Focus on lifting and your diet. Instead of running 5k, walk the same distance. Walking burns more calories for the distance, doesn't trigger a fat storage response, and is easier on joints too.

You must lift weights that plus diet control will do more to drive sustainable weight loss. That is your priority until you get back in shape. By getting healthy you are doing what's best for you and your loved ones. Become the man you were meant to be.

Try to make long term lifestyle adjustments like not drinking soft drinks and walking after dinner. Small changes add up over time! Good luck

Congrats brother!! Lifting weights is a key part of long-term strategy.

She's TOXIC! It isn't just about weight loss and it will rub off on you. Fade her from your life. It is easy to make new friends, just get out there at church, hobbies, volunteer, etc etc. Also you are too young to retire, you sound like you are 90 and in a nursing home clinging to your last friend. You are YOUNG. Consider…

Also consider that the current boss could be manipulating her. It depends on the man, and the relative difference in looks/age, but men in authority can emotionally manipulate a "work wife" to work irrationally hard and stay irrationally loyal.

If she's not taking the best opportunity for her career because she "would just miss him so much", there's already a serious problem. She should do what's right to put her career and her marriage in the best situation for success.

Take the new job. You're married and already too emotionally attached to your boss. It's time to go, and be happy you've got a great new offer.

MamaBirdBoss is correct, this is about her not you. When you succeed in losing weight it challenges her own comfort about why she's still fat. Misery loves company! She's toxic and cut her out of your life.

I'd like to join, thanks!

I'm facing the same challenge...everything I've read is that overall diet and activity is the way to go, that you can't really target abs/handles with exercises or foods. You just have to get down to at least 15% body fat (for men). Caloric deficit just means you need to burn more calories than you eat every day. 1,800…

I'm sorry for the tough news. Talk to your doctor-- there's emerging evidence that calorie restriction during chemo is really beneficial. See https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01802346 So try seeing your diet as part of the way you are fighting the cancer. I'm also a big stress eater and I've recently had some luck…

Great job! Keep lifting weights, it will help you maintain the loss.
-
That's great, and I'm glad you're starting today instead of Monday! Just take it one day at a time!
-
That is awesome! Be sure to consolidate that success by lifting weights at least a couple times a week. Congrats!

Abs are made in the kitchen, crunches are a waste of time compared to overall fitness/core exercises and diet diet diet.

Hi don't get discouraged, 4 lbs is a good start. It is good you are focused on controlling the diet. It is possible that you are converting fat to muscle from the exercise program-- so you might be making improvements that don't show up on the scale (but will evenutally!). Try to get up to 10,000 fitbit steps-- basically…
