In one of my temp jobs at uni involved auditing a busy London A&E department, so sitting around in the department for only a few hours I heard the most amazing/funny/embarassing things. I don't know how the receptionist copes with that on a daily basis. especially as my natural reaction to most of them was 'why on earth…

Thanks I never thought of that, I'm in London so I'm sure there are plenty around!

I use Frankincense oil as a perfume, just roll a little on to my wrists, I picked up a big bottle in Egypt but I'm always on the lookout for more as it won't last forever, but whenever I try and look it up I'm told it'll cure/prevent cancer, boost my immune system and probably buy me a yacht.

Alternative medicine is dangerous, not only because the 'treatment' doesn't actually do anything but it is done as alternative to medical intervention. So the underlying condition isn’t dealt with. Now if that’s an infection it usually gets better by itself because the immune system is a wonderful thing. Voila ‘it must’ve…

That is also exactly how I took it, also when the discussion was about how many children had died due to their parents alternative 'medicine' the justification of ronjsteele1was that we were confusing homeopaths with naturopaths......

Whut? As I've said I'm in the UK, with our 'commie-medicine' all profit goes back into research and funding further care. Basically being ancient doesn't make it good, people have been marrying off their children, committing FGM, trepanning, sacrificing animals/people to gods, selling other people as property for…

And the immediate response is thank *kitten* for that.... what states don't have legal consequences for child abuse? I don’t buy the argument that parents know best. Most love their children, and have best interests at heart but all you need to be a parent is the ability to conceive. And frankly an ill-educated 14 year old…

To the OP, I'm sorry you found a quack, It can happen to anyone, Glad you recognised it though and you get appropriate care. I’d always recommend your GP or equivalent. I went for treatment for my migraine through occupational health, and ended up with an acupuncturist… Needless to say I still get migraine, probably due to…

I had a read through, take home message seems to be balance based on need with a bit of a scare factor. It's certainly cold and dark enough here that I’m not going to stand outside for 5-30 minutes with 30% of my skin uncovered. So I will continue to supplement through the winter. Although I don't know anything…

I take Vit D because of the current advice from the NHS. But I don't think it has any magical properties. I also take Iron as a nurse advised me mine was a bit low. Generally though I aim to get a varied diet that will give me adequate micro nutrients without supplements. Some people will need specific requirements based…

So I tried it, it wasn't sustainable for ME. I became a raging nightmare.... but I did read up about it before my 3 or 4 abortive attempts. The idea is to eat 500kcal (women) or 600kcal (men) gross on 2 non-consecutive days and eat ‘as normal’ the rest of the time. The primary aim is to lost weight without tracking along…

I think it's very personal. Every time I've tried to lose weight before for an event I've put too much pressure on myself, had a bad day then.... But this time I've realised that time will go on whatever I'm doing, so might as well be doing the right things with no time frame. I'm realistic that this will be a 2 year…

I couldn't cope with 5:2 as a WOE but I did read the original book, and it suggests 500kcal for women and 600kcal for men. The idea that it was 1/4 of usual calorie intake

That actually made me snort, I'm aware that mine may get a bit smaller but I will never lose all that glandular tissue just currenly playing the will it/won't it fit game. I've been buying bras that are a too small on the band, using a bra extender gradually moving it in till I don't need it since my cup is pretty static.

This is how I use it, the only thing I will track additionally is swimming (where I can't wear my tracker)

Honestly YouTube and pintrest are your friends, I sew, embroider and knit but it's mostly self-taught with some pointers from family/friends. If they are clothes you love you can alter them yourself, or just use the fabric to make yourself something new. I've definitely cannibalised some of my husband’s old shirts to make…

@VintageFeline may be worth having a look at Ted and Muffy if you're in the UK (yes I did ballet growing up) I own the only pair of boots that have ever fitted from there, they've been resoled twice because I wear them so much. I've gone down from a UK 20/22 to a UK 16/18 in tops at 2 stone lost, though I've only gone down…

So I was friends with this guy for 2 years, and he was the most adorable, kind and wonderful man. After being fantastic friends and choosing to spend most of our free time together I eventually had to go 'Look are you going to ask me out or what?' and he did, (coincidentally 8 years ago today) he didn't know I liked him,…

It's those reasons that make me weigh daily tbh. I know if I weigh daily I've not put on 2lb overnight (sodium, hormones, hydration, whatever) but if I weigh week 1 on a 'low' day and week 2 on a 'high' day I'd be likely to quit! Weighing daily has allowed me to figure when I retain water (always the day after a Nandos…

One of our friends fainted at the aformentioned orange wedding, and she wasn't a normal weight (then) I think food is a part of it. Part of it is just the weird structure of weddings, people don't drink enough because they don't want to constantly be in the loo, lots of standing around abnormally still so your blood pools…
-
Damn I was hoping someone would know.....
-
Totally, as my florist and my mother recommended, you don't want your wedding photos to look like someone else is marrying your OH. And eat a decent breakfast and a moderate amount of water before the ceremony, you don't want to faint and weddings contain a LOT of standing around. Get some shape-wear if you're…

When I was eating 100% I wasn't losing the 1lb/week that was scheduled, so I decided to tighten the logging and move to eating 75%. You may want to see if you lose as expected on 100% before you start adjusting things. I use a fitbit, but I track 100% of my exercise/activity then adjust my calories to re-add 25% the…

It's up to you there are people here who do both, I've set my profile to sedentry, even though most days I'm not. I then let my fitbit add the kcal it thinks, and I eat back 75% of that, with allowing negative adjustments. I'm losing steadily as expected. you may just want to set yours for highly active if your days are…
-
That's a good point actually, I forgot about the profiles Me and my OH have one each,

I have one and use it daily, Bit of a PITA to set up the first time, but worked beautifully since. I track all my food in MFP and activity and weight using Fitbit. The joy of the Aria scale also works on www.trendweight.com

Well there should be a strong correlation between sewing skills and chemistry lab time. My sister definately got better at sewing to cover all the acid damage to her clothes. Maybe it's a curve, the better you get at chemistry the less harmful crap you drop on yourself. @daniip_la could you confirm? with a graph and some p…

Honestly we just eat really late, I quite often won't get in till 19:30, sometimes we won't eat till 9 or 10, We have one period of time where we cook dinner, portion for lunch the next day and package for breakfast. I'm not saying it's the right way but it's the way that works for me and my husband. I find if I beat…
