I have been using a scale for 8 months now. I thought I would always need to use it. I started to play a game with myself, guess and weigh. I am getting pretty close these days. At lunch I was right on spot with one food, a gram over with one and 2 grams under with another. I like the data and will probably continue to…

We know the cause of pregnancy too, yet unplanned pregnancy happens all the time too. As a parent of teenagers, I am interested in things that may cause a teen to engage in risky sexual behavior. I think the same is true of obesity. As I became obese, I knew what caused it, how to prevent it and how to reverse it. I didn't…

Thanks gals, she has all the data she needs for the project. I have no exercise shoe loyalty, it is all about the fit and performance for the chosen activity. But Birkenstocks have been my summer shoe choice since Clinton was in the white house.

When I was over 200 lbs. I consistently lost 8 lbs a month, now it's a little harder. To lose at that rate you need to create a deficit of 1000 calories a day. Unless you are obese it is not healthy for you to create that much of a deficit.

She needs one more and apparently not many of the people she hangs with are into fitness.

Thanks for the replies. I am currently loving my Asics. I agree with the running store advice. My daughter is a student at University of NE and she is doing a class assignment and needs to interview someone about them. Could you help her out?

I never hit the finished post so it doesn't show on my news feed. Because of some comments here, I may change my like patterns.

For some goals I try for the green and some red. For example, I try to keep my sodium number green so my goal there is to keep it under the 2300 mg. max. but for my protein, I want that to go red everyday so 90 grams is my min. With calories I use 1200 as a daily min, and my maximum varies with the aim of a weekly deficit.…

My guinea pigs ate each other's poop for health. I am not a guinea pig in the figurative or literal. I will leave the human trials to someone else, I plan to continue with the more palatable plan of eating less and moving more.

If only my family ate from the refrigerator first, I would never have to through away spoiled food. Who has the time to completely refill their refrigerator 3 to 6 times a day? The problem with this study is the focus is on how often, while completely ignoring how full, you keep the refrigerator. I prefer to buy my…

I lost 22 kg in 30 weeks, which averaged out to about 1.7 pounds per week. Your goal is attainable in my opinion without such a small calorie allowance. If you are accurately measuring and logging your food, you will lose weight a kg a week with net calories of 1200 or over. Eating more will give you room for all your…

I love pbfit, peanut butter powder. You can have more without the guilt. For me fiber fills me up so spread this on some celery and I am good to go. Also if you have to mix it, I am more likely to measure and track.

Sorry to inform you but @TigerTebb is probably incorrect. While gaining a pound of muscle a week is possible for a male it would take near perfect training and nutrition. It is much more likely to be fluctuations in water retention. Continue with the exercise, count your calories for food and exercise as accurately as…

Realistic expectations for me came from education. As I studied how successful people got there, I discovered a slower consistent pace. Also shifting the focus of what was gratifying. Significant changes in blood test results, strength, as well as scale measurements are visually delayed. There are daily goals, steps,…

Keep trying. "Paleo" and "clean" do not equal eating at a deficit seems to be what you have learned. That is a great start. I find the most satisfying and sustainable plan for me is to eat adequate protein and higher fiber with an 80/20 mix. 80% of my calories coming from high nutrition to calorie balance and 20% of my…

I have not been consistent in taking measurements with the tape measure. In the past I have done it when the scale wasn't showing a loss and I needed some other marker to see progress. Sometimes 10 days apart but always at least once a month. I am going to follow this thread to see how others do and their reasoning.

Speaking for myself, I am concerned about your diet and muscle loss because when I have done similar things I became very ill. Most of us have to work very hard to gain muscle and pay for 'living' expenses.

This reminds me of my son, when he was younger and added sound effects with his action figures. One of his favorites was "douche", like a whoosh and an explosion together. His older siblings and I tried to discourage him from using it, but were unsuccessful until explaining to him the meaning of the word. He was sorely…

All or nothing thinking is a cognitive distortion that can fuel depression, anxiety and anger. I can not recommend it as a viable strategy.

I needed accurate measurements to really believe that CICO was working. When I weigh all my solid food on a digital kitchen scale in grams and choose accurate entries from the data base, I insure the measurement of CI is as accurate as possible. When I used a Fitbit for measuring activity, I insure the measurement of my CO…

I was consistently following a lower carb and sodium, higher protein and fiber diet last April to July. As a post menopausal obese woman, I consistently lost 2 pounds every 7 days. When I began strength training and was lower on the obesity scale that consistency changed. I began to lose in a more erratic fashion, but I…

Why the variation? Because the human body contains a mixture of fat, muscle, connective tissue, bone, glycogen, glucose, DNA, bacteria, gases, food in various stages of digestion and water. When we are reducing CI and/or increasing CO to create a calorie deficit, we can and want to decrease some of the bodies content of…

I have done something this time in my weight loss journey that I didn't do any of the previous times. I have taken Maintenance breaks. The first one was for a month this summer and the second one I just ended was six weeks long. During both of these time periods I purposefully maintained weight. I know what it takes to…

There is a bakery called the Rolling Scone in some US cities. But let me get this straight, porridge for breakfast, bangers and mash for dinner and clotted cream for tea. Strange things you Brits get up to in the kitchen.

I do almost 2 hours of cardio, 6 days a week. 50 minutes of that is walking with friends in the early morning and the rest is elliptical or treadmill when the weather is yuck or outdoor walking when it is nice. I also do 3 days of stronglifts 5X5. People who are in training for marathons do much more than we are. I feel…

If you are getting your protein from the usual sources, dairy, meat, whole grains, nuts and beans, you are unlikely to be able to over indulge in protein while in a deficit. If you consume massive amounts of supplemental protein powder for long periods of time, you can harm your organs, but it is rare.

At one point I was 5 lbs heavier than US Thanksgiving day. Now that I have lost all the water I was retaining from salt and carb overload, I weigh .2 pounds more than Thanksgiving morning. I worked my indulgences off by attending the gym 6 days a week during the season.

I really hope that an added sugar category be added to the food label. If the livestock producers did not have such a powerful lobby, red meat would be the devil too and processed meat would be the worstest devil of them all.

Keep your eye on the prize. It helps me to have goals. One big one at the end and many small ones along the way. I have mini goals, that have consisted of, getting into a size smaller piece of clothing, losing a certain percentage of body weight, getting to the weight listed on my drivers license, being under a certain…
