weight loss for many people, I tend toward thinking plant-based is a better approach because I know of no…

I don't think anyone has mentioned PCRM yet. They have a vegan kickstart, a 21-day support program that begins at the first of every month. They also have a lot of recipes. Vegan.com has a lot of information as well, including recommendations of books by vegan dietitians. Eating vegan at home is actually not very hard once…

If you have a decent library go there for cookbooks rather than buying. Some rely heavily on vegan junk food. There are many good websites with recipes. My favorite vegan cookbook is Vegetarian Cooking Under Pressure.
