  • I retired a belt this week. It's no longer holding up my pants. I'm wearing a belt that I haven't worn for several years. I'm thinking that the pants will be retired soon.
  • Totally agree. Got to have sugar in my coffee. My big sis uses artificial sweetener in tea which she does perfectly, but I can't ever seem to get it right, so I use a little sugar.
  • Great post indeed. The electronics don't control what we put in our mouths - we do.
  • AWESOME!!!

  • Taste buds change with age - normal. I used to love chocolate, now it's marginal at best. Never liked nuts as kid, now I just love salted in shell peanuts. Didn't like spicy food as a kid, now love it.
  • I'm a weekend commuter - have an apartment 2 hours from my home. In my apt, mostly healthy foods, no snack stuff, no sodas, etc. I get home on weekends to chips, crackers, sweetened drinks, restaurant leftovers. Very difficult for me to stay away from that stuff. Every weekend is a struggle.
  • I too am just doing the salt that was in food and not thinking about the salt shaker. I never thought about measuring the salt I add at the table (I don't know why because I measure everything else). Thanks for opening my eyes too. (that's why I like these community forums especially for us who are a bit senior).

  • Simplistically, it is CICO. However, the calories out is the problem for me. It seems like the more you read the more conflicting information you get. That's the frustrating part for me. Metabolic differences hormonal changes age is also a factor..
  • Is anyone else out there afraid to get rid of clothes that are too big. I just can't force myself to give them away even though I hope I never wear them again.
  • Good to see other "old" people here. I'm 55 and exercising more than I have in years. Having fun too. Mom216, you seem to have a large tongue, lol.
  • Ditto with the food scale. I always have it out. When I was first starting, I had a notepad next to the food scale so I couldn't conveniently forget how much something weighed. Fried chicken is my weakness. I still eat it, but I now weigh it.
  • You may still be gaining muscle even with only doing cardio. The scale is a tool - nothing more. Get the tape measure out and see how much smaller you're getting.
  • To be honest, I HATE weighing because it's too easy to get depressed, then I eat. Weighing for me is only to establish my daily max calories. I haven't stepped on scale in 3 weeks.
  • 55 here. Never too old.
  • Where do you find the diet/fitness goals wizard?
  • You could also have a metabolic imbalance brought on by a medical condition. If it doesn't change soon, you might want to see your doctor and have blood chemistry tests done. I had low thyroid and didn't even know it, but was tired all the time.
  • Same dilemma here. I'm big, 3XL, and shirts are looking a bit baggy. I like wearing shirts that are baggy that were tight before.
  • I'm on week two. I used MFP three years ago and lost 60 pounds. Then gained it all back. Last week was hard for me too but this week is much easier. It will get easier soon. Your body just hasn't adjusted yet. All in due time. Circle a day on your calendar one month from now. That's your goal. On that day look back at your…
  • I just finished my first week. I agree that the first week I have noticed a few changes but nothing big. The biggest change is my loss of appetite. It seems like it is getting easier for me to keep my calorie count down.
