When you fast your insulin is not spiking and causing hunger. Jason Fung has a lot of good information about the calories versus hormone aspect of weight/health. He advocates fasting.

Thank you. I nibbled on goldfish and finished my daughter's omlette. I may break low-carb and have a carrot ginger soup for dinner if I can tolerate it. I can always get back on track when my stomach is better.

You can mix the seaweed in with your cauliflower rice.

I lost 40lbs last year and made several health improvements. Now I dwell on the bags under my eyes and the onset of jowels. I like the Buddhist saying "the cup is already broken." It gets me through the middle years.

When I first started I used a sports electrolyte packet that had around 400mg of Potassium. I read that I needed around 1,000mg on top of what was normally in my diet, so I drank 1.5 packets and also had an avocado and likely some almonds. That was way too much for me. I almost hauled myself to the ER for rapid heart beat,…

I'd like to add a word of caution: don't get too much potassium. When I started I over-supplemented and had crazy hear palpitations. I use lite salt (half potassium) on most things, eat leafy greens and avocados. I also take a magnesium/potassium supplement.

I'm doing fine, but my appetite returned with a vengeance. I'm wondering if the "low carb" tortillas I had earlier this week kicked me out of ketosis.

I'm still addicted to sweetness in my coffee and drink a lot of it during a day. What are the lowest carb forms of sweetener out there? I made the mistake of not logging my stevia, somehow I equated zero calorie with zero carb.

Thank you for the insightful comments. I know 5.4 isn't a high number, but I have severe diabetes in my family. My mother died at 57 from a heart attack caused by diabetes and my grandmother had both legs amputated. I'm a late-in-life Mom myself, so in light of this history I am extra motivated to stay healthy (who isn't,…

I have heart disease risk - my mother died of heart disease at 57. I take nattokinase (for the vitamin k and enzymes) and lots of garlic (look up black garlic - it is very potent).

Excellent! Keep up the good work.

Woohoo! My A1c dropped from 5.7 in October to 5.4 this week. We bought a used Instant Pot for making bone broth and other yummy things. My weight is down to 161. Things I need to work on: 1. exercise! This has fallen off the radar in recent weeks 2. plan meals 3. learn new recipes 4. fast one day a week

SW: 201 (Jan. 2016) Keto start weight: 177 (Oct. 2016) CW: 161 GW: not sure, but 150 sounds about right I had my Dr. appointment on Monday, but my monthly water gain was still trending down. I'm down 2lbs in 2 days. Oh well. I'm anxious to see what my A1c is after 3 months on keto.

I'm basically maintaining. I need to exercise more and incorporate more fasting. I see my Dr. tomorrow and some of my monthly bloat is still lingering as of this morning. I really wanted to be closer to a healthy BMI (159), but I'm now 4 pounds away. I hope that by tomorrow that will be 3. I opted against the Instant Pot…

I was doing quite well over the holidays until New Year. I watched three other little ones in addition to my own. I made mini-pizzas for them and found myself scraping the topping off a few bites for myself. I think I accidentally ate some of the crust, too. On top of that I ate too many salty almonds and pepperoni. I…

My main goal for January is to drop into the 150s, which would be a healthy bmi. I also plan to shift from cardio to weight and flexibility exercise. In particular I want to improve my posture. I never bought the darn instant pot and have yet to make the bone broth I said I would last month. Not sure I want another…

I can say that my loss didn't match up to my CICO until I started keto. I'm now losing consistently a pound a week (sometimes more) while DROPPING 5 days of elliptical work. I still walk a lot (don't drive), but as a former NYer and non-driver, I always have. There was something downright WEIRD about my huge gain after…

No way! You look like a different person. Good advice.

This is the only time of year I'm a teensy bit happy that we haven't made friends in this city and our families live far away. The only goodies foisted on my have been a handful of cookies from a little one's Mom and an annual box of See's candy from my Dad. In January I'll go back to being grumpy about the "Seattle…

Thanks for sharing. My a1c was 5.7 in October and I suspect part of it is due to stress (tantruming child almost daily, anxiety about driving). Not to mention stress triggers hunger for me. I think low-carb is helping me with stress.

I started on Oct. 12 and have lost 12 lbs., which puts me at about 165. I was hoping to lose another six before Jan. 10th for my Dr. appointment, but that seems very unlikely now. I am losing about a pound a week. I'm pretty thrilled to be losing at all.

If you are insulin resistant carbs make you fat. Look up Gary Taubes.

I'm 42. Feel free to add me.

My goals are: 1. Learn new low-carb recipes to keep boredom and temptation at bay 2. Eat more raw vegetables (I have been a fan of frozen, cooked for convenience) 3. Make bone broth (trying to resist the purchase of an Instant Pot, but may succumb) 4. Reduce my daughter's consumption of sugar 5. Of course, lose weight (4-…

Hi. I started keto two weeks ago. I'd love to make friends on the same path.

Thanks everyone. This is pretty exciting. I was expecting the last 25lbs to take at least 5 months.
-
I'm tip-toeing into this. I had a good day yesterday, but need more time to research recipes and understand macro proportions.

Someone told me that when you crave chocolate during your cycle it points to a need for magnesium.
