  • You might also try backing off a bit on the intensity and lengthening the exercise time. You'll get the same numbers of calories burned but you may have more energy. Also, now that that weather is warming up, you might want to exchange the elliptical workout for a 2-3 mile outdoor walk.
  • For me, it's harder to stay focused as I get older. Also, it's harder to get motivated, and I never used to mind exercising in the cold, but that, too, has gone by the wayside.
  • Wintertime is also hard because we spend lots more time indoors and around food. My aha moment was the piece of cookie, the "little handful" of potato chips, few crackers, little bite of leftovers in the fridge, bite of this/that, etc. which added up to hundreds of calories. The thing that helped me most initially was…
  • I hear you. I had the same thing happen to me this past summer with working all day, then doing hard exercising in the evening, then a light meal, TV, going to bed early, and getting lots of sleep. I lost 40 pounds, but I can remember thinking is this all there is? New year and new mind set. Now, I've started back up with…
  • I was watching a healthy cooking show recently - unfortunately, I don't remember who the host was. He said the easiest advise to follow was to buy foods that will rot.
  • Just had annual physical. Thirty-three pounds lower than last physical. Dr. reduced my high blood pressure meds 50%.
  • ... and sometimes they use that little bit of edgy sarcasm as a motivator.
  • You might be taking offense when none was meant. Look at it another way, she might have been sending a subtle message to the YOUNGER audience that fitness isn't just for the young - it's for everyone. Who knows, maybe a parent of a younger attendee will be encouraged to go because you are there. Wouldn't that be totally…
  • Oh man, weekends are the worst. I travel, so it's really easy to stay on track and get my walking in. Lots and lots of weekend temptations from church donuts to the bad of chips.
  • That's exactly why I stopped being a slave to the scale. Spread out your scale visits. If weight keeps rising, then either you're not counting accurately, or there's something else going on.
  • I took a few weeks off, ate what I wanted, then weighed myself. Gained a few pounds (no surprise). Now I'm as motivated as ever. Sometimes taking a little break can be a good thing.
  • Awesome weight loss. Does age matter whether to get the surgery?
  • Excellent point! I've never thought about why I eat mall food at Christmas but can pass right by in the summer. I thought it was me. This year, they won't win. The peppermint latte I usually get at the mall at Christmas is loaded with calories and fat. I'll make it at home this year, so I can control the contents. Thank…
  • The suit I wore for my son's and daughter's college graduation ceremony. That same suit fit easily 2 years earlier at other daughter's graduation, but barily fit this time. I realized that I had been kidding myself into thinking I've been losing weight.
  • Was out yesterday doing my usual walk in my apt complex, when a car stops and a lady leans and says that I look really good.
  • Sue, I know what you mean. Have you tried going to bed when everyone else does?
  • I have an apt that I stay in on week nights and drive home on weekends (2 hrs away). Keeping within my calorie goals is easy on week nights, but tough on weekends with a house full of junk food. My goal for today is to not eat the junk food when I get back home. Really a struggle.
  • I have a stack of baggy clothes and a huge suit but am too reluctant to get rid of them. At least they aren't hanging in my closet anymore.
  • 5 gallon bottle of water and a rack of baby back ribs
  • That is awesome!
  • My problem may be the opposite. My resting heart rate when I'm exercising regularly is about 60 bpm. Yesterday, after a vigorous 3 mile walk (4 mph rate) it peaked at 116 bpm. The highest ever was 150. I'm feeling the best ever which is what matters. I tried jogging but knees hurt too much.
  • I'm a field consultant and usually wear company logo shirts every day. Had a office day the other day so I wore a polo-type shirt - not a company shirt. Office administrator noticed that I had lost weight. Owner of company said he noticed my shirts were a bit baggy. Gave me the shirt catalog and said he'd pay for the new…
  • Ok. Thanks Nikki
  • My somewhat NSV is I ordered a new pair of walking shoes because I wore the other ones out. Not really a victory but at least the shoes are being used.
  • You all are so awesome. I've lost 37 lb so far after starting out over 300. I'm just walking now but have cut 5 minutes off the time (3 miles), and recovery time is a lot quicker. Good things to look forward to.
  • Maintaining while you are on vacation is a VICTORY!

  • I'm doing a cookbook called Cookbook of the Year. I think it was published back in 1995 or so. It's daily recipes that are simple, relatively quick, use regular ingredients, high in fiber, low sodium, and low fat. It has a weekly shopping list and the food really tastes good. For those in a 1 or 2 person household. It's…
  • Monthly donuts and coffee after church yesterday. I'm in the group that sponsors it. I had coffee, but no donuts. It will be tougher in 2 months though, it's my turn to get the donuts and the person who gets the donuts gets to take extras home. Any suggestions for next time?
  • Weighed in yesterday. A total of 37 lb gone now. Yeah!!!

  • I'm still way, way out in Twoderland. I left Threederland last month. I'm just renting in Twoderland for now because I'm not planning to make this a permanent stop. I admit Twoderland is much nicer than Threederland.
