  • I'm not as proficient at stats as I want to be (because I forget stuff). But many times I've been discouraged from learning or persuing Maths because I'm female. Breaks my heart that there are people with fantastic potential that have been put off. Due to my job I have a better working knowledge than most, and yet still…
  • My FIL is younger, but exactly the same, he's currently on Lustig... but fortunately he gets bored and never reads labels. So his dietary style roughly translates as 'it's only carbs if you have to chew it'. Cue long lecture about how calories are bunk, me and my DH need to follow x diet (despite both losing 50lb+ just…
  • I thought everyone was looking at me because I was fat. I then needed some surgery on my jaw which left me with a puffy face, hamster cheeks and black eyes... Now I know what it's like to be stared at because of your appearance. I can now accept the usual glances from strangers.
  • The first dozen or so times I tried to lose weight I gave up after 2 weeks, just because I didn't know about the fluctuations...
  • Malt vinegar is just the standard one here in the UK, but if you get the cheaper one it's marketed as 'non-brewed condiment' (yum!) I eat a lot of vinegar and different types, I've found it's beneficial for weight loss as it replaces oil-based salad dressings and sauces and saves me calories. There's nothing magic about…
  • Me too, I game a lot, not only console but board games too (way to ruin relationships with friends and family). that is my husband's fault.... though him getting fat was my fault (I can cook well). I started at ~270lb and was ~222lb this morning. I have an open diary too. I mostly play TESO, but will give anything a go,…
  • I personally find stress makes me stress-eat, then I feel bad then I sad-eat Mindful meditation sets off my anxiety, so I don't do that, I mostly set store by CBT techniques. I'd recommend these videos though, he has a whole series but I found these two really fascinating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6402QJp52M…
  • Yep, I'm aiming for a BMI of 24.9, then I'll see... I've never been a 'normal' weight so I have no idea what to expect. Every week I aim for less than maintenance and I call it a win. I imagine I will be actively losing for at least the next 18 months, probably longer.
  • I find prioritising sleep helps, the days after a bad night are much worse. CBT has helped somewhat too. A walk (for me with a podcast) also distracts. Days I don't move enough I find myself really antsy. So get moving. Candida overgrowth is bull so listen to the others. Self care is not selfish, it's taking me a long time…

  • I like the idea of being kind to yourself, and being open to new things. This week I have gone for a ParkRun and two C25K runs. This wasn't a New Years resolution but a coincidence. It was something I've been thinking about for ages, but had a hesitation (what if I'm awful, and it's too hard?), then had this realisation…
  • Wonderful @diannethegeek, I've seen so many people fail/fail to start because of some woo they've believed. I didn't start for a while because I kinda believed only 5% of diets work (ergo why bother, I'll always be fat). Then I eventually looked at the numbers via some trusted sources and the National Weight Control…
  • I use mine daily, just to look for trends and see how my week is shaping up. I eat more on weekends so it helps balance out
  • My first couple of weeks I just tracked what I ate with no restrictions, and still lost several pounds. I think I've eaten over maintenance a handful of times, but on reflection I doubt it was that uncommon when I was still gaining.
  • I put this in a group I'm in, partly because I was reading this before I was being a little reflective as I'm heading into my third year of this... I've not met my 1lb a week goal, and that is ok. I've just been reversing the winter creep pattern. I lose quite happily (albeit slowly) Jan - Sep, but come October I just…
  • Is this not it? ETA: I don't think fasting for short periods is inherently harmful unless it triggers damaging behaviours. I attempted it for a bit as 5:2 but had no success due to my preferences.
  • I bought the book, I read the book, I tried it, I was a raging nightmare.... Gave up. (Much to the relief of my family) However, it is one of the less crazy WoE that can help sustain a calorie deficit, if it suits you it should be sustainable. Some do better with 'windows' of eating daily like 16:8. Or a daily limit. I…
  • I'm sure it's still the case, but if you swear, the word got replaced with *kitten*. I think there was a move to rotate the cute animals that would replace the words but it didn't happen. Now I think people just put their own *flamingo* of choice... I'm not a hugger, but I think it was a sort of 'commiserations' lite...…
  • But what temperature you drink it at matters more.....
  • I generally go with 'that was really hurtful/inappropriate, was that your intention?' This Friday is christmas jumper day, so most people in 'fun' offices will be forced into something stupid. I'm torn between the t-rex and the pizza kitten....…
  • Honestly, I don't think I would just to make her happy. When I started losing weight (for the millionth time) I told my husband, 'This is what I'm doing, I'm doing it for me. You're welcome to do it to or not.' He's not tracked or logged but has followed what we eat and has lost almost 50 lb. However a previous attempt at…
  • I find once I start eating I don't stop eating, so the longer I can put of the first meal of the day the better. But it is very individual. that's what works for me (so far)
  • I am having fish fingers for lunch, but I think it's pollock nowerdays.... I've had it a couple of times, at a conference in a fairly posh hotel, and it was great. I still love sea bass best. With a lot of fish I think how you cook it matters enormously. However OP, if you like it, you eat it. I have perfected the eyeroll…
  • I actually quite like their leggera, it's one of the few places I will order the 'lighter' option. Mostly so I can have a cafe reale. Normally if I'm eating out I'll swap the sides for something lighter, and if that's not feasible just track it and move on. Unfortunately I can't eat sweeteners (they give me terrible…
  • That's exactly the same as me, My leafy veg (and I eat a lot of it) I will ballpark. But also if you use the recipe builder you can go back to a particularly good recipe and make it again. I make this (accidentally vegan) curry that is amazing, about 350kcal for a massive bowl, I vaguely remembered making it so went back…
  • I'll have to investigate, I do struggle with anything that comes in pairs however...
  • I tried it I couldn't hack it, wasn't sustainable for me, fell of the wagon every week. You just have to find out what works for you, then be consistent. However, bbc good food has excellent, seasonal recipes, however an experienced cook you are, and has a section on 5:2. The fish with olives became a favourite, we still…
  • Do they have that rubber stuff like hold ups do? I could never keep them up. I swear by the shorts Uniqlo have, very light, not compressing and easy to wash. I don't think I'll ever slim my way out of rubbing even when I was a teenager it was a problem.
  • Yep pretty much my response. I won't click on your link because I don't want to give them revenue. The daily mail especially the 'femail' pages is notorious for making stuff up to make women feel alternatingly good and bad about themselves. I believe body dysmorphia is a thing and can represent itself in different ways. If…
  • I have the Blaze and I do love it, that is because I wanted one device, not to have to wear a watch and a tracker. I also have the fitbit scale so wanted to remain in one ecosystem. That is why I got it. The watch faces are adaptable which are also quite nice. When I had an iphone the music controls were great, now I've…
