I'm following this. Today is day 1 of week 2 for me. If nothing else, feel free to friend me. :)

Good luck! I loved Insanity...I had the same reaction the first week, though. I kept it up for just over 2 months, at which point I was in an accident which snapped both bones in my lower leg in half. Still can't do high impact exercises, but I have my Insanity DVD collection just in case I can ever do it again. You…

Wow, that's quite a story. Good for you for taking charge of your life and focusing on what's important. Welcome!

I have huge calves even when I'm thin. Nothing seems to make a difference. I don't do calf-specific exercises, other than stretching, but other than that I don't think about them when I work out. I do walking, hiking, running, and weightlifting...like I said, they don't get bigger, they don't get smaller. Don't even worry…

A small glass of wine in the evenings before bed actually makes me feel full and satisfied at bedtime. If I drink before a meal I DO tend to get the munchies, but as a nightcap it works well for me.

I agree 100%. I've never seen an overweight person exercising and wanted to make fun of them. I'm impressed by their motivation, nothing else. Anyone who DOES is most likely to lazy/out of shape to do it themselves, and their opinions just flat don't matter. Also, the people who see you out there every day will see your…

Same here. As tasmin21 and lemon629 mentioned, it helped a lot to loosen my laces over my (also really high) instep. The other thing I do is try to actually pick my foot up off of the pedals occasionally.

This might get me kicked off of the forums, but right about the time I got really motivated to lose a little weight, a friend posted an article about how a little bit of wine right before bed can actually help weight loss. I don't have either the article or the study handy, but it sounded good to me. I've been drinking 4…

Don't overthink or over-research this. Any physical activity burns calories and helps weight loss. I think you have to do more cardio than most humans are capable of to actually lose muscle, so, cardio away to your heart's content. On the other hand, weight lifting obviously helps build muscle and increase tone, and it…

I had the same problem (all drastic changes) when I tried to use the mobile app for entering recipes. The regular version on my desktop seems to work fine. I had to delete the recipes and start over. Pretty annoying considering how much time it takes to get it done, but I guess practice makes perfect... ;)

I just read a thread called "Is this journey easy." Go look for it. It's pretty good. Call this a splurge day and move on. Sometimes you just gotta do it. You might be surprised, too. All that sugar and bread after a long stretch of being really good can amp up your metabolism, and if you hop right back on the wagon you…

Well said. This is the crux of the matter, I think. You do what you do for you, and no one else. After 10 years of going it on my own, my hubby does work out with me, but only because we recently moved to a rural area with no gym access and I had to invest in weightlifting equipment for our home. No way would he have set…

Just got done! I'll pass you the baton on my way back in. Have a great workout!

When I started, the bar was hard. Now, 10 years later, I warm up at 95 pounds and usually finish my last (4th) set with 10 reps at 155 lbs. Still getting stronger. Incidentally, I started training my hubby a year ago...it's taken him most of that year to get stronger than me! Everyone has to start somewhere. ;)

Wow. Great post.

WHAT?! It's not listed? Sheesh. Who do we talk to about this?

I also had friends put me on really gentle horses bareback while I was still non-weight bearing. No feet in the stirrups=following doctors orders. ;-)

2.5 years ago I was hit by a car as a pedestrian and basically shattered my right tibia and fibula. I still have a nonunion of the fibula and a poor union of the tibia, which makes high impact exercises really difficult. Anyway, at the time I was already a gym rat, so it didn't take long for me to get back to the gym and…

ROTFLMAO. True that!

We all have to start somewhere. If your muscles feel like jello for the rest of the day, you did it right. So what if it was only 10kg? You'll get stronger! Don't forget you-tube videos...I googled an exercise someone mentioned on this forum a couple days ago and discovered an outfit called HASfit, which has lots of free…

The books and videos are really helpful, so use them. Also, it's been my experience that the really serious lifters at most gyms (not the ex-high school jocks that run in packs and spend most of their time flexing in front of the mirror) are pretty happy to help anyone who's trying to improve themselves no matter where…

I started lifting about 10 years ago. I got pretty serious about it maybe 5 years ago. Two years ago I had the opportunity to spend some time working out with a couple of really serious competitive power lifters (guys) who taught me a lot. I lift heavy. I try to increase weight with each set, and I try to do 10 reps per…

It seems like calories burned are measured by distance rather than by speed or time. This means that if you go farther in 30 minutes by jogging partway, you'll burn more calories than if you walk for the same amount of time, but if you walk a mile it burns about the same amount as jogging a mile. I don't think it matters…

Bench press! Just because I can... ;)

This is my new favorite post.

Doctors are human, and have a lot of opinions. If you ask 10 doctors advice on one question, you'll probably get 10 different opinions. If working out makes you feel good, do it. If it hurts (bad hurt, not good hurt!) stop or back off. Sounds like your podiatrist is going to help, and I think you may need to look for…

Oh, yay! I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I've also fallen prey to that "bad day" candy...but then it becomes "boring day" candy, and then "I was up all night and I'm so tired I can't stand it day" candy, and then "good day celebration" candy...argh! I don't even have an office staff to deal with anymore, but if I don't…
