@DaisyHamilton is absolutely right. However, you can build up muscle to act as a better frame for the fat you do have. While it will not "reduce" it will look better.

Feel free to add me. I have lost about 45 lbs so far and have about another 30 to reach my "weight" goal. The great thing about the journey, you can help others along the way and other can help you stay on path too.

Weight is an illusion. Body Fat % is the key. If you are replacing a pound of fat with a pound of muscle... is that a bad thing? Take some measurement, get your weight and get an estimated body fat percentage. Every two weeks, recalculate your body fat %. I would rather see my waist line decease than see a few pounds drop…

There is nothing wrong with a meal supplement (shake, frozen entree, whatever). However, a meal supplement does not teach you what you need to know once you get to your goal. You stop using them, gain back the weight and then go to using them again. From a sales perspective it is great, a near limitless supply of returning…

Whenever you are tempted to go out to eat simply prelog your food. Then stick to your guns when you go eat. You can make better decisions beforehand than being down in the dumps for going over after. Nothing wrong with eating out and it is a great treat. That said, I would try to stay away from place that offer a lot of…

Welcome back. Sometimes a restart is just want the doctor orders. Let me start off by saying you can't out run a bad diet. You lose weight in the kitchen and build muscle in the gym. While getting back into running is great, don't think running alone is going to get you to your weight loss goals. If you are looking for a…

This is exactly what I do and costs me about 50 cal a day. Nothing to break the bank over.

I am going to echo there others, diet is the key. I suffer from gout and flare ups put any of my workout plans on hold. If I was focused on working out to lose weight I would be sunk. Truth is, you can't outrun a bad diet. I have lost about 45 lbs since April 2015. That is with 2 months of my diet on "hold" to see if the…

To the OP, "What are you prepared to do?" I think anyone who starts out on a task really needs to think about that sentence long and hard. Are you serious? Are you determined? To start with, sure you are. We all are. It is when there is resistance that your metal gets tested. Blade don't break sitting in a scabbard. They…

Non-Scale Victories, NSVs, I believe would take the place of watching the numbers on the scale drop. Set yourself some goals and the push towards achieving them. It could be something like a C25K or B210K program, increased rep/weights at the gym, getting more flexible (yoga ftw), etc. Losing the weight should not be the…

I like to research at bodybuilding.com. I have purchased from the local Vitamin Shoppe, but sometimes they can be pricy. Some of their staff was really knowledgeable and other were not. I would assume that is the case with just about any store you go into. GNC is a bit high too and there is no doubt the person behind the…

My diary is open and I like veggies, but I am an omnivore. Feel free to add me as a friend and/or check my diary out.

The easiest way to feel the lasting effects of food is pretty simple, eat foods as close to the source as possible. Tossing out processed foods in favor of "real" food will keep you feeling full longer. Calorie dense foods. Veggies. Whole grains. Etc.

I would toss BMI out the window. It may be good for 80% of the population but body fat percentage works for 100% of the population. That said, getting spot on accurate BF% is pretty hard to do unless you use calipers or water displacement. The electric current/resistance body fat calculators can be pretty accurate to a…

To the OP, how many grams of carbs per day are you getting? You could be getting Wheat/Paleo Flu, over and over again.
-
Can you go to a farmers market? If so, you can traditionally get your produce cheaper. That might help you stretch your budget a bit more.

What about Bamboo Lane Crunchy Rice Rollers @ Costco? They are like a modified rice cake, taste similar to Sugar Smacks (the cereal with the frog on the front). My eldest daughter takes one roller to school every day as a snack and she loves them. You get 6 rolls in a pack and 4 packs in a package (@ about $6 a package).

Weight it an illusion. Are you seeing any drop in body measurements? What about your body fat percentages? Fixating on weight is a sure fire way to get frustrated.

Go back to the portable basics like meats, cheese, eggs and nuts. If you have a spoon then cottage cheese or Greek yogurt could be welcome variations. As far as jerky goes, make it yourself. You don't need a fancy drying machine. Just your oven and some foil will do the trick. Get the meat you want and have the butcher…

I am currently trying to lose body fat and weight, so I eat back about 50% of my calories Monday thru Saturday. On Sunday I try to do a double workout which I turn into a refeed. I will usually end of eating back all of my calories on that day. Once I reach my initial body fat goal, 18%, I will switch up. My plan is to eat…

I concur with @puffbrat about the trainer not taking injuries into account. That said, I am not so sure about the diet. I think the "holy grail of finally seeing abs" is what has set you down the current road. Everyone has a 6/8 pack hiding under there, it is just the fat blocking it from view. The trainer putting you on a…

To echo @ashliefisch, the most important thing is going to be your diet. You can't out run a bad one. To make that happen effectively, you really NEED a digital food scale and then weigh everything you eat. I say weigh because measuring by volume can be subjective. The scale is not subjective, it is going to give you the…

You can add me. I am down 40 lbs with about another 40 lbs to go.

Right now I am doing just cardio, focusing on target heart rate and endurance. If I can keep gout flare ups at bay, I should be able to get back into the gym this summer. That said, you can't out run a bad diet so I try to eat clean (1500 cal plus eating back half my workout calories). What are you looking to do in the…

I have just started exercising, again. Trying to walk about 60 minutes (30 min, twice a day) 4 or 5 times a week. Trying to get back into the swing of being about to pound out a 5k without any problems. Gout flare ups keep wrecking my progress :disappointed:

A lifting buddy of mine swears by The King, a fried PB&B sandwich. Pan fry a banana in some butter. Then put it on a peanut butter sandwich and fry the sandwich in butter. If you are feeling froggy, add some bacon to it. Tons of protein, fat, carbs and sugar (caramelizing the banana).

Would they exist in today's numbers, heck no. However, many an abandoned farm has chickens that peck and scratch out an existence long after Farmer Brown has kicked the bucket. Seen it to many time with my own eyes to think otherwise. As long as they have trees to roost in and some place secluded to hide their nests, they…

People have been fasting for thousands of years and is a common practice across the globe. Most commonly associated with cultural or religious activies. For the mainstream American media to come our and throw down the acceptance gauntlet falls into the definition "western arrogance."

Pigs are not only known to survive in the wild... they thrive. Feral pigs are a plague upon the land. They have no natural enemies (as we killed them all off / we released them in the US to begin with), they do untold damage to crops and water infrastructure (levies and damns). I try to bag as many as I can. As an ardent…

I was not asking what "you" ate in particular (see my previous post). I did mean "they" as the group of pescetarian as a whole. Individuals pick and choose by their very nature. That said, I am a hunter. I have also been put in survival situations where one eats and can't be choosy about it. Also, my kin are from Arkansas.…
